Milford resident and Milford-Orange Times columnist Jennifer Ju is presenting an evening of six original plays on Nov. 13 at the Strand Theater in Seymour.
The group of plays, dubbed “Discovery,” encompass four original works by Ju, including “The Wall,” a comedy performed in radio play format in which folks go to huge lengths to stay safe; “Brave New World,” in which a trip to the smoldering remains of the American Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford forces an estranged mother and daughter to examine love and loss; “Truth or Dare,” a comedy in which two strangers start to peel away each other’s carefully curated layers and discover the truth that lies beneath; and “Happier Days,” in which a former prom queen turned flailing author tries to dig her way out of her predicament, literally and figuratively, until a chance encounter makes her pause.
The production also includes “The Portia Cruiser” by Rachel H. Babcock, in which a daughter learns to release her anger, feel the wind and reconnect with her distant father while on a small sailboat, and “When Tomorrow Comes” by Beatriz Allen, wherein two couples with special needs young adult children spend an afternoon making difficult life choices for their children and themselves (a portion of this play will be performed).
Robert Watts of Milford is one of the directors, along with Rachel H. Babcock of Branford, Linda Gilmore of Norwalk and Rich Mancini of Stratford.
Milford residents featured in the show include Ju, TJ Chila, Ju and Richard Warren. It also features Gregg Allen, Julia Allen and Tom Rushen, all of Stratford; Rachel H. Babcock of Branford, Betzabeth Castro of Bridgeport; Dave Sheehan of West Haven; Linda Gilmore and Sam Mink, both of Norwalk; and Carolyn Savoia of Ridgefield.
The show begins at 7 p.m. Admission is free. Due to COVID restrictions, masks must be worn and proof of vaccination is required. The Strand is located at 165 Main St.
