In some regards, this is a return to Orange for Nast. When Dr. John Brady retired as superintendent for Amity, Nast was hired as an interim.

The board began the process of finding an interim superintendent on Dec. 1 and interviewed three candidates on Dec. 8 and 9 before deciding to offer Nast the position. He took over for McMullin officially on Jan. 5.

Nast’s career took him through the ranks of science teacher to principal to superintendent in Stamford. He has worked as an educational consultant throughout New England and is an adjunct professor in the University of Connecticut’s Administrative Preparation Program.

Nast is expected to work at least three days a week through the rest of the school year while the board begins a formal search for a permanent replacement.
