State Reps. Charles Ferraro (R-117) and Kathy Kennedy (R-119) hosted a post-session cookout in Orange on June 28 to discuss the recently-concluded 2022 legislative session and major legislation signed into law by Gov. Ned Lamont.
Thirty Orange residents joined the state lawmakers under the pavilion at High Plains Community Center and fielded them with questions and concerns regarding state issues, as Ferraro prepared hot dogs on the grill for attendees.
Residents focused their questions on issues of affordability and tax relief, public safety and juvenile crime and ballot access.
The lawmakers detailed state Republicans’ proposal for tax relief – a $1.2 billion relief package aimed at families struggling to keep up with inflation – that was voted down along party lines in the 2022 legislative session.
“It was truly great to join such passionate residents for this positive and engaging conversation about state issues. They came with great questions and were especially concerned with the cost of living in Connecticut and are looking for relief,” Ferraro said. “I also learned never to under-estimate the power of a good hot dog.”
“Nothing is better than enjoying this great summer weather while participating in open discourse with spirited community members of Milford and Orange,” Kennedy said. “Between their concerns of soaring inflation and discussing how to develop a more affordable Connecticut, the evening was packed with talks of common district issues accompanied by a one-of-a-kind Hummel’s hotdog.”
The two legislators are among those advocating for a special session this summer to vote on additional tax breaks in addition to the $600 million in tax relief passed by the legislature this session.
