Milford Public Schools will be closing schools beginning Monday, March 16 in response to the pandemic COVID-19 outbreak in Connecticut. Students should stay home in order to reduce contact among children and limit the spread of this virus. Additionally, Milford Health Department officials are encouraging residents to take action to avoid gatherings of large groups of people, particularly in settings where germs can easily be spread.
“We know this is an anxious time for our community. Out of an abundance of caution, we are taking these measures to try to reduce community transmission of this virus and protect the health and welfare of Milford residents,” said Milford Mayor Ben Blake. “We will continue to keep the community updated with any important information as this situation is rapidly evolving.”
In addition to the closure of the schools, the city will also be closing other facilities and canceling other events, including the following:
– The Milford Senior Center will be closed. The Senior Center will provide information regarding limited services that may be available, including food pantry and other meal services.
– Milford recreation programs and city-sponsored sporting events are cancelled.
– Milford Public Library programs, meetings and events are cancelled or postponed. Check the Milford Public Library website for updates.
The city will reevaluate these measures on a regular basis to determine when routine services can safely resume.
