Carl Amundsen
Carl Amundsen, 74, of Milford, beloved husband of the late Sigrid Amundsen of nearly 50 years, passed away on August 13, 2023. Born in Port Chester, NY. He was the son of the late Charles and Eleanor Amundsen. He attended St Mary’s in Greenwich and later trade school. He was a member of IBEW Local 3 and worked as an Electrician for nearly 30 years.
After retiring, he kept busy by taking care of his granddaughter, which he enjoyed so much. He would catch up with friends at the Ponus Yacht club in Stamford. For many years met up with friends at McDonalds for breakfast. He started golfing and really enjoyed playing a round at the Orchards in Milford. Carl and Siggy enjoyed gardening and had a plot at the Milford Community Gardens for 16 years. They really enjoyed taking cruises and he always made sure to get his fill of lobster tails. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed watching NY sports teams and golf.
Carl was a social guy who really enjoyed being around his family and many friends.
Survivors include his daughter Lori and her husband Ed; granddaughter, Megan; mother in law, Hanny; brother in law, Rainer; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He is predeceased by his sister Charlene and brother Ronnie.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, August 18, 2023 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Saint Mary Church (Precious Blood Parish), 70 Gulf St., Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:30 a.m. that morning at the church. Interment will follow at Saint Mary Cemetery, Buckingham Ave., Milford.
Rafael Barrios
Rafael Barrios, 91, of Milford, Connecticut, beloved husband of the late Josefina “Fifi” (Gonzales) Barrios, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 23, 2023. Born on March 11, 1932, in Havana Cuba, he was the son of the late Samuel & Dolores “Lola” (Tenreiro) Barrios.
Rafael is a veteran of the Korean War where earned several medals including a Purple Heart. He was a Quality Control Inspector at the American Chain and Cable Company “ACCO” in Bridgeport, Connecticut where he was employed until he retired. He had a love for all animals and enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels. He loved music, dancing, coloring, was an avid reader, and had a passion for baseball, especially for the New York Mets.
Rafael is survived by his loving children, Robert (Janice) Barrios and Kathy (Jayson) Barrios-Yevich. Rafael is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Stephanie and Samuel. He is predeceased by his brother Samuel Barrios and his aunt, Juana “Tia” Gomez.

Matthew P. Bauby
Matthew P. Bauby, 48, of Milford passed away on July 16, 2023. Born on March 11, 1975 in Bridgeport, CT, he was the son of John P. and Deborah (Kochiss) Bauby.
A graduate of Masuk High School, Matt took courses at Housatonic Community College. Matt was an avid traveler who drove cross country and visited Europe, Amsterdam, Spain, and Mexico. One favorite destination was Las Vegas, where he enjoyed playing roulette.
Matthew worked in the building trades where he did electrical and plumbing. He was a health enthusiast and spent many happy hours in the gym and walking the beach near his house.
Matt enjoyed all kinds of music and loved to dance. He loved people and life. All of his friends said he had a flare for fashion, and his style was unique. He was a whiz at electronics and often helped others fix their computers. Matt loved animals and helped rescue many of his pets. His favorite rescue was an English Bulldog named Bridie.
He enjoyed canoeing and went white water rafting in Maine and North Carolina. Matt enjoyed playing youth soccer in the league his parents started at Wooster Jr. High in Straford CT. Matt loved going to dinner with friends and family and also excelled at cooking at home, often making grilled steak or his highly requested baked ziti for special occasions.
Matt was a generous man, and was a part of the bone marrow doner list for 15 years with the American Red Cross.
Matt will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends.
In addition to his loving parents, Matt is survived by his brother, J. Eric Bauby of Easton CT; aunts and uncles, Johanna (Michael) Shafer of New York, Ken Kochiss of Stratford CT, William Kochiss of Stratford CT, Robert (Fanny) Kochiss of Fairfield CT, and Pamela Werth of Scottsdale AZ; and his many cousins. Matthew was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Astrid and Leo Bauby of Straford CT, and maternal grandparents, Dorothy and Robert Kochiss of Bridgeport CT.

Myrna Chelefou
Myrna Chelefou, 94, passed away on August 7, 2023. Born on January 19, 1929 in Springfield, MA, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret Chelefou.
Myrna leaves behind her daughter, Margaret Kimmer; son, Robert Kimmer; grandchildren, Jennifer Buturla, John Kimmer, and Christopher Kimmer; and great grandchildren, Joshua Vazquez, Lucas Vazquez, and Bryan Noel. She was predeceased by two of her grandchildren.

John R. Costa
John Rusinko Costa, beloved brother of Johanna Costa Asher, died Saturday, August 12 at his home in New Haven. He was 64. The cause of death was accidental.
Mr. Costa was born March 4, 1959 in Urbana-Champaign, Ill. the son Michael and Anna Costa. He grew up in Poughkeepsie, NY where he attended the Spackenkill public schools. Mr. Costa excelled in all subjects, and particularly loved mathematics and science. He was an excellent debater and loved astronomy, chess, reading, and photography. He played the trumpet in the school band.
Despite struggling with what would become life-long mental illness, Mr. Costa graduated fifth in his class, was a National Merit Finalist, and received the Thomas J. Watson Scholarship to the engineering college at Cornell University. He loved learning, valued education and eventually completed his bachelors degree in physics from Southern Connecticut University in 2013.
Mr. Costa lived in New Haven, Conn. for most of his adult life and spent the last eight years as a beloved resident of The Parents Foundation where he loved participating in many activities. Every Christmas, he handed out gifts as the house Santa Claus. When staff members would leave for the day, he would urge them to “drive home safely.”
Mr. Costa loved his family. He especially enjoyed twice weekly calls with his sister and visits with his sister, his nieces, nephews and brother-in-law over chocolate chocolate chip ice cream from Ashley’s.
Mr. Costa is survived by: sister Johanna Costa Asher (Joey Asher), of Cold Spring, NY.; nephew Benjamin Asher (Meredith Callan) of San Francisco; nephew, Elliott Asher of Boulder, Co.; niece Annie Asher, of New York City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Parents Foundation.
Stephen Ralph Deer III
Stephen R. Deer III of West Haven CT passed away unexpectedly July 15, 2023.
Born March 3, 1967 to the late Jo-Ann (Rosiello) and Stephen R. Deer Jr. formerly of Milford.
Steve was a one of a kind, gentle giant. He worked as a tow truck driver for Center Towing and Wrecking for many years.
You would always see him and his rig at the end of the Fire Muster parade or at many of the Touch a Truck events. Steve loved cars, especially drag racing. Steve used to drag race his beloved Ford Mustang Cobra.
Steve was loved by all, he was an outgoing funny guy with a big heart.

Steve leaves behind his sister Michele and her husband Jeff Lee, of Palmetto, FL, his brother Mark and his wife Pattie Deer, of Milford, CT, his nephews who he cherished as if they were his own, Travis, Ethan and Spencer Deer, all of Milford, CT, as well as his aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends who will all miss him dearly.

Anthony Joseph Dirsa
Anthony Joseph Dirsa, 90, of Orange, beloved husband of 65 years to Caroline Dirsa, passed away on August 7, 2023. Born on May 8, 1933 in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late Walter and Bessie Dirsa.
Anthony proudly served in the U.S. National Guard for 12 years. He had a passion for building; turning his back porch into a beautiful glass room. Anthony loved spending time at the home he built in Vermont.
Along with his wife, Anthony is also survived by his sons, Paul Dirsa and Mark (Elizabeth) Dirsa; grandchildren, Zachary and Isabelle Dirsa; sisters, Lillian and Virginia; and extended family and friends.

Carmella Theresa Dziczkowski
Carmella Theresa Dziczkowski, 88, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2023 at Carriage Green Assisted Living in Milford, CT. Carmella was born on July 20, 1935 in Westport, CT to the late Gabriele and Louise Biafore. Beloved wife of the late Walter Dziczkowski Jr.
Carmella worked for many years for the Milford Citizen and New Haven Register Newspapers in the circulation department. As an avid reader, she also spent her free time volunteering in the library for Meadowside School and was recognized for her efforts with an award named after her that honored citizenship and volunteer work within the school.
Carmella was known for her impeccable baking, family favorites including: pumpkin bread and her famous sour cream cookies. She loved watching sports of all kinds and never missed one of her grandchildren’s baseball games. She enjoyed travelling, going to the casino, and spending time with her sister Gloria who was her lifelong best friend. She was kind, independent and considerate, but above all she was a devoted mother and grandmother.
Carmella is survived by her two beloved sons: Anthony Dziczkowski and his wife Natalie Dziczkowski, and Michael Dziczkowski and his wife Jodi Dziczkowski. Four grandchildren: Michael Dziczkowski Jr., Carsan Dziczkowski, Ethan Dziczkowski and his wife Jessie, and Jacob Dziczkowski. Two great grandchildren: August and Roane. She is also survived by sister Gloria Simone, as well as three nephews: Joseph Simone and his wife Tammy, Anthony Biafore and his wife Becky, and Paul Biafore and his wife Susan. She is predeceased by her brother Gabriel Biafore and his wife Kathy.

Raymond Joseph Filakosky
It is with profound sadness to announce that on Friday, June 16th, 2023, Raymond Joseph Filakosky, age 75 of New Milford, and previously of Monroe, passed away from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). After several years of illness, Ray was diagnosed with ALS in the Fall of 2022. He courageously gave his best fight until his body could no longer endure it.
He was born on January 11, 1948, and was the son of the late Stephen and Margaret (Hanko) Filakosky. Ray grew up in Milford and graduated from Milford Academy and attended St. Anselm College. He began his lifelong banking profession at Connecticut National Bank in Bridgeport, before moving to careers at Litton Industries Credit Corp. and U.S Concord. He spent most of his career at Citigroup where he was a Sr. VP/Sr. Credit Officer. Ray was an easygoing guy with a love of dogs, the beach, the NY Yankees, and Pittsburgh Steelers teams. He enjoyed many vacations to warm, sunny destinations including CA, FL, the Caribbean and Hawaiian Islands. In his leisure time he regularly played golf with the men’s league at Grassy Hill CC. During his retirement, Ray worked at High Watch in Kent and was a longtime, grateful friend of Bill W.
Ray is survived by his sister Stephanie Pratt of Avon, many cousins, beloved friends and several dear in laws and his ex-wife who always remained close. He will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched. Special thanks to the residents at the Heritage Inn who were always by Ray’s side to help him with care through his illness.

Linda Filanowski
Linda Filanowski grew up in Milford and was a graduate of Jonathan Law High School. In her early years, Linda was a secretary and worked for US Motors. After raising her son, Linda returned to work as a receptionist and went to school to become a CNA. She enjoyed helping and caring for all of her patients. Linda mostly loved being with her family. She would look forward to every Sunday dinner and holiday. Linda married her high school sweetheart and never looked back. Her pride and joy were her three granddaughters; Rylie, Reese, and Rachel. Grandma loved taking them swimming or back and forth to school. Linda was soon deemed “Grandma’s Bus” and put over 20,000 miles on her Jeep, carting her girls wherever they wanted to go. Linda lived life with a positive attitude and smile on her face, no matter what came her way. She passed with her family by her side and a heart full of love.

Benedict Anthony Fraccola IV
Benedict Anthony Fraccola IV passed away on August 13, 2023 at Milford Hospital while surrounded by his loving family. Benedict was born on August 20, 1998 in New Haven, CT to Linda Candella and the late Benedict Anthony Fraccola III.
Benedict graduated from Foran High School. He was known to everyone as a living encyclopedia when it came to video games, movies and cartoons. He could beat any game he played, had an amazing knowledge of storylines, and loved to share his passion with friends and family. He had a smile that could make anyone’s heart melt, and a witty humor to go along with it. Benedict had a deep appreciation for animals and the outdoors. He loved showering his pets with affection. He also loved spending time with his family on trips to many zoos, aquariums and other adventures. He always had a love for dinosaurs especially T Rex, Godzilla, Pokemon, Spyro, Super Mario and so many more. His infectious laugh and love for life will carry on in the memories of all those who loved him.
Benedict is survived by his loving and devoted mother, Linda Candella, loving stepfather James Green and amazing loving sister Brianna Marie Fraccola. His Loving Maternal Grandmother Sinde O’Donnell and loving maternal Grandfather Rocco Candella. Aunt Donna Fitzgerald, uncle Dave Fitzgerald, uncle Joseph Candella. Brian P. Hansen
Brian P. Hansen, 63, of Orange, beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on July 28, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 21, 1960 in New Haven, he was the son of the late Woodrow W. and Betty Jo Hansen.
Brian was the epitome of strength demonstrated by his customer centric work ethic, equaled only by his yearlong cancer fight. He took over his father’s roofing business as the third generation at a young age and truly loved working with his hands, as close to the sun as he could be. Always there to help a neighbor or a friend, Brian was quick to plow a driveway or shovel a walkway at 4 a.m. in the middle of a blizzard.
Brian thrived as a “girl dad” and was beyond proud of his three daughters. He was a fierce protector. He cherished every moment spent with them, as well as his granddaughters. One of his favorite activities with his girls was cruising to car shows in his beloved 1963 Cadillac. He would often be seen driving with one of his dogs beside him in his Ford pickup around Orange, the town he loved so dearly.
Brian is survived by his children, Colleen (Matt Hardiman), Aubrey, and Jaime Hansen (Chris Boardman); two cherished grandchildren Dylan and Zoe; siblings, Glenn, Gary, Craig, and Mark Hansen. Brian is also survived by his former wife, Eileen Hansen and extended family and many friends. He was predeceased by his brother, David Hansen.

Joan P. Hart
Joan P. Hart, age 65, of Wallingford, entered peaceful rest on July 16, 2023 at Mid-State Medical Center in Meriden. She was born on January 17, 1958 in Milford and was the daughter of the late William D. Hart, Sr. and Winifred (Gray) Hart. She grew up in Milford where she attended Milford Public Schools. Joan participated in the Special Olympics earning multiple medals over the years. Joan spent most of her life in Milford where she enjoyed her community and made many friends and acquaintances along the way. She worked at The Kennedy Center earning herself an award as the Top Supported Employee of Year. Joan moved to Wallingford in 2009 where she met her RMS family. It was here that she truly blossomed into the strong, outgoing, independent woman that everyone loved so much. While living at The Towers she worked at Applicare where she was awarded Employee of the Year. Joan was so happy to have recently retired. She brought so much love and joy to her friends here. Joan’s family will never forget the devoted team at RMS, Kelly, Mike, Jay, Jahajah, Sidney, Teddy, Vincent, Latara, Sarai, Karen, Tameka, DellAnn, and friends Ben, Marie, Patrick, Craig, Ernie, Danny, Chris, Lindsey & Maxine. Pets have always been a great joy for Joan. She leaves behind her 4 cockatiels Bella, Midnight, Sammy and Mango, two of which she raised from birth. Joan enjoyed spending time with family at parties and on vacations. She loved all of her nieces/nephews and their children. Joan liked to fill up her calendar with dates to spend time with her family. A lover of classic rock music, she listened to The Beatles, Queen, Billy Joel as well as many other bands and attended many tribute band concerts over the years. She was always the star of the show at family events keeping everyone laughing and loving her every minute. She loved to shop and go to tag sales and flea markets. Joan was a master at doing puzzles and could tackle the largest of puzzles with ease.
Our family would like to recognize and thank all of our friends who have embraced and loved Joan over the years. She loved each and every one of you and was blessed to have known you. Roberta Jean Sloatman Hurlburt
Roberta Jean Sloatman Hurlburt, 94, formerly of Orange, passed away peacefully at home, on July 18th, 2023.
Roberta was born on April 12, 1929, in Brooklyn, New York, the middle of three children of David and Esther (Hughes) Sloatman. Being the daughter of a Methodist minister, Roberta and her family moved to a new town on Long Island or in Connecticut nearly every two years while she was young. She attended Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree, and received her Master’s degree in Botany from Indiana University. Shortly thereafter she began employment at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in the Children’s Garden. Teaching children about gardening helped her realize that her true calling was in education. Because of this she enrolled at Columbia University Teachers College, and then began a career in education that lasted for decades. Her first and only full time teaching job was at Spring Glen School in Hamden, Connecticut, teaching second grade.
Roberta was married to Thomas L. Hurlburt in 1961, and together they shared 62 years of marriage. They lived in Orange while raising their family, and moved to Windsor, Vermont for their retirement years. Although Roberta stopped teaching full time when their first child, Cindy, was born, she continued to be an educator for the rest of her life, substitute teaching in the Orange elementary schools for nearly 30 years. Her love of children and teaching continued even after she finished substituting, as she delighted in sharing her interest in nature with countless children over the years.
Roberta was an active member of the Orange Arts and Crafts Guild. She was an accomplished amateur artist, and especially enjoyed painting little birds to sell at craft fairs. She was a faithful member of the Orange Congregational Church, where she sang in the choir for many years.
Roberta will be remembered most for her youthful spirit and her sweet, sunshiny smile, which made everyone feel loved and appreciated. She had great pride and love for her immediate and extended family.
Roberta is survived by her husband, Thomas Hurlburt of Windsor, Vermont; children Cynthia Hurlburt Hale (David) of Hartland, Vermont, Jeffrey Hurlburt of Plymouth, Vermont, and Russell Hurlburt (Abigail) of Plymouth; grandchildren, Cal and Silvia Hale; and her siblings, Charles Sloatman, of South Portland, Maine, and Esther (Sloatman) Barto, of Clinton, Connecticut, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 7 at 2:00pm at the First Congregational Church of Hartland, Vermont (10 Station Road). Roberta’s ashes will be buried in the Memorial Garden of the Orange Congregational Church where a committal service will be held in autumn 2023.
Memorial contributions may be made to either of the churches Roberta attended, or to the Vermont Institute of Natural Science, in Quechee, VT.

Jeffrey P. Kent
Jeffrey was born in New York City and was loved dearly by his parents, Paul and Ruth Kent. He was a proud graduate of Avon Old Farms School and went on to earn a Business Degree from The University of Ohio. He was an accountant by profession, but built a lasting legacy through his passion for real estate. Beyond his professional life, Jeff enjoyed coin collecting, a home-cooked meal and action movies. Jeff will be remembered for his warm smile, lively personality and love for laughter. To those who knew him well, he was a kind and generous man with a passion for learning and attending CATO and Federalist Society events, as well as his many contributions to a range of charitable organizations, such as The Preservation Society of Newport County.
Jeffrey is survived by his former wife, Sandra, their loving daughter, Sarah, and his cherished grandson, Connor.

Johanna K. Kurbus, 95, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Armin J. Kurbus, passed away on August 14, 2023. Born on August 1, 1928 in Austria, she was one of 11 children of the late Johann and Maria (Mente) Meislitzer. She was known as “Oma” to everyone.
Johanna is survived by her children, Silvana (Bernhard) Lora and Melita (Jeff) Allsop; grandchildren, Brittany (Mark) Hinckley and Michael (Justin) Allsop; great grandchildren, Trenton, Raelynn, and Eloise Hinckley; siblings, Margaretha, Edeltraud, Alfred, Ottillie, and Annelies; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Anthony J. LaLuna Sr.
Anthony J. LaLuna Sr. of Orange, CT, passed peacefully into the Lord’s care surrounded by family on August 8, 2023 at The Connecticut Hospice in Branford. Having fought cancer for over ten years, the disease finally overcame him.
Tony was born and raised in Bridgeport and grew up visiting and helping on his grandparent’s family farm in Easton. Through the years, he developed a deep passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed riding horses, fishing, and hunting. After meeting the love of his life in the summer of 1965 at 15 years old and marrying in 1967, Tony moved his family to Milford and then to Orange; where he could ride his prized horse, Sheik, in many barrel racing competitions. As well as enjoy his property with his dogs over the years. Tony was a backyard enthusiast, snowmobile lover, and ATV rider; he owned many toys, tractors, and every tool he ever needed. He also collected many classic cars. He enjoyed going to car shows and cruises. Tony would have his grandchildren join him and drive some cars to the shows. He also had a passion for Harley Davidsons. He owned many styles and enjoyed many rides all over New England.
Tony founded and owned Connecticut Air Systems Inc. in Milford, CT. Having worked in the HVAC field since 1966, he opened CT Air in 1979. He grew the business from a small tow-behind trailer to its current 15,000 sq. ft. location with 20 employees. He had a love for the trade, a passion for business, and a desire to bring comfort in the form of heating and cooling to people’s homes. He made his name well-known in the Fairfield/New Haven counties. Tony stepped down in December of 2022, wanting to retire, and passed his life’s work, “The Company,” to his sons. Tony was a loving husband, father, brother, and “Papa” to his grandchildren. He cared for his family greatly. May his memory be eternal.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Diane Podrasky LaLuna, and their three sons, Anthony Jr (Jennifer) of North Haven, Andrew (Maria) of Milford, and Joseph of Orange. Six grandchildren, Joseph Jr, Nicole, Stephen (Sydney), Samantha (Alfred), Marissa (Christian), and Emily, as well as three great-grandchildren, Nico, Aubrey, and Christian. His siblings Raymond Sr, Kathy Lawruszko, brother-in-law Robert Tschilske, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Cora LaLuna, his sister Linda Tschilske, sister-in-law Kathy LaLuna and grandchild Joseph Riddle.
Friends and family may join for Calling Hours on Friday August 11, 2023 at the Cody-White Funeral Home (107 Broad St, Milford CT 06460) from 4 to 8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Infant Church (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH, 450 Racebrook Rd, Orange CT 06477) at 10 a.m. Entombment to follow at Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport, CT.

Jacqueline Elizabeth Mager
Jacqueline Elizabeth Mager, died peacefully after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, July 22, 2023. Born in Milford, Connecticut on February 10, 1963 she was the daughter of the late Joseph J. and Elizabeth (Davis) Mager. She is survived by her beloved son, Robert J. Sekelsky. She was a graduate of the Academy of Our Lady of Mercy, Lauralton Hall and earned an Associate Degree from Southern Connecticut State University. She worked for many years in retail sales with New England Carpets and thereafter as a client service representative with ADP. When her mother became ill, she retired from ADP and provided care which enabled Betty to live the remainder of her life in the family homestead on North Street. After her mother passed, she rejoined the work force as a cashier at Lowes in Milford.
She was a dedicated mother, homemaker and caretaker and also a vociferous reader of romance novels. She and her mother were avid gardeners spending many hours tending to the beautiful gardens that surrounded their North Street property. Her greatest attribute, however, was her amazing cooking skills. She never used cookbooks or recipe cards as most of her delectable dishes were prepared either through memory or taste. She specialized in soups and her lobster bisque was “to die for”. Her escargot was renowned throughout the Mager family and we all swear to this day that her dish beats any restaurant around. Her most favorite food was “lobster”. Ironically, she passed on the day of the Milford Rotary Lobster Bake.
Jacqueline was a beautiful person inside and out. She had a never-ending smile and was the person you could depend upon for help at the drop of a hat. The love of her life however, was her son, Robert. The two of them were inseparable and had a very special bond. She was his rock, his best friend and will be sadly missed by him.
Besides her son, Jacqueline is survived by her three brothers, Joseph J. Mager, Jr. and his wife Jacqueline, James E. Mager and his wife, Debbie and John J. Mager and his wife Diana. She also had a special relationship with each of her seven nieces and nephews, Christina, Elizabeth, Joseph, Jennifer, John, Emily and Craig and with her two aunts, Judi Mager and Dorothy Vitone. She remained friends with her former husband, Robb Sekelsky. She was predeceased by her parents and her uncles, William A. Mager and George P. Vitone.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Mary Church, 70 Gulf Street, Milford, CT 06460. Jason “Pata” William Paight
Jason was born on October 12, 1974, and grew up in Milford, Connecticut. Jason graduated from Jonathan Law High School in 1993. Jason had two children born in 1998 and 1999 and was always a very proud father. Jason also lived with his family for some time in Port Richey, Florida. He enjoyed his most recent work in the seafood distributor business.
Jason was a skilled artist and musician, with a great passion for playing the guitar. He played in various rock bands, and was famously named “Pata”. Jason loved to surround himself with plants, calling his large collection his “oasis”. Jason had an infectious laugh and a huge heart. As of recently Jason spent lots of time in the gym weightlifting and focusing on his health. He always faced life’s peaks and valleys head-on with great strength. He loved his family, his children, and his friends.
Jason Paight was generous, smart, and kind. He will be dearly missed by his family and his friends. We hope he is rocking the heavens with his dog Max.
Jason leaves behind his daughter Alicia Paight, his son Joshua Paight, his grandson Kaden Paight, his father Harvey Paight, his mother Gladys DeMeglio, stepfather Alphonse DeMeglio, siblings Shelly DeMeglio and Joshua DeMeglio, and step-siblings Krista DeMeglio and Daniel DeMeglio. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins across the country.

Richard Guy Piselli Sr.
Mr. Richard Guy “Rich” Piselli, Sr., 68, of Milford, beloved son of Guy and Mary (Cichiello) Piselli, passed away August 13, 2023 at his home in Milford surrounded by his family. Rich was born on May 10, 1955. He graduated from Jonathan Law High School.
Rich is survived by his devoted wife, Denise (Aronson) Piselli; his two daughters, Shannon and her husband Justin Fuscaldo of Fairfield, Selina and her husband Sean Filkins of Milford, and his fur daughter Bazel. Rich also was a “Pop” and left behind five precious grandchildren, Isabella, and Roman Fuscaldo and Fynnegean, Kynnslea, and Kashlynn Filkins, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, Richard Guy Piselli, Jr, and his beloved parents.

George W. Pritchard
He worked as a Foreman for American Brass for 33 years and was a faithful parishioner of The Church of the Assumption in Ansonia. George was also an avid musician. He wrote poems and songs and enjoyed singing. He played the accordion and the fiddle without formal training. He also enjoyed gardening and served for a time as an Alderman for the Fifth ward.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Susan Magyar (Thomas) of Milford, his sons Michael J. Pritchard (Ana) of Smithfield, RI and George M. Pritchard of Waterbury, his fiancée Patricia Barber of Orange with whom he resided, grandchildren Michael G. Pritchard (Laurel), Megan Tuttle (Casey), and Bridget M. Magyar, and great-grandchildren Nolan and Sloane Tuttle and Jonathan and Henry Pritchard.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday (TODAY) from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St., Ansonia. Friends and family will gather on Friday at 11:30 at the funeral home. The funeral will leave for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. at The Church of the Assumption, 61 N. Cliff St., Ansonia. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Church of the Assumption.
George Peter Rahgo
George Peter Rahgo, 84, of Milford, CT, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2023. He was born in Bridgeport, CT, the second son to the late Cornelia and William Rahgo of Stratford, CT.
George graduated from Stratford High School and continued his education at Hartford State Technical Institute, receiving an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science, specializing in tool technology. He enlisted in the Navy for two years active service aboard the Destroyer USS Fiske (DDR-842) as a Radar Operator.
After the Navy, George held draftsman and tool designer positions at US Electrical Motors, Bridgeport Brass, and Avco Lycoming. He later became Design Consultant and Tool Designer at Perkin Elmer, developing their medical instruments. Later, at Pitney Bowes, he worked on postage and copying machines, and is named as Inventor on a patent awarded to the company. He later managed their Tool Engineering Department.
Throughout his career and into his retirement, George enjoyed maintaining his cars, but particularly enjoyed woodworking, which he combined with his considerable drafting and engineering talents. His home and garage are filled with custom trimwork, as well as one-of-a-kind doors, closets, hatches, latches, handmade tools and organizers – even a sliding stairway – all designed and built by him. He redesigned and, with friends, renovated a cabin in Vermont. He also designed and drew up plans for additions and porches for friends and clients. His evenings were filled with reading (mostly American history), crossword puzzles and sudoku.
He always made time to help relatives, friends, neighbors and, often, strangers. Neighborhood children always knew where they could get their bike tires pumped up. He would put safety goggles on them so they could watch him at his woodworking machines.
George will be missed by all who came to know him.
George is survived by an older brother, William A. Rahgo, and a younger sister, Lorraine Rahgo Badrick (husband David), both in Milford.

Peter M. Rembetsy
Peter Michael Rembetsy, Sr., 104, of Milford, beloved husband of the late Margaret Rembetsy, passed away on August 11, 2023. Born on April 8, 1919 in Lynn, MA, he was the son of the late Theodore and Bessie Rembetsy.
Emblematic of the greatest generation, Pete lived a life of patriotic service. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp. in 1942 and got his wings in December of 1943. He flew 30 missions as a B-24 Liberator lead pilot with the 93rd Bomber Squadron of the Army Air Corp. during WWII, including ferrying supplies for the Battle of the Bulge.
After the war, Pete and his wife, Margaret made their home in Milford where he worked as a service manager for Mack Trucks. He remained in the Air Force Reserve, became the Vice President of the Air Force Reserve Officer Association, and was an active member of the Whitehead Society, the Air Force Memorial Foundation, and Saint Mary Church. Pete continued his interest in flying aircrafts as a consultant for Pratt and Whitney. He enjoyed spending time with his son, two grandsons, and seven great grandchildren.
Peter leaves behind his grandchildren, Michael (Susan) of Berkeley Heights NJ, and Jon (Annie) Rembetsy of Whispering Pines N.C.; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Bear, Tyler, Lily, Piper, Rowan and Stephen; his daughter-in-law, Rosemary Rembetsy; and many extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his son, Peter M. Rembetsy, Jr. and his wife of 55 years, Margaret.
Friends and family may gather from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Saint Mary Church, 70 Gulf St., Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. that morning at the church. Interment will follow at Saint Mary Cemetery, Buckingham Ave., Milford.

Andrew E. Silverman
Andrew Silverman, 45, of New York City and Milford, CT, beloved husband of Aya Silverman, passed away on July 16, 2023. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Andrew was the son of Joseph and Linda Silverman.
Andrew loved to travel, having visited all seven continents by the time he was 30. He loved cooking and trying new foods, and was known for always having a new gadget in the kitchen or on the deck. Andrew was an avid skier, and despite always saying that he wanted to try someplace new, he found himself returning to Whistler Mountain year after year.
But, most of all, Andrew loved spending time with his family at his beach house, sitting on his deck or floating in the ocean.
Andrew was a proud Googler, where he worked the last 16 years, following receiving his MBA at The University of Pennsylvania, and majoring in Computer Science and Mathematics at Wesleyan University.
Andrew is survived by his wife, Aya, his three children, Mia, Jason and Brian, his parents, Joseph and Linda, and his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Melissa, and 6 nephews and nieces in the U.S. and Japan.

Gabrielle Ann (Tingley) Speier
Gabrielle Ann Speier, also known as Gabbi, peacefully passed away on July 30, 2023, in her hometown of Milford, Connecticut, at the age of 66. She was born on June 30, 1957, in Milford, and was the beloved wife of Ben Speier, loving mother of Danielle Speier, cherished sister of Beth Salemme and Brad Tingley, and proud grandmother of Ryan Donnelly. Gabrielle, or Gabbi as she was affectionately known, was a kind, creative, and loving individual. She had a warm and compassionate nature that touched the lives of those around her. With a passion for crafting and cooking, she found joy in creating beautiful pieces and delicious meals for her loved ones to enjoy. Gabbi dedicated over 40 years of her life working as an accountant in Milford. Her meticulous attention to detail and strong work ethic earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and clients alike. In addition to her successful career, Gabbi cherished her family and the time spent with her loved ones. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, always making sure to create lasting memories with each of them. Gabbi will be dearly missed by her husband, Ben, her daughter, Danielle, her sister, Beth, her brother, Brad, and her grandson, Ryan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carol and Alton Tingley.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at 2:00 pm at the Gregory F Doyle Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating Gabbi’s life and sharing their memories of her.
Gabrielle Ann Speier, a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, will forever be remembered for her kind heart, creative spirit, and dedication to her family and career. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Charles Richard “Rich” Waskiewicz
Charles Richard “Rich” Waskiewicz, 69, passed away after a long illness on 6 August 2023.
Born 25 November 1953 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to William and Rita (Jarres) Waskiewicz, Rich received an Associates degree from Miami Dade Junior College, his Bachelors from Florida International University and his Masters from the University of Pittsburgh where he met his future wife of 42 years in the same Public and International Affairs program. Rich then went on to have a long career in economic development, working first for the Small Business Administration in Washington, DC and a field office in Trenton, NJ. He was then brought in by the Travelers Insurance Company to lead their small business initiatives. From there he spent the next dozen years at the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies as the business manager and director of research grants. It was said that he then moved from ‘trees’ to ‘bones’ when he joined the Musculoskeletal Institute at the University of Connecticut Health Center in the same position.
It was during his time at Yale that he developed his own personal love of forestry and bought his two tree farms in Florida, continuing to this day to put stewardship of the land into practice. Chairing the Inland Wetlands & Water Courses Commission for the Town of Orange was a natural progression, combining his love of nature with civic engagement, which public service he continued in several ways throughout the years in our hometown.
Known to many as ‘Papa,’ it is a title he earned and deserved. Papa was funny and had a quick sense of humor. No matter the situation he knew how to mingle, work a room or tell a joke that would make you feel at ease such that you could have been friends forever even if you’d just met. And no matter whose path he would cross, he would be the first to say thank you for being here.
Beyond his commitment to education, devotion to hard work and a life-long thirst for knowledge – each a value he instilled in his daughters – Rich had a passion for photography, travel, food and cooking, and soccer. He was also an avid Boston Red Sox fan, something he so enjoyed sharing with his ‘three girls.’
To the best Papa, you will always be with us. May your memory be eternal.
Rich leaves behind his loving wife, Cynthia Anasson, and their beloved daughters Eleni A. Waskiewicz and Nina G. Waskiewicz; sister Bonnie Wolf, brother Bill Waskiewicz and sister Cindy Rose Waskiewicz (Noel Pelella), sister-in-law Karen Anasson-Dooley (Kevin Dooley) as well as many nieces and nephews both here and in Greece. Rich’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to his extended care team at Yale New Haven Health – Smilow Cancer Hospital (amongst the many were Dr. Harriet Kluger and Dr. Mary Barden), UConn Heath Center (Dr. Upendra Hegde) as well as the Orange Visiting Nurse Association, in the long journey he undertook with their help to control the disease that had afflicted him. In addition to his parents, Rich was preceded in death by his brother Daniel.
Visiting hours and a funeral service will be held from 2-5 p.m. this SUNDAY, 13 August 2023, at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford, Connecticut. The funeral service is to begin at 4:30 p.m. Burial will be private. Grace Willison
Grace O’Toole Willison, 95, a resident of Milford, C.T. and former resident of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., passed away on July 17, 2023 at her home. She was born on May 22, 1928 in Yonkers, N.Y., the daughter of the late James and Helen O’Toole. She was also the beloved sister of James O’Toole and John “Jack” O’Toole, both predeceased. On July 2, 1955, she married her husband, Alfred Willison, also of Yonkers, N.Y. (predeceased) and went on to have two wonderful children, Carol and James.
Grace was a long time secretary for the Wappingers Central School District in New York, a job she loved. She took great pride in her quick typing skills and loved playing a role in education. However, her true love was the beach, specifically Silver Sands in Milford, C.T., where she would spend summers with her parents, brothers, husband, children, and many nieces and nephews. Eventually she and her husband bought a cottage on the beach where she welcomed family and friends throughout her lifetime. Grace was extremely passionate about fixing her beach cottage herself, and took pride in using it as a gathering place for generations of her family. She made lifetime friends with her neighbors, and after she retired, she moved to Milford full-time so she could enjoy waking up to the sounds of the waves daily.
While in Milford, Grace loved to attend events at the Senior Center and went to the Planet Fitness gym on a daily basis. Her drive to stay fit was something that allowed her to live a very long and healthy life. Grace will be severely missed by all who knew her, especially her daughter Carol Conston and son-in-law, Kenneth Conston; her son, James Willison and his long-time partner, Cindy Barboza; her granddaughters, Lauren (Conston) Wilke and her husband Sean Wilke, and Michelle (Conston) Carter and husband Alexander Carter. Grace was also fortunate enough to experience years as a great-grandmother to her great-grandchildren, Hayden, Decker, and Lennon Wilke, as well as Perry Carter. Grace is also survived by many nieces and nephews that loved her dearly.
A private service will be held for Grace. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to a local animal shelter. Both Grace and her late husband, Al, were huge animal lovers and a donation in their memory is extremely sentimental to the family.
Judith Ann Yerxa
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Judith Ann Yerxa, 80, on August 10th, 2023. Born on July 5, 1943 in New Haven, CT, she was devoted and beloved wife of the late David F. Yerxa and the daughter of the late William Holston and Muriel (Fournier) Holston Day. Judy was the loving mother of her surviving children, David W. Yerxa and Daniel (Christina) Yerxa, and she was predeceased by her daughter, Jacqueline Ann Yerxa. Judy was the loving grandmother of her surviving grandchildren, David C., Jack, Christopher, and William Yerxa, to whom no one made her smile more, and she is survived by her brother, William (Pamela) Holston.
Judy graduated Milford High School with the class of 1961. She worked at Orange Agency in Orange, CT for several years and she went on to obtain an accounting certificate from Housatonic Community College and eventually retired from the Schick razor company. Judy was also a member of the Milford Garden Club.
Judy brought light into every room she entered with her quick wit and elegant style. She loved to spend holidays decorating her home and creating beautiful memories for her family. She loved participating in her high school class reunion committees and enjoyed the companionship of many of her friends. She loved being a member of the Morningside community for 53 years and enjoyed swimming, playing tennis & mahjong with her friends and neighbors. She especially loved walking her beloved dog Murphy.
Judy’s greatest passion was her love of gardening. She beautified her home with amazing flowers and plants that were chosen with much love and care. Judy will be remembered for her warm heart, strength, and joyful personality. She was a beautiful person in every way and leaves behind many special memories and friendships.
