The Elm City Girls’ Choir will hold its annual Holiday Classics Concert on Friday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Michael’s Church in New Haven, following a performance in the Historic Wooster Square Association’s Tree Lighting Holiday Concert earlier that evening. The repertoire will include traditional carols along with contemporary holiday favorites.
The nationally-renowned choir is New England’s premier girls’ choral ensemble, and its members represent over 250 schools and 50 towns throughout Connecticut. Three of the members are from Milford and Orange: Kruttika Gopal and Laura Wertalik live in Milford, and Dorothy Parniawski lives in Orange.
Highlights of the past 25 years include appearances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Walt Disney World, concert tours to 16 states and five foreign countries, a CD recording with the Yale Whiffenpoofs and a performance with Diana Ross at the finals of the US Open tennis tournament. The choir has collaborated with ensembles including the New York Virtuoso Singers, Yale Schola Cantorum, Yale Glee Club and Camerata, Trinity Choir of Men and Boys, American Boychoir, CONCORA, New York City Ballet, Boston Philharmonic, New Haven Symphony and Moscow State Orchestra.
The ECGC is the flagship ensemble of the United Girls’ Choir network, a program that offers musical training and performance opportunities to over 550 talented singers, ages 6-18, in 32 local choirs throughout Connecticut.
