Almeida, Jane Marie Benoit Almeida

Jane Almeida, 97, of Milford, the loving wife of Seraphine (Sal) Almeida, entered into eternal rest on Friday, February 8, 2019 at Milford Hospital following a brief illness. Born on August 3, 1921 in St. Chrysostome, Quebec, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Odilon and Melanie Beaudry.

Jane grew up on a farm in Vermont which inspired her hobbies of fishing, gardening and arts and crafts, especially oil painting. She spent many of her later years doing volunteer work with Sal at Milford Hospital and the Milford Senior Center. She was a devoted Catholic and member of Christ the Redeemer Church in Milford, CT.

In addition to her husband of 40 years, Sal, she is survived by her loving children, Michael Benoit and wife Karen and Douglas Benoit and wife Guadalupe; her grandchildren Michael and wife Rebecca, Kara DeSousa and husband Tony, Kimberly Benoit and Alejandra Soliz; her great-grandchildren Emma and Paisley Benoit; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Gerard Benoit, and her five sisters and three brothers. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Milford Hospital for showing compassion and taking great care of Jane.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Christ the Redeemer Church, 325 Oronoque Rd., Milford, CT 06461. Bradley, Charles J.

Charles J. “CJ” Bradley 34, of Orange passed away on February 5, 2019 at his home.  CJ was born in New Haven on June 14, 1984 beloved son of Curt and Cathy Bartnicki Bradley III of Orange.  Loving brother of Franklin C. “Scooby” (Trisha) Bradley IV of Orange.  Uncle of Logan Curtis Bradley.  Boy friend of Paige Anderson of Orange.  CJ is also survived by his dogs Benz, Chubz and Kaubota.  Former husband of Shalen Bradley of Woodbridge.  At the time of his death CJ was the CEO of Prindle Hill Construction and a real estate agent for Colonial Properties.

Ellison-Manalis, Paulette R.

Paulette R. Ellison-Manalis, age 57, of Milford, CT, beloved wife of Ioannis Manalis, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2019 in Bridgeport Hospital with her loving family by her side. Paulette was born on January 29, 1962 in Bridgeport, CT and was the daughter of the late Franklin H. Ellison, Jr. and Irene M. Stefura Ellison. Paulette was formerly employed by Frankie’s Diner in Bridgeport, CT and has waitressed at various diners all over Fairfield County. Paulette graduated from Harding High School, Bridgeport, CT and was an honorary “Presidettes” Mascot and excelled in Home Economics class. She was a loving, caring, spiritual and strong-willed individual, who lived for her children, was inspired when listening to music (Todd Rundgren, Brad Paisley), and enjoyed the company of her faithful dog, Snuggles “Baby”. Paulette is survived by her son, Tasos Manalis of New Jersey and her daughter, Alyssa M. Foster, Sarah Alexis

Sarah Alexis Foster left a mark on the world in many significant ways, though just 27 years old. Tragically, this beautiful soul was abruptly taken from all those who knew and loved her on February 15th.

Sarah’s kind spirit and zest for life attracted people to her. She had a magnetic personality, and a smile that would light up any room. A teacher, Sarah loved her work, and was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students. For the last four years, Sarah taught 6th grade social studies at Louis M. Klein Middle School, Harrison Central School District, Harrison NY, where she also coached girls volleyball.

Sarah was born November 17, 1991 in New Haven, CT to Laurie Stone and Stuart M. Foster. She attended Beecher Road School in Woodbridge, CT through 6th grade, and attended Hamden Hall Country Day School, from which she graduated high school in 2010. She earned a bachelor’s degree at Union College in Schenectady, NY graduating in 2014. Thereafter, she attended Union Graduate College where she earned a Master’s degree. Sarah loved the beach, international travel, history and the excitement of New York City life. She was full of laughter.

She leaves behind her father, Stuart M. Foster, mother, Laurie Stone and stepfather, Jim Gregory, sister and best friend Leah Foster. She also leaves her grandfather, A. Harris “Boey” Stone, his fiancée Leslie Cahill, grandmother Eileen Cowell and her husband Bud Cowell of Hilton Head, SC, her beloved aunt Tanya Lee Stone, cousins, Liza Stone and Jake Stone of S. Burlington, VT. Uncles and aunts, Arnie and Norene Foster, Chris and Stefanie Freeman, cousins Rachel Foster and Jake Grabell, Aly and Chris Plourde, Kyle and Emily, Kris, Samantha and Alana DuFresne. Her grandparents, Audrey and Robert Foster, predeceased her.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday, February 18th, at 12 Noon at Congregation Or Shalom, 205 Old Grassy Hill Road, Orange, CT. The family will sit Shiva Monday evening, February 18th and Tuesday evening, February 19th, at Congregation Or Shalom, both evenings from 6:30-8:30 with a brief service at 7:00. Gombrewicz, Amelia J.

Amelia J. (Millie) Gombrewicz, 98, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Charles Gombrewicz, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2019, with her loving family by her side. Born on June 12, 1920, in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late John and Alice Fitzpatrick.
Amelia served for many years as a private-duty nurse in the Connecticut/New York region. She was a passionate member of Precious Blood Parish (Saint Mary) and enjoyed attending weekly services with her family. As an active member of the Milford Senior Center, she attended ceramic classes where she made many family heirlooms. Millie was also a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed many outings with her lady friends.

Amelia is survived by her daughter, Marlene Hessberger; grandchildren, Lauri (Javier) Ramos, Charles J. Gombrewicz, Dawn Cole (Robert), Michael Hessberger (Courtney), Bryce Gombrewicz, Robert J. Hessberger, and Erin Frank; great-grandchildren, Javier, Alora, Cody, Victor, Brandon, Jiline, Ryan, Zachary, Charlie and LilyAnn; great-great-granddaughter, Amelia; sister, Alice Fox; and extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her son, Charles P. Gombrewicz; son-in-law, Robert L. Hessberger, as well as several brothers and sisters.

Lee, Chune

Chune Jea Lee, age 87 of Orange, beloved wife of the late Kyung Chan Lee, died peacefully, surrounded by her family on January 9, 2019 at the St. Raphael Campus of Yale New Haven Health. Born on October 8, 1931 in Dae Jeon, Chungnam, South Korea, she was the daughter of the late Byong Hak and Jong Keum (Lee) Yoo.  Mrs. Lee immigrated with her husband and family to the U.S. in 1977 and settled in Greensboro, NC where they resided for 10 years.  While in Greensboro, she worked as a specialty tempura chef for the prominent and well known Kabuto Japanese Restaurant.  Mrs. Lee moved to Connecticut nearly 30 years ago and resided in the towns of Ansonia and Orange.  In her younger years, she enjoyed traveling with her husband and always practiced her flare for cooking, being especially known for her Asian dishes.  She was dedicated member of Soka Gakkai International Buddhist Temple (SGI-USA) of Orange, where she was devout in the teachings of Buddha.  She will be long remembered for her limitless courage, wisdom, and compassion; values she lived by and instilled in her sons and grandsons.  Mrs. Lee is survived by her devoted sons, Young Won (Chyeon) Lee of Orange, Soong Won (Kyung) Lee of NC and Myung Won (Yun) Lee of Orange; cherished grandchildren, James Lee of Philadelphia, PA, Brian Lee of NC and Edward Lee of Boston, MA; a sister Hwa Jae Yoo, of South Korea; as well as several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband of 50 years, she was predeceased by a brother, Jae Kyung Yoo.  Funeral services will take place on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at 10:00 AM in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia.  Interment will directly follow in Orange Center Cemetery, Orange.  Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, prior to the service.  Memorial contributions may be made to the SGI CT REGION, 518 Boston Post Rd.  Orange, CT 06477.  Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.

Leheny, Edward Joseph

Edward Joseph Leheny, age 90 of Milford, CT, passed away February 6, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Edward was born in Danbury, CT on December 20, 1928, son of the late Edward and Marcella Leheny. He is survived by his wife Marie K. Leheny; his daughters Patricia Leheny, Cynthia O’Rourke, and son-in-law John O’Rourke; his grandchildren Sarah, Nicole, Erin, Meghan, Mallory, Linnea, Sean, Alexander, Timothy, and Matthew; his great-grandchildren Thom and Everett; his siblings Alice Smart, James Leheny, and Eleanor Kirk; and several nieces and nephews. Lumley, Deborah (Torreso)

Deborah Torreso Lumley, age 70 of Orange, passed away in her home on February 12, 2019 from complications of Scleroderma.

Debbie was surrounded by her family; her entire world, her husband, of 41 years, Raymond (Pete) Lumley. Her older and only brother, Dennis Torreso; niece, Kristine Torreso, sister-in-law, Elizabeth Torreso; cousin Judith Toohey and Kyle Toohey; Godson Brendan Toohey; and stepson, Peter Lumley.

Debbie was born in Bridgeport, CT and was the daughter of Michael and Louise Torreso, predeceased by her aunts: Rose Fritz, Ida Verelli, Doris Blundo, Maria Riccio, and Teresa Santini.

Debbie was a lifelong crafter and artist, a baker of her famous Italian cookies during the holidays, and a supportive volunteer of her church. If she was not in the kitchen cooking, you could find her in the garden tending to her hydrangeas or by the pool soaking up the sunshine. Debbie was employed by Sals Express and Tetley Tea.

Moccia, Patrizia

Patrizia (Pat) Barbara Corapi Moccia, age 87, of Orange, CT, beloved wife of Mario Moccia passed away peacefully at Bishop Wicke Health & Rehabilitation Center in Shelton, CT on January 27, 2019. In her final days, Pat was surrounded by family and friends who shared memories and colorful stories of past decades spent with her. Pat is survived by her children, Barbara (Tom) Rhoads, Mario (Edie) Moccia, II, Andrea (The late Tom) Rebollar, and James “Jim” Moccia; grandchildren, Kristyn (Paul), Jaclyn (Brian), Michael (Amanda), Mark (Alexandra), Kaitlyn (James) and Vinny; great-grandchildren, Joey, William, and Claire; and her sister, Norma Hitchcock. Pat was born in 1931 to the late James and Gladys Corapi and grew up in Washburn, Maine, where she enjoyed ice skating in the cold Maine winters and dancing in the thawed out summers. After moving to Connecticut in the late 1940s, she converted to Catholicism and met the love of her life, Mario Moccia, who won her affection with a magic trick. Pat and Mario shared 67 years of a strong, committed marriage that saw four children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren come into the family. Pat was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and a proud great-grandmother who would do anything to keep her family happy, healthy and well fed. Her love was infectious, and her family will remember her as kind-hearted, supportive and an example of unconditional love as the heart of the family. Pat was a dedicated parishioner of Holy Infant Church in Orange, CT, a longtime patron of the High Plains Community Center in Orange, and an avid card and bingo player. She passionately enjoyed helping others and being part of her community. Pape, Galen William

Galen William Pape, 87 years old, previously of Milford, CT and Huntington Beach, CA, died January 3, 2019 at the Watson Fields Assisted Living Facility in Dover, New Hampshire. Galen was born on June 16, 1931 in Monthalia,Texas to late Galen Pape Sr. and Mabel Morton. In 1953 he graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and enjoyed a long and successful career in aerospace engineering. He was most satisfied by his contributions on the Apollo space program and the Sea Hawk helicopter project at Sikorsky Aircraft. In his free time Galen enjoyed reading, gardening, boating and being outdoors. He was predeceased by his wife Edith Steiner of Switzerland. Galen is survived by his three children: Barbara Corey (Jon Anderson), Bruno (Nancy Pierpont) and Charles (Patricia Adams); four grandchildren: Peter Corey, Andrew Corey, Sonja Pape and Serena Pape; sister Louise Pierce and niece Jan Upchurch. In keeping with Galen’s wishes, his ashes will be brought to rest in his home state of Texas.

Patrick, Barbara

Barbara Jean Howe Patrick, 80, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Peter M. Patrick, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on February 15, 2019. Barbara was born in Milford, on June 22, 1938 to the late Lawrence and Marion Howe. She worked for many years at Robertshaw Controls and Blakeslee Prestress as a payroll clerk. After retiring, she loved her job as a Milford School Crossing Guard for six years. Barbara enjoyed playing bingo and cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren.

Barbara leaves behind her children, Larry (Nancy) Patrick, Doug (Liz) Patrick, David (Teresa) Patrick and Colleen (Dave) Ostrom; and grandchildren, Madeline, Peter and Caitlin Patrick, Jessica Patrick, David and Stella Patrick and Keira Ostrom. She was predeceased by her brothers, Paul, Ed, Larry and Ken Howe and her sister Frances Hughes. She was also predeceased by her loving cat, Midget.

Pinto , Anthony “Tony,” Jr.

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father, Anthony “Tony” John Pinto, Jr. (Junior) of West Palm Beach, Florida, on February 1, 2019. He passed peacefully surrounded by his four daughters. He was born to the late Anthony J. Pinto, Sr. and Mary Amato Pinto of New Haven, Connecticut.

Tony graduated from Wilbur Cross High School in 1961 and later attended Bryant College in Rhode Island. He was married to Carol Glowacki Pinto is 1964 in Orange, Connecticut, and together they raised four daughters.

Tony was a real estate broker and commercial developer in Connecticut. He worked for the Fusco Corporation in his early years and continued his success in commercial real estate until his retirement.

He was also an accomplished professional pool player, who went on to win several tournaments as a member of the Renegades, including wins in Las Vegas.

Anthony could fill a room when he entered with his contagious sense of humor and smile. He was known for his legendary Fourth of July fireworks, passed onto him by his late grandfather Frank Amato, his love for the New York Giants and his generous heart.

In his later years, Tony enjoyed the company of his partner and companion of 9 years, Ann Marie Mercurio of Clinton, Connecticut, who passed in 2016. Together they shared their love with family from holiday parties to impromptu gatherings on “the seawall” at their home in Clinton, Connecticut. To see them laughing and dancing the night away together, would inspire love and happiness to all that knew them.

Tony is survived by his sister, Francis Festa (Robert Festa) and their two sons Robert and David. His four daughters, Maria Pinto (Jodie Bechard), Audra Pinto (Brian Mahoney), Nicole Pinto (Toby Barnes) and Erica Pinto (Adam Parker).

He is also survived by his grandsons Rowan and Keane Mahoney, his former wife Carol Pinto, girlfriend Cynthia Anderson of West Palm Beach, Florida, and many family and friends.

Rakoczy, Frank

Frank Rakoczy, age 91, of Milford, beloved husband of the late Vera H. (Dressing) Rakoczy, entered peaceful rest on February 11, 2019. He was born on June 20, 1927 in Fairfield and was the son of the late Alex and Elizabeth Harkai Rakoczy. Mr. Rakoczy was a firefighter for Sikorsky Aircraft for many years before his retirement. He was a proud US Navy veteran and a former Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus in Milford. Mr. Rakoczy is survived by his devoted daughters, Kathleen Bodge of Milford and Frances Rakoczy of Bridgeport, granddaughter, Heather Lovely (Heath) of Gorham, ME, three great-grandchildren, Lila, Lily and Luke Lovely, sister-in-law, Florence Stoeber and several nieces and nephews. Sweedler, Richard P. Sr.

Richard P. Sweedler, Sr., 72, of Milford, beloved husband of Patricia (Gay) Sweedler, passed away on February 5, 2019. Born on September 17, 1946 in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late Nathan and Joan (Verilli) Sweedler.

Rich was an avid sports fan, he loved rooting for the Yankees and the Vikings.

Trueman, Catharine C.

Catharine Crowell Trueman, age 95 of Milford, passed away peacefully on February 13th at the Milford Health & Rehabilitation Center. Born September 25, 1923 to the late James and Irma Trefry Trueman, besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Rita Jean (Trueman) Hallman, and her brother James Trueman. She is survived by nieces and nephews of the Trueman and Hallman Families. A lifelong Milford resident, she was one of the oldest active members of the First United Church of Christ, Congregational and volunteered for 25 years at Milford Hospital. She graduated from Weylister Secretarial Junior College in Milford and worked for 31 years at The Milford Rivet and Machine Company in the payroll department. Catharine was beloved by her family and friends, and especially by her nieces and nephews whom she doted upon. Walsh, Michael

Michael Walsh, age 73 of Milford, passed away February 9, 2019. Michael was born in Dorchester, MA, August 17, 1945, son of the late Richard A. and Mary Kane Walsh. Michael was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War and later worked as a taxi driver for Milford Cab. He is survived by his daughter Rachael Gaites and her husband of Milford.
