Dorothy Villinger Winkle, 86, of Orange, beloved wife of 66 years to Christian F. Winkle III, passed away on September 21, 2013, at home surrounded by her family.{{more}} Loving mother of Christian F. Winkle IV of San Diego, Craig J. (Bethanne) Winkle and Laurie (Robert M. Grasson) Winkle, all of Orange. Grandmother of Craig J. Winkle, Jr. and Katherine D. Winkle. Sister Jean Mitchell of Orange and the late Frederick Villinger. Sister in law of Harriet Villinger of Wallingford. Dorothy was born in Derby on November 28, 1926, daughter of the late Adolph and Alice Johnson Villinger. Dorothy grew up on Sentinel Hill was a graduate of Derby High School and Stone Business College. She was active in her family’s business in operations and as an officer of the companies. Dorothy was athletic and was an avid golfer and badminton and tennis player, playing for many years as a member of the Badminton Club of New Haven. She was a long time member of the Garden Club of Orange, winning numerous blue ribbons for her well-tended flowers and arrangements. As a lifelong member of Orange Congregational Church she helped found the first Nursery School (pre-school) in Orange, located at the church. Dorothy was a willing and energetic political volunteer, fundraising, campaigning and getting out the vote for decades. She was a very generous and caring person, always offering help to the sick and bereaved. Her death is a great loss to her family, the community and her many, many friends. She was always willing to offer compassion, sympathy and a hand to those in need. Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Service on October 26, 2013 in the Orange Congregational Church on the Green in Orange at 11:30 a.m. There will be no calling hours.
