The Milford Homeless Outreach Group will be hosting an educational community event called “Faces of Homelessness” on Wednesday, Aug. 21 at the Milford Public Library.
All are welcome to attend the event to learn about the causes and possible solutions to homelessness in Milford and ways to get involved. The event includes speakers, a panel discussion, a question and answer segment, plus personal stories from those who’ve experienced homelessness.
According to Jennifer Paradis, executive director of the Beth-El Center shelter and soup kitchen, “The barriers and solutions for those men, women, veterans and families experiencing homelessness in our community are diverse, complex and ever-changing. This event is a wonderful opportunity to open a community dialogue, find common understanding and explore new ways to take on these critical needs as a community.”
The Milford Homeless Outreach Group is Milford’s homeless task force, focused on leveraging the skills and resources of its partners to wrap supports and intervention tools around each unsheltered individual in the community, one by one. Through coordinated outreach and engagement efforts, jail diversion, medical intervention for high emergency room utilizers and flexible dollars to support diversion techniques, the group develops and implements public education campaigns and works to close the gaps in how systems speak to one another.
The event runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and is open to the public. It’s sponsored by the Beth-El Center, Milford Health Department and the Milford Public Library. The library is located at 57 New Haven Ave.
