Big Y Foods, Inc. has announced plans to open a World Class Market at 150 Boston Post Road in Milford. The freestanding supermarket will be approximately 55,000 square feet.
Big Y maintains a strong presence in Connecticut’s New Haven County, as this will be the chain’s tenth World Class Market there. The company currently operates stores in Ansonia, Branford, Cheshire, Guilford, Meriden, Naugatuck, North Haven and North Branford, with plans for another store to open in Derby in 2019.
The proposed Milford store will provide several opportunities for local contractors during the construction process. More than 130 full-time and part-time positions are planned. The store will feature locally sourced fruits and vegetables, fresh sushi, an extensive gluten-free assortment and organic items along with other locally produced offerings.

The store will have prepared meals, including freshly made pizzas and rotisserie chicken dinners, stir fry, fresh cooked-to-order fish and chips, a broad selection of specialty and local foods including a wide array of organic and gluten-free, a full-service butcher shop, seafood direct from New England piers. It will also have an extensive produce department that will offer over 500 different items, including organics as well as fruits and vegetables from local farms and orchards.
The property is owned by Metro Star Properties LLC of Milford.
