Milford Police: Threats To Jonathan Law Not Credible

The Milford police department released a statement Wednesday saying that it will increase its presence at Jonathan Law High School for the rest of the week, despite finding that social media rumors of threats to students and staff at the school are not credible.

“Members of the Jonathan Law High School administration, Milford Police Department’s Juvenile and Computer Crime Divisions and the Milford Public Schools have been collectively working together to address these concerns,” the statement said.

“After countless hours of investigation, all claims have been disproved and found to be false. In other words, not a single claim has been substantiated. It has been determined that the information shared on social media was not based on fact.”

The statement said police were increasing their presence at the school to ease discomfort that students, parents and staff might still feel.

Schools have been on high alert since the Feb. 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, in which 17 people died and 14 were wounded. Threats and rumors of threats to schools are not unusual after mass shootings.

The department urged residents to refrain from sharing any false information through texts or social media.
