Alice M. Cunningham

Alice Mary Cunningham (née Dooling), a lifelong resident of Milford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 92.

Born on May 8, 1933, in Milford, Alice was the daughter of Ruth and Patrick Dooling. She grew up in the Walnut Beach neighborhood, where she formed cherished memories that stayed with her throughout her life. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John E. Cunningham (Jack). High school sweethearts, she and Jack shared 62 wonderful years of marriage and made a perfect team-devoted to one another and to the family they built together.

Alice’s life was centered around her family. She was a loving mother and a deeply devoted grandmother, finding her greatest joy in spending time with her grandchildren. She was known for her warm hospitality, and no family gathering was complete without one of Alice’s delicious home-cooked meals-she insisted on preparing each person’s favorite dish, which often resulted in a very crowded table featuring many courses. Just when you thought you couldn’t eat another bite, she’d smile and say, “You hardly ate anything!” Her home was a place of comfort, laughter, and great conversation.

Gift-giving was her love language and Christmas was her Super Bowl. Her grandchildren would all agree she always outdid Santa. She had a flair for fashion and a great eye for picking out just the right thing. Whether for food or clothes, shopping was one of Alice’s favorite pastimes and she loved driving out to the shops on the Post Road. She informed all her grandchildren of the latest trends.

Alice’s motto was to “go with the flow,” and she lived it with grace. She was an excellent conversationalist-always up to date on current events, the news, and, without fail, the weather. If you needed a forecast or a headline, you could count on Alice. She had a kind word and a compliment for everyone, and people were drawn to her warmth and trustworthiness. She listened without judgment and kept every confidence close.

She worked part-time for many years in the Milford school system, where she enjoyed supporting students and being part of the community. She was also a dedicated volunteer with the Milford Hospital Auxiliary for many years, graciously serving on the juice cart and offering friendly smiles and conversation to patients and staff alike.
Alice had a gentle love for animals, especially dogs, a fondness she shared with Jack.

A woman of lifelong faith, Alice was a devoted Catholic who found strength in her beliefs and persevered through difficult times with quiet resilience. After losing her husband, she lived independently for many years-an inspiring example of grace, strength, and good humor.

She cultivated deep friendships throughout her life. We were always amazed by the number of birthday cards she received every year. She kept in touch with so many people, and so many kept in touch with her.

Alice will be remembered for her kindness, her calm presence, and her uncanny ability to make everyone feel seen, valued, and at home. She leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and a life beautifully lived-carried forward in the hearts of all who knew her.

She is survived by her sons, Kevin (Cheryl) West Simsbury and Mark (Gayle) Glastonbury; her beloved grandchildren, Caitlin, Meghan, David, Allison Hobbs (Dan), Kyle, and Matthew; her great-grandson, Liam; and her sister, Patricia Dooling (Milford).

Besides her husband, Alice was also predeceased by her infant son, Craig; her sisters, Ethel and Ruth and brother John. Aunt Alice will also be missed by a host of nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 21, 2025 11 a.m. at Saint Mary Church (Precious Blood Parish) 70 Gulf St., Milford, CT. Friends and family are invited to call from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. AT THE CHURCH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice. Virginia “Ginny” DeGiacomo

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beautiful mother Virginia, who died peacefully on June 27, 2025 after a brief stay at Milford Hospital.

Born on May 26, 1941 in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Anthony & Rose Nuccio of Astoria, NY. Being their only child, she was the light of their life and grew up as one of 27 first cousins though, to her they were more like brothers and sisters!

From a young age, she loved school and excelled in her studies. She received her diploma in only 3 years from William Cullen Bryant High School in Astoria, NY. An adventurous soul, at 17, she chose to work as a secretary at Voorhees Architectural firm in NYC.

Her favorite occupation, however, was raising her three children with her husband Jim in Milford Connecticut, where they lived together happily for 54 years. As her children grew, she then found a second career as a nursery school teacher at Shagbark Daycare in Orange, Connecticut. She worked there for 35 years and helped shape pre-schoolers for their educational journeys.

She met Jim, the love of her life at a dance in New York in the early 1960’s and proceeded to share 57 beautiful years of marriage and deep friendship.

Known to most as Ginny, she was a social person bringing many of her friends together, who became lifelong friends themselves. Virginia was also known to celebrate all friends’ holidays, birthdays, and anniversaries; with an impeccable memory for remembering them all. She was extremely active in her community for over five decades and gave back in many ways to: St Mary’s Ladies Guild (where she was a parishioner), Newcomers Club, The Junior Women’s Club, and also volunteered at BoysTown, Milford Hospital, Milford Library Story Hour, and joined her husband serving at the homeless shelter dinner in Milford for over 20 years.

The final year and a half of her life, Ginny resided at Carriage Green Assisted Living in Milford. She was blessed to find yet another community that embraced her. Caregivers and nurses saw to it that all her needs were met. In her time there, she made countless new friends.

Virginia is predeceased by her husband Jim, and her parents Rose and Tony Nuccio. She is survived by her children James A. (Michele) DeGiacomo, Suzanne (Thomas) O’Neill, Paul (Leslie) DeGiacomo; her grandchildren Jillian DeGiacomo, Matthew (Jess) DeGiacomo, Nicholas DeGiacomo, Michael O’Neill, Jennifer O’Neill and Jessica DeGiacomo. She leaves behind two beloved great granddaughters, Nora & Ellie.

Friends and family are invited to gather on Wednesday July 2, 2025, at The Cody White Funeral Home from 4-8pm at 107 Broad Street in Milford, Connecticut. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday July 3, at 10:30am at Saint Mary’s Church, 70 Gulf Street Milford, Connecticut. Memorial Donations in Virginia’s name may be made to the American Heart Association.

Edward Joseph Degnan

Edward Joseph Degnan, 80, of Milford, CT passed peacefully on June 3rd, 2025, after a brief illness with his family by his side.

Ed was the son of the late Edward and Julia (Lutian) Degnan. He felt blessed to grow up in a home on the Housatonic River in Stratford, CT where he inherited his passion for boating and cruising Long Island Sound from his father. Together, they built his first boat, and he was always proud to say, “I had a boat before a bicycle”.

Ed is survived by his devoted and loving family, his wife Joan and their children Sean & Jill and Erin & Dennis. Ed was “Poppa” to his beautiful grandchildren Stella, Joseph, Kennedy and Kaiden, whom he adored. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and his greatest concern was always that they were ok. Ed is also survived by his in-laws Kevin, Margaret, Michael, Debbie and Laura and their families.

Ed was predeceased by his in-laws Edward and Josephine Casey, whom he loved dearly, sons Edward and Kevin, sisters Jackie, Tricia, and Rita, and brothers-in-law Edward and Brian. He was also predeceased by a childhood friend who was family to us. When the two of them were together, you couldnt help but have a great time. Some of our best memories are based on our time with him and his family, especially time spent boating and in Cape Cod. Ed also loved his trips to Florida on Jack & Jimmys boats. Helen and Carol kept them well nourished.

To say Ed worked hard would be an understatement. On balance, he made time to enjoy life in the same manner. Ed felt fortunate to work in the trucking industry for over sixty years. First, as an owner-operator, then as an agent for Jones Motor for thirty-five years. An opportunity that Ed was grateful to the company owner, Jim Koegel for providing. Ed loved working for “Jones” and all those he worked with over the years. Especially Dave, Dwight, George, Skip, Eric, Mike, Pia, Susan, Larry F., and of course Larry N., “The Boss”, who has been a thoughtful and loyal friend to our family for over 30 years. Ed hauled freight well over a million miles through every state in the U.S., including Alaska, as well as Canada in his prized, custom-ordered 1978 Kenworth, which was set to be featured in a truck show at the Hartford Civic Center before the roof of the building collapsed in January of 78. We will miss hearing the stories of his adventures on the road. Turns out that the “lean years” which were thought to be the worst, made the best memories.

We were fortunate to spend every summer for the last 42 years on our boat in places like Block Island, Newport, Port Jefferson, Mystic, Sag Harbor and Northport. “It Aint Eazy” was our home away from home. The friends we met through boating became family. There was never a dull moment, especially on F dock. We eventually were the “senior boaters” but were always included and felt “forever young” when with them. Ed loved riding in the dinghy and looked forward to “dink & drink” on Wednesdays. We will always picture him sitting on the dock, watching the boats return at the end of the weekend, and savoring every minute.

In addition to boating, Ed enjoyed watching NHRA drag racing – especially John Force, NASCAR, and UCONN basketball (both men and women) – he never missed a game. He also enjoyed going to Barrett-Jackson auctions and tinkering in his garage until late at night. He loved to play fifties music and sing along as if no one was listening. We will miss his sense of humor and thoughtfulness.

Special thanks to Lorenzo, Mondie and Millaine. We appreciate you tremendously.

We will remember him giving us his all! If something was important to us, he always made it happen. When facing his recent illness, he was more than grateful for the life he lived and those that were a part of it.

Our hearts are broken, and we will miss him forever.

In lieu of flowers please consider donating to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital online at http://www.stjude.org/ or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation online at https://t2t.org/

Her yard was filled with her favorite flowers and vegetables. She also enjoyed traveling and was always up for an adventure with her children and grandkids. And recently, through her love of reading, she was able to reconnect with old friends in their book club.

In addition to raising her family, she worked tirelessly for the community, from the City of Milford school system to the Childrens Community Programs of Connecticut in New Haven, where she worked for twenty years. Her time at CCP was spent building meaningful relationships with the children and families and helping them thrive in the community.

Joyce is survived by her children, Tara (Mitchell) Wexler, Jonathan (Louise) Norman, and Meghan (Robert) Cole, her grandchildren, Nicholas, Finn, Liv, Kai, Ella, and Liam; her brother, Theodore LeGeyt and her sisters in-law Marianne Callahan and Melissa (Fred) Panas; and by several nieces, cousins, and extended family members and friends.

Friends and family may call from 3PM 5PM on June 6, 2025, at the CODY-WHITE FUNERAL HOME, 107 BROAD ST., MILFORD, CT. Interment will be private. The Norman Family would like to thank CT Hospice for their continuous care and support during this time. Steven “Quincy” Thomas Price

Steven “Quincy” Price, 74, of West Haven, passed away peacefully with family by his side on June 24, 2025. Born on March 9, 1951 in Queens, New York, he was the son of the late Ellery and Madeline Price.

Steven grew up in Queens, New York before moving to Milford and attending Jonathan Law High School. Throughout high school, he was known as the life of the party. Rooms would alight as soon as he entered, a trait that remained forever. After graduating in 1971, Steven went onto dedicating 30 years as a CNC operator at Sargent Manufacturing Company in New Haven. It took some time to adjust to the retirement life, but as soon as he did, he embraced a slower pace of life with grace and gratitude. In retirement, he became a laid-back soul who found joy in simple pleasures: long afternoons at the beach, cheering on the Yankees and Buccaneers, and filling his home with the sounds of The Beatles and The Allman Brothers. A true night owl, he still found joy in those friendships created in high school.

Steven is survived by his children, Jason (Lauren), Nicole (partner, Aron), and Scott; his granddaughter, Peyton; his sisters, Victoria (Brian), Laurie (John), and Madeline; his niece, Gloria (Ken); as well as many other nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. Edward J. Quirk

Be Prepared. Edward John Quirk Jr. (Ed) peacefully passed away on April 12, 2025, blanketed in his family’s love. Ed was born on December 22, 1940, to the late Edward J Quirk Sr. and Louise Jones Quirk. He was the beloved son-in-law of the late Frederick Hoxsie and Dorothy Lorraine Mackey Hoxsie. Besides his parents and in-laws, he was predeceased by his son, Edward “Eddie” Frederick Quirk and many dear family and friends.

On my honor, I will do my best. Family was central to Ed’s existence. He shared 60 years of marriage with his beloved wife and best friend, Joan Hoxsie Quirk. Joan was his steadfast companion on life’s journeys. Besides Joan, he leaves his three surviving children – Kathy (Rich) Shea, Lorrie Quirk (Jason Kovach) and Jennifer Quirk. The lights of his life, his granddaughters Rebecca Sykes-Quirk (Steven Boynton), Amanda Sykes-Quirk and grandsons Colton and Everett Quirk-Orowson waited every day for their Papa to come home. He would delight them with tea parties, history lessons and playing hair salon. Never afraid to drop the masculine act and put his pinky up to sip “tea” with his princesses. Colton and Everett would tell Pa every nuance of their lives while playing with trains, reading books about dragons, and digging in the backyard.  Ed also had much love for his bonus grandsons, Nicholas Shea and Ethan Kovach. Ed is also survived by Frederick and Barbara Hoxsie, his devoted brother and sister-in-law and their son Frederick

To do my duty to God and my country. Education was a passion of Ed’s. He graduated from Boston College with a bachelor’s degree followed by his masters and 6th year degrees from Southern Connecticut State University. He began teaching at Forest School in 1963, followed by teaching Science at Gianotti and Bailey Middle School. He and Joan played a key role in establishing the West Haven Federation of Teachers Union and Ed served for many years as the Executive Vice-President. Ed was one of West Haven’s first Teachers of the Year. He later taught 6th and 3rd grade at Thompson Elementary School. He spent his last year teaching ISS at Bailey Middle School, becoming a mentor to many students. Even after he retired, he continued his passion in education, substituting at West Haven High School, especially in the Tech Ed department, and instilled his passion for education in his daughters and granddaughter who continue in the profession.

To help others at all times. As a vigil member of the Order of the Arrow, he received the Silver Beaver in Scouting for his dedication and mentoring of thousands of scouts and the George Meaney AFL/CIO Scouter award for outstanding service to the community.  Other significant contributions to Scouting included leading expeditions to Philmont Scout Ranch and holding influential roles such as Scout Master and Order of the Arrow Lodge Advisor.  His whole family was involved with scouts, Joan partnered with Ed in every conceivable part including designing patches and researching for his books on Scouting and Camp Sequassen, His son Eddie achieved Eagle Scout, and daughter Kathy was the first female member of the Order of the Arrow in the Quinnipiac Council. The whole family spent countless weekends for Spring and Fall Fellowship and were part of his dedication to the scouts. Ed worked with a fellow scout leader to found the Quinnipiac Dancers and integrated authentic Native American traditions into Scouting rituals. He also started the Sequassen Alumni organization to keep former scouts included in camp activities.   His dedication to scouts had a profound far-reaching impact on numerous former scouts, many of whom remained close to him and his family throughout his life.

To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight. Ed was a multifaceted person who was a history expert, loved antiquing and going to museums.  Every Saturday was spent tag saling with Jennifer and his crew of fellow bargain hunters. He was an expert at any topic and loved learning, teaching and mentoring every person he knew. Lorrie was his shadow, no matter what the activity, she was close behind. If you needed to know something about anything, you could just ask Ed, he always knew the answer. His contributions to keeping history alive in West Haven included as chairperson of the West Haven Bi-Centennial Committee where he planned a reenactment of the Battle of West Haven starting at Bradley Point and ending in New Haven. He spearheaded the efforts to maintain Campbell’s gravesite with yearly ceremonies led by his boy scout troop.

One of the many passions of their lives, Ed & Joan believed in travel. Together they traveled the world including many countries such as Egypt, Turkey, Norway and crossing the Panama Canal. Ed loved to explore the history and culture of many places and felt most at home in Ireland. Ed and Joan shared their love of travel with their family from camping in Canada, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine to multiple trips to Walt Disney World, starting in 1976. Every fall they would go alpine sledding and spend the summers at beaches in Rhode Island. When they traveled, the family would go for weeks to a location to learn about history, culture and to just have fun. One notable trip was a family cruise for Ed and Joan’s 50th Anniversary where the entire family enjoyed a week in the Caribbean. Later in life, they spent the summers in St. Petersburg Florida.

A celebration of Ed’s life will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at the First Congregational Church, 34 West Main St., Milford, CT 06460. This gathering will honor a man whose life was well-lived, widely traveled and profoundly loved by those he touched throughout his storied journey. In lieu of flowers the family asks that any memorial donation in Ed’s name be made to PBS foundation.pbs.org, or Tunnel to Towers Foundation t2t.org.

Robin “Tim” Tummins, age 78, of Milford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at Bridgeport Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. A man of deep strength, unwavering compassion, and character, he leaves behind a legacy that will continue to guide and inspire everyone who knew him.

Born and raised in Milford, Tim dedicated his life to service. He spent 30 years with the Milford Fire Department, rising to the rank of Battalion Chief. His leadership, loyalty, and courage under pressure earned him the respect of his peers and the gratitude of his community. Before his fire service, Tim served with pride for five years in the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army, including a tour in Vietnam. He carried that same sense of duty and honor into every chapter of his lifewhether in uniform, at home, or in the quiet ways he consistently showed up for others. He was always there for anyone and everyone who needed him, without judgement or hesitation, and was known to calmly respond, ‘not a problem.’

Tim had a sharp mind and an even sharper sense of humor. He was known for his quick wit and perfectly timed one-liners that could ease any moment. He never missed a chance to make someone laugh, often with a mischievous twinkle in his eye or a raised eyebrow that let you know he was one step ahead.

He loved music. It was the backdrop to many of his happiest momentsespecially dancing with his beloved wife, Susan. Together, they were always couple number one on the dance floor, always moving in perfect rhythm. Those songs became the soundtrack of a love story that spanned decades.

An adventurer at heart, Tim found joy in the outdoors: swimming, mountain climbing, kayaking, and exploring. He also had a deep love for Key West, a place that spoke to his spirit of freedom and fun. Whether trekking through nature or sipping something cold under the sun, Tim lived life with his whole heart.

He was a voracious reader and a history buff, always eager to learn and share his wisdom. He loved his dogs, who were always by his side. Above all else, Tim was devoted to his family. He never missed a grandchilds game, performance, award ceremony, or special event. His presence was a gift, his support unwavering, and his love unconditional. Friends and loved ones often said he had a heart as big as the skykind, caring, and full of life.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Tummins, and six children and their spouses: Scott Tummins (Cyndy), Shaileen McVeigh (Scott), Sarah Bousquet (Chris), Kateri Balduino (Michael), Peter

Sheila Duffy Welsh

Sheila Duffy Welsh passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on May 30, 2025. She was a loyal and committed mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, who always told her loved ones that “they were the greatest!”

Born on June 11, 1939 in New York City, Sheila grew up in the Bronx and summered in Milford at her grandmothers beach house in Bayview. She eventually purchased the home, living in Milford year-round and raising her family there. She established the Wepawaug Realty Co., working as a Realtor, before moving on to a career at “The Phone Company” (SNET, SBC, ATT). Sheila loved to learn and earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration while actively working full time. She was known at work as a compassionate and knowledgeable supervisor, who could be approached for personal advice or technical knowledge equally.

Most important to Sheila was her family. She maintained a lifelong friendship with her cousins Maureen, Betty, and Jim in Bolton Landing, New York. Her greatest passions in life were hosting the family holidays and finding the perfect gift. Sheila set her table with china and crystal, and anyone who would otherwise be alone was welcome. Her door was open for friends and family to visit at will. Many family members and friends alike found respite living with Sheila during times of need.

Sheilas family will always remember barbie-cups, cheese boards, sherbet with melon balls, and lottery tickets. Her children enjoyed receiving Christmas stockings and Easter baskets well into adulthood. These traditions continued with her granddaughter and great-grandchildren to whom she was devoted.
