Congregation Or Shalom Offering Holocaust Remembrance Candles

The Congregation Or Shalom Men’s Club is making Holocaust Remembrance Yellow Candles available to the public. The Yellow Candle is a special memorial candle that is lit on Yom HaShoah, which begins on the evening of Wednesday, April 11.

Almost two generations have passed since the Allied Armies liberated the Nazi concentration camps in 1945, which ended the greatest mass slaughter in history. Entire families were extinguished and there was no one to say memorial prayers for them. The Yellow Candle Program was developed so that these millions do not suffer a double loss – the loss of their lives and the loss of their memory.

The lighting of the Yellow Candle on April 11 will also remind all who see it that the Holocaust did happen and that it will never be forgotten.

Yellow candles are available by visiting the Or Shalom office between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays, by contacting the Yellow Candle Chair Mitch Goldblatt at mitchgoldblatt@aol.com, or by calling 203-795-4337.

While the candle is free, voluntary contributions help support Or Shalom’s Annual Kristallnacht Program, the Jewish Community Center of Greater New Haven’s Yom HaShoah program, New Haven’s Holocaust Memorial, and other meaningful remembrance programs.
