Baldino, Domenic
Domenic Baldino, 78, formerly of Milford, CT passed away peacefully in Sarasota, FL surrounded by his family on June 18, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents Domenick and Theresa Baldino and by his son, Michael Baldino.
Domenic is survived by his wife Kathleen after 57 years of marriage, his sister Theresa Baldino Sciarra (Philip), his daughter Gina Karp (David) and his son David Baldino (Susan), and many loving grandchildren.
Domenic worked as a teacher in Connecticut for over 30 years. He loved science and history and passed on his love of learning to his children and grandchildren. He spent his youth playing football at Hillhouse High where he was captain of the team.
Domenic was very fond of the arts and enjoyed participating in many plays as acting and singing was his passion.
Friends and family will remember him telling stories and memories of his Italian heritage which included his love of traveling and cooking. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend to everyone.
Balentine, William M. Jr.
William (Bill) McConnell Balentine, Jr., beloved husband of Beatrice McMillen Balentine since June 13, 1953, passed away on June 16, 2019 at home in Milford, Connecticut. Bill was born on March 10, 1931 in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania to the late William M. Balentine, Sr. and Jane Patterson Balentine. He graduated from Canonsburg High School in 1949 and continued his education at Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University), obtaining a BS degree in Electrical Engineering in 1953. He served in the US Army Electronics Command during the Korean War, stationed at White Sands Missile Range in Las Cruces, New Mexico. After his Army service, he continued to work at White Sands as a civilian electronics engineer until moving to California in 1962 where he worked for several computer companies until his retirement. Bill was a resident of Costa Mesa, California for 35 years prior to moving to Connecticut in 1999. He was an active member of the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant serving as an elder and singing bass in the choir for years. In Milford, he was a member of the First United Church of Christ where he also sang in the choir as well as working with the Emma Davis Medical Equipment Ministry. He was also participating in the Milford Senior Center Gospel Choir. Dating back to his time in Las Cruces, Bill was a long-standing member of the Jornada Lodge #70, AF&AM. Bill is survived by his wife of 66 years, Beatrice; his daughter, Rebecca Balentine and her husband, Michael Ferrari of Oxford, CT; a granddaughter, Sarah Ferrari Keel and her husband, Cyrus Keel of Keystone, Colorado; a great-grandson, Cashius Keel; and his brother, George Balentine of Cheshire, CT. Batista, Angel
Angel Batista, age 80, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 29, 2019, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born in Las Tunas, Puerto Padre, Cuba. He was a successful business owner. Angel was known as a hard working family man that loved his wife, devoted his time to his grandchildren and loved his dogs “Roro and Chapo”. He is survived by his loving wife Maria Milagros, his children Angelo (JoAnn), Michael, Angela and Erica (Mark), and his grandchildren Michael “Mikey”, Christian, Brandon, Bryanna, Blake, Aidyn, Ethan and Eilana. He is also survived by his siblings, Miguel, Rosalba and Marta, his dearest cousin Albert (Anna). He was predeceased by his brother Armando. He touched many lives and will be missed dearly. Butanowicz, Tadeusz
Tadeusz Butanowicz, 86, of Orange, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2019 surrounded by family. He was born in Osowa, Poland on June 2, 1933 to the late Stanislaw and Stefania Butanowicz and immigrated to the United States in December of 1963. Before retiring, he was employed as a machinist at Bridgeport Machines for over 30 years. He was happiest spending time with his loving family and enjoyed his free time working in the yard and repairing things around the house. He was an avid fan of UCONN basketball and will be remembered by his family and friends for his kindness, generosity and humor.
Mr. Butanowicz is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Helena Januszkiewicz Butanowicz; his three devoted daughters, Elizabeth Deleon and her husband Vincent of Seymour, Donna Gomes and her husband Mickey of Milford and Melissa Bonanno and her husband Michael of Milford; grandchildren, Michael, Nicole, Matthew, Marissa, Elijah, Madison and Emma; great-grandchildren, Aisley and Tyler; and many loving brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

DePonte, Fred
Fortunato “Fred” DePonte, 86, of Orange, beloved husband of the late Marie DePonte, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2019. Fred was born on January 22, 1933, in New Haven, CT to the late Luigi and Mary DePonte.
Fred graduated from Notre Dame as valedictorian and went on to graduate from Yale. He worked as an electrical engineer at Sikorsky and Pitney Bowes, from where he retired. He was an active parishioner at Holy Infant Church and enjoyed taking walks around his neighborhood. Fred loved his family and enjoyed every moment spent with them. Fred’s family would like to thank the staff at CT Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
Fred leaves behind his daughters, Cynthia Varrone (Jay), Diane DiMauro (Dennis) and Catherine DePonte; grandchildren, Melissa Varrone, Jessica Varrone DiTroia (Jennifer), Matthew Varrone and Danielle DiMauro; and great-grandson, Gianni Fortunato DiTroia. Doyle, Henry
Henry (Harry) Doyle, age 87 of Milford, beloved husband of Sarah Young Doyle, passed away June 19, 2019 at Milford Health Care. He was born in Nitshill, Glasgow Scotland on September 25, 1931, son of the late Thomas and Mary McLoughlin Doyle. He was a veteran of the Royal Air Force. In 1970, Harry and Sarah, along with their children immigrated to the United States residing in Milford. For many years, Harry worked as a printer at Van Dyke Printing of North Haven and later worked for Connecticut Driveshaft and Caspari. He was ordained as a Deacon of the Archdiocese of Hartford on June 10, 1989, serving at St. Gabriel Parish, Milford for over 25 years. Besides his wife Sarah, he is survived by his children Frances O’Neill, and Mary Doyle of Milford, Lucia Doyle and Ann Lee of West Haven, Thomas Doyle (Laura) of Orange, and Ruth Doyle-Smart (Craig) of Ansonia, 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins both in the United States and Scotland. He was predeceased by his son’s-in-law Hugh O’Neill, Michael Greig and Morgan Lee, and his brothers Hugh, Thomas, and Michael. Dorothy C. Gaudreau, 99, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Emile J. Gaudreau, Jr., passed away peacefully at home on July 3, 2019. Dorothy was born in Fall River, MA on December 14, 1919 to Isaac and Jane Cook Glew.
Dorothy was raised in Fall River with her two sisters and three brothers. She met and married Emile in Fall River and had two children. After the war, they moved to Milford where they had their third child. She loved gardening, crocheting and word circle books. Dorothy’s family would like to thank Dr. Brunson, Dr. Oestrich, Milford Hospital Memorial 3 West, Connecticut Hospice Care and the neighbors who came into our mother’s life.

Richard Patrick Gentile, age 68, of Milford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 23, 2019 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Born in Bridgeport, Richard was the son of the late Raffaele and Josephine (Magniarini) Gentile. He attended Bullard Havens and graduated with the “Class of 1970”. Following graduation, he worked for over 30 years for Dresser Industries (Ashcroft). Richard was an avid bingo player at Our Lady of Grace Church. He also cherished spending time with his family, playing 500 rummy, rides down St. Mary’s by The Sea, watching his Oakland Raiders and spending time with his dog Sparky. Richard is survived by his two loving children, son Michael Gentile (Samantha Robledo) and daughter Ashlee Pucko (Tony Korkodilos) his former wife and best friend Deborah (Gentile) Snyder and her fiancee Andy Bykowski, father-in-law Robert Snyder, Sr., brothers-in-law John Snyder (Sandra) and Robert Grissel Snyder, Jr. Siblings Ciele Lupo (Richard), Barbara Remetta (Kim), Patrick Gentile (Susan) as well as several nieces and nephews. Maria (Marie) S. Grignano, 97, of Orange, passed away on Friday, June 21, at St. Raphael’s Hospital. Marie was born in Hamden, Sept. 25, 1921, daughter of the late Gennaro and Angelina Palmieri She was the widow of Generoso J. Grignano and the mother of Domenic Grignano of Orange. She was pre-deceased by her siblings,Yolanda Baraglia, Frank and Luigi Palmieri. Marie worked at Sargent before retiring to a full life of friends, family and enjoyment. Her interests included bowling, playing cards, bingo, attending West Haven Senior Center, crocheting and making trips to the casino. She was an exceptional cook who entertained often. While all these activities kept her active and content. Her love for the theater was one of her greatest joys. Marie was an elegant lady, fashionable and exceedingly stylish, who attended many Broadway shows. As an exceptionally devoted mother to her only child, Domenic, she offered indispensable help to him during the times he led New Haven Performing Arts Theatre and Dance Theatre Productions in New Haven. Hundreds of children remember her for being not only a talented costume maker but also a tireless supporter of theatrical performances. In addition to her devoted son, she is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Marion E. Harrison, age 85, of Milford, beloved wife of Leonard Harrison for over 50 years, died on Wednesday, June 26, 2019. Marion was born in Bridgeport on August 25, 1933 to the late George and Ida Shegg Dewey. She worked as a Nurses Aid for New England Home Care Plus of Milford for many years. Hultgren, Jane
Jane Clancy (Morm) Hultgren, age 87, of Milford, wife of the late George Hultgren, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 with her loving family by her side. Born in Bridgeport on July 16, 1931, daughter of the late Joseph and Genevieve Harold Clancy, Morm was a longtime Black Rock Bridgeport resident, moving to Fairfield in the 60’s raising her family there, ultimately moving to Milford four years ago. She had worked as an administrator for the United States Pentagon, where she met her husband George and later for the Remington Arms Co. of Bridgeport. Morm was an avid reader, she loved football especially her Dolphins and hosting family events. More than anything she loved the times that she spent with her family. She is survived by her children, daughters Carlen Hultgren of Atlanta, GA, Joanne Monroe and her partner David Heriot of Milford and son Eric Hultgren of Gainesville, GA, she leaves behind her precious grandchildren Evan Monroe and his fiancee Jenna Calderone, Asher Monroe, Korin Monroe and Cassidy Monroe, great-grandchildren Tanner George Monroe and Claire Josephine Monroe, a sister Lois Walsh of Fairfield as well as many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her brother Joseph Clancy, brother-in-law Edward Walsh and sister in law Nodie Clancy. Kiernan, Walter J.
Walter J. Kiernan, age 22, of Milford, beloved son of Walter G. Kiernan and Mary Ellen Harriman, died on Tuesday, June 25, 2019. Walter was born in Milford on July 26, 1996. He graduated from Jonathan Law High School and was currently working for Stevens Ford Auto Group as a car prep detailer. Walter was a car enthusiast and loved the New York Mets and Minnesota Vikings. He was an avid bass guitar player and was enjoying learning how to play golf with his father. Walter was taken from this life too soon and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his brother, Kevin Harriman and sister, Courtney Kiernan of Milford; uncles, Artie Harriman of Branford and Randy Harriman, James Kiernan and Patrick Kiernan, all of Milford and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Walter was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Anne Kiernan, aunts, Mary Elizabeth Kiernan and Terri Harriman and uncle, Brian Harriman.

Elizabeth M. Malady, age 97 of Milford, beloved wife of the late William Malady, passed away July 4, 2019 at Milford Hospital. Elizabeth was born in New York, NY on August 7, 1921, daughter of the late Frederick and Elizabeth Gannon DeLeary. Elizabeth worked as an Assistant City Clerk for the City of Milford for 25 years until her retirement and also was a volunteer at the Woodmont Library for over 20 years. She was a member of Gateway Christian Fellowship Church of West Haven and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 196 of Milford. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, and reading. She is survived by her son Dan Malady and his wife Gail, her grandchildren Michelle Chinova, Zane Malady and his wife Gina, and Faith Daniels and her husband William, 11 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband William, she was predeceased by her granddaughter Nicole Malady, her great-granddaughter Lisa Chinova, her brother Frederick DeLeary Jr., and her sisters Irene McTernan (her twin sister), Lillian Lange, and Dorothy McGeehan. Mettler, Dorothy Ann
Dorothy Ann Mettler, longtime resident of Hamden and Milford, entered into eternal rest on July 2, 2019. Daughter of the late Robert A. Mettler and Helen Evelyn Barrett Mettler, she graduated from Albertus Magnus College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classics and English Literature. Dorothy had a long and successful career with the New Haven District Office of the Department of Labor, where she held supervisory and managerial positions for over 20 years.
Dorothy’s father died unexpectedly when she was only three months of age. Her first years were spent with her mother and Mettler grandparents. She later lived with her grandmother Barrett and her Uncles Tom and John who became her substitute fathers. During these early years, she spent considerable time with her extended family of cousins. She was very close with her cousins Barbara Doody Holland and Lydia Doody Waterhouse, who were like sisters to her.
Dorothy was an extraordinary woman who lived her long life with dignity and grace. She was always gentle, good-humored and smiling. She was a beloved daughter, dedicated niece, cherished aunt, loyal friend and kind neighbor. After her Uncle Tom lost his voice to cancer, she cared for him for over 26 years until his death. Dorothy’s dedication and devotion to her mother was exemplary. They lived together their entire lives and Dorothy was her sole care-giver, guardian and best friend. Dorothy leaves behind the extended Mettler family, as well as her dear nieces Lydia, Ginny, Megan, Heidi, Gretchen and Sarah.
The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to the fine doctors, nurses, and staff at Milford Hospital and at Evergreen Woods Health Center. Thank you to all of the fine aides from Helping Hands Caring Hearts. Extraordinary thanks and gratitude are extended to Dorothy’s good friends, helpful neighbors, and in particular Dorothy’s dear friend Mike.

Barbara Mott, 80, of Milford, formerly of Orange, passed away peacefully with her family present on June 29, 2019 at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was born on December 18, 1938 in Englewood, NJ. She worked both as a service representative for the phone company and in customer relations at Colonial Bank in West Haven. Barbara’s interests included playing cards with friends, reading and computer games. Barbara raised two daughters, Corinne Yocher of Orange and Sharon Donovan of Cheshire and has six grandchildren. Her joy was caring for her young grandchildren and cheering them on at their sporting events. Barbara is also survived by her two sisters, Stephanie Martucci of Orange and Beverly Ulman of St. Augustine, FL. Pallentino, Anna G.
Anna Pallentino, 92, entered into enteral rest with her loving family and her West River family by her side, on June 12, 2019 at her home, West River Health Care in Milford. Anna was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 19, 1926 and moved to Bella Vista in New Haven, CT after she retired in 1996. Anna was first a tailor, and then a manager of a clothing manufacturing plant when New York City was the center of industry. She was a world traveler visiting countries in Europe and the Middle East. Later in life, she became a well-known and inspirational Why Weight lecturer. She had a passion for nursing the sick and teaching her skills. Anna never married and never had her own children, yet over 100 children in four generations call her “Nanny”. Anna had a way to calm the troubled young soul and give just the right encouragement. Her arms were always open for a rejuvenating hug. She will live on in the hearts of all she has touched in her almost 93 years. Anna’s parents Elena (Sicondolfi) and Patrick Pallentino, Sister Irene Bologna and Brother Robert Cangliosi predeceased her. Patricia A. Rauscher, age 80 of Milford, beloved wife of the late Robert Rauscher, passed away June 15, 2019. She was born in Bridgeport, December 29, 1938, daughter of the late Edward and Ann Greenwood Fitzgerald. She worked as a home health aide for Visiting Nurse Association for many years until her retirement. She is survived by her beloved daughter Ann Benway, her beloved grandchildren Erica and Robert Benway, and family friend Wayne Bossie. Roberts, Diane
Diane Roberts, 62, of Milford, died June 30 2019 at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was born on March 9, 1957 in Jamaica Queens, New York to Anthony and Mary Costa.
She is survived by her husband of over 35 years of marriage John Douglas Roberts. Diane has left behind her son, Daniel Roberts, stepson Kristofer Roberts, brother Anthony Costa, and sister Linda Saggese.
Diane was a professional in the automotive industry for over 25 years. Most of her career has been as an executive assistant and customer relations manager at Toyota of Wallingford. She is leaving behind a close knit of friends and family at Toyota of Wallingford and will be missed by all. To lay tribute to Diane and the many lives she touched, a symbol will be embroidered on every employee’s shirt.
Diane loved going to the beach and her family. She was such a fun and loving soul and changed many lives for the good through her kind words and understanding. If you knew Diane for 10 minutes or 10 years you could see the way she would light up a room with her contagious laugh and caring personality. She would not want us to weep for her but to celebrate her in the ways she celebrated living. She was an amazing person inside and out and will live on forever in all of us. She has a lot of close friends and family and this wonderful soul will be missed by many but hardly forgotten.

Saley, John W.
John “Jack” W. Saley, age 87, of Milford, beloved husband of the late Lucia Sullivan Saley, died on Monday, June 24, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Bridgeport on November 2, 1931 to the late Michael and Anna Kaiser Saley. He was a proud United States Marine Corps Veteran and was honorably discharged in 1952 as a sergeant. Jack was the owner and founder of “John Saley Contracting” in Milford for over 40 years. He was a man of few words and loved his family unconditionally. Survivors include his children: Michael Saley (Jean), Carol Tynes (Larry), Robert Saley (Sharon), Kathleen Plaskon (Dave), William Saley (Kathy), Christopher Saley (Cheryl) and John Saley (Lisa), 17 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his son, Joseph Saley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 29th at 9:30 am in Saint Gabriel Church (Saint Raphael Parish), 26 Broadway, Milford. Agnes M. Siwy (Olfzewski) Sederkowics, age, 88, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Henry Olfzewski and Stanley Sederkowics, died Wednesday, June 26, 2019 in Bridgeport. Mrs. Sederkowics was born in Bridgeport the daughter of the late Walter and Gertrude Siwy, she was a lifelong area resident. She was retired from Perkin Elmer Company as an Electronics assembler. Agnes was a former member of the Moose Lodge, she enjoyed, reading, cooking and doing word search puzzles. In addition to her husbands and parents she was predeceased by two daughters, Linda Thompson, Veronica Bryant, a grandson Tommy Thompson, and a sister Janet Bornyak. She is survived by her children, Henry Olfzewski and his wife Cecilia, of Milford, Walt Olfzewski, of NH and Stanley Sederkowics of Bridgeport, and one daughter, Martha Potts of Fairfield. Nine loving and adoring grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend a Graveside service on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the Mt. Marion B. Tweedie, age 85, of Milford passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 30, 2019 in Milford Hospital with her family by her side. She was born on November 15, 1933 in Stratford to the late Otto and Irene Hakett Hiitt. An active member of the community, she was a member of the Women’s Fellowship of the First United Church of Christ, Congregational and the Red Hats of Milford. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she is survived by her sons James Tweedie (Kathleen Smith) of Milford and William Tweedie (Donna Marie) of Houston, TX, seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband Dana B. Tweedie, son Dana M. Tweedie, and sisters Valarie George and Jeannette Prue. Weiss, Charles George
Charles George Weiss died peacefully in his home on June 8, 2019 in Milford, CT, after a short illness. He was 86. Mr. Weiss was born in Brooklyn, NY, to Charles and Katharine (Ott) Weiss. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Brooklyn College in 1953. He received his Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Rensalaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, NY) in 1958. Mr. Weiss served in the U.S. Army at Aberdeen, MD, from 1954-1956. He married Cynthia Bruchac in 1956. Mr. Weiss’s career in quality control engineering spanned 60 years, and he continued to work part-time until last year. The Weisses also lived in Ohio, New Jersey and Connecticut. Born to Swiss immigrant parents, Mr. Weiss was proudest of his education, and successful career, that he married his dearly loved wife, and raised 7 children with her. Mr. Weiss is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Randall and Amy Weiss, and Christopher and Nina Weiss; daughters and sons-in-law, Paula and Bruce Gallay; Susanna and Merrill Sammis; and Linda and Michael Jordan; his sister Mrs. Janet Hulme of Herndon, VA; 14 grandchildren and 6 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Cynthia, his son Kevin Charles Weiss, and his daughter Kimberly Weiss Rotondi. Mr. Weiss will be honored by family in a private interment and memorial. His remains will be interred at King’s Highway Cemetery, Milford, CT in the same plot as his late wife and his late son.
