Barbara (Levine) Siegel, 87, of Tower Lane, New Haven, devoted wife of the late Harold Siegel, died at her home on Monday, July 29, 2013. Born in Boston, MA, June 20, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Louis & Anna (Resnick) Levine. Beloved mother of state Senator Gayle (David) Slossberg of Milford and Steven (Beverly Brown) Siegel of CA. Dear sister of Roberta (Mel) Stahl of CA & the late Shirley (the late Nathan) Rotberg. Cherished grandmother of Jeremy, Alex, & Rebecca. Funeral Services were held at Sharon Memorial Park, Sharon, MA on Wednesday, July 31, 2013. DeGENNARO, MADELINE
Madeline (Ascenzia) DeGennaro, 88, of Orange, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the CT Hospice, Branford. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph L. DeGennaro. Madeline was born in New Haven on July 5, 1925; daughter of the late Giovanni and Philomena DeSimone Ascenzia; had worked at Jimmies Restaurant of Savin Rock for many years; was a member of the West Haven Italian-American Ladies Auxillary; enjoyed vacationing with her husband and friends; enjoyed bingo, trips to the casino and was a avid New York Yankees fan. Mother of Frank (Pattee Villano) DeGennaro, Phyllis Testa, Gina (Michael) Keyes with whom she had resided. Grandmother of Nicole (Mario) Coppola, Joseph Testa, Ashley and Michael Keyes. The family would also like to thank the Visiting Nurses Association of Orange, especially Trish and Laura, for their many years of excellent care. A special “Thank You” to the CT Hospice of Branford for their wonderful care and compassion.
MASCAGNA, DOMINIC R.
Dominic R. Mascagna, age 89, beloved husband of Rose Lallone Mascagna and longtime resident of Orange, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 12, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Union City, NJ on August 6, 1923, he was the son of the late Rocco and Filomena Verdicchio Mascagna. Dominic served with pride and honor in the US Army, 13th Airborne Division during WWII. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Manhattan College, NY went on to obtain his master’s degree from Columbia University, continued with post graduate classes at Fairfield University and lastly received his Doctorate degree in education from Fordham University. He spent many years teaching biology at North Haven High School and then became the associate principal until his retirement in 1984. He continued to work at Takeo Post University as an adjunct professor until he was 80 years old. During his career he was a Nominee for the biology teacher of the year by the National Association of Biology Teachers. In addition to his wife, Rose of 61 years Dominic is survived by his loving children Donna DeSousa and her husband Dave of NY, Michael Mascagna of Orange Paula Murphy and her husband Don of Bethany and Marc Mascagna and Angeline Franco of West Haven; four grandchildren Daniel and Diana DeSousa and Colin and Ryan Murphy. He was predeceased by his brother Nicholas Mascagna.
LENDER, DR. MICHAEL
Dr. Michael Lender, 68, of Orange, CT, devoted husband of Marilyn (Mandel) Lender, died at his home on Wednesday, July 10, 2013. Born in New Haven, August 29, 1944, he was the son of Lena S. Lender of Boca Raton, FL & the late Samuel A. Lender. Beloved father of Michele (Seth) Shedarowich of New Haven, Marla Lender (Karen Hall) of De Witt, NY, Meredeth (Paul) Indorf of Orange & Matthew Lender of Stamford. Dear brother of Marcy (James) LeBlanc of East Boston, MA. Cherished grandfather of Samuel, Solomon & Liam Shedarowich, Monae Lender, Dylan & Austin Indorf.
