Her memory will be cherished by her family including her son Arthur (Laura), daughters Vicki (Bela), and Christine, her beloved granddaughter Rose and her brother Michael D’Angelo (Jo-Ann) of Newtown CT. She will also be missed by other family members – nieces, nephews and close family friends. Victoria was predeceased by her sister Elizabeth Costello of Portchester NY.

A graduate of A.B. Davis HIgh School, Victoria began her professional career in New York City at Union Carbide followed by a lifelong career at The Horolovar Clock Company in Bronxville NY. Victoria was known for her organization and planning skills (almost to a fault), keen wordsmithing skills (her 2 favorite books were the dictionary and thesaurus), and her addiction to all things “office supplies.”

On a fateful day in 1959 at the Jersey Shore, Victoria met the love of her life, Arthur. They started a family and moved from Brooklyn to Mount Vernon. She was an over achiever who balanced many work hours, keeping a busy house organized, attending countless school sporting events and spending long summer days at Jones Beach watching the sunrise and sunset.

Victoria was a perfectionist (the good kind.) Her sense of humor unmatched, her story telling, legendary. She loved music and to dance; especially the Lindy with her sister and the Twist with her brother. She was supportive, dedicated, loyal, committed and loving. She was unforgettable and brought both strength and wit to this world. The wonderful memories that Victoria created will be carried on by all of those who knew her.

On behalf of the family, a special thank you is extended to Carriage Green Assisted Living of Milford for their kindness, caring services and genuine friendship that they offered Victoria for her 8 years living there. She enjoyed countless activities, live music gatherings, and was treated superbly by everyone from the aids, nursing, kitchen staff, housekeeping, administrative staff, activities specialists, etc. Another thank you is extended to Caring Hospice for the skill and dignity in which they cared for our beloved matriarch during her final days.

Gail Arnold Meeson Elker

Gail Arnold Meeson Elker (nee Spooner) passed peacefully on May 25, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 7, 1938 and was raised in East Douglas Massachusetts, the daughter of Dr. Raymond H. and Kathleen C. Spooner. Growing up, she liked to ride along in the car when her father, the only town doctor, went on house calls so that she could spend time with him, often reading a book in the car while he was with patients. She loved to draw and paint, mostly horses, and was thrilled when her father bought her a horse, Gypsy, when she was 14 years old. She graduated valedictorian of her high school and then went to Middlebury College in Vermont where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in biology and met John H. Meeson, who she married in the summer of her junior year. They lived in New Jersey for a few years, and had two sons, Daniel W. Meeson and John H. Meeson Jr. When the boys were six and three years old, the family moved to Orange, CT and 3 years later, the boys’ father left the family and Gail became a single parent who was both strong and loving.

She was a dedicated mother, working part time to provide for her children while also being actively involved in their upbringing – as a den mother in Scouts and teaching Sunday School where they went to church. She met Bradford H. Elker when they were both helping install a pipe organ at church and, after a long courtship, they were married in 1986. They had a loving and happy marriage, traveling extensively in the U.S. and Europe to view pipe organs – a joint passion of theirs. They went on many other trips with favorite destinations including Israel, a safari in South Africa, and an annual trip to Pemaquid Point, ME, always bringing her dog.

She went back to school to earn her Masters degree in Counseling from the University of Bridgeport graduating in 1994 with a 3.91 GPA as a member of Phi-Kappa-Phi honor society.

Gail’s children and grandchildren were her greatest joy in life and both she and Brad poured time, love, and energy into maintaining these important relationships with family and friends. She was a strong, born again Christian and member of both Orange Congregational Church and Messianic Jewish congregation, Simchat Yisrael. Gail volunteered at the Beth El soup kitchen for years and spread joy to others through her musical talent as a member of both her church choir and Pitchpipers. She was also a member of the OCC bell choir. Gail also loved animals, especially horses, dogs, and cats. Besides the horse she had in high school, she had a retired race horse in her back yard in Orange, and over the years, several different breeds of dogs and many cats.

Besides her parents, Gail was predeceased by her husband, Bradford H. Elker, her first husband, John H. Meeson, and a dear sister-in-law Susan B. Spooner. She is survived by her son John H. Meeson Jr. and his wife Dawn P. Meeson, their sons Eric John Meeson and Kevin John Meeson to whom she was their beloved “Nana,” her son Daniel W. Meeson and his wife Suzanne D. Lampe, as well as younger brothers Raymond H. Spooner and Jonathan F. Spooner, his wife Laurie Spooner, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Gail was a devout Christian and is now forever with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Services will be Thursday June 6th at Orange Congregational Church, 205 Meetinghouse Lane, Orange. Calling hours will be 4:00-6:00 downstairs in the Fellowship Hall. The memorial service will begin upstairs at 6:00 in the Church Proper.

In lieu of flowers please make a contribution to a charity that you know was important to her.

Irma Venosta Heiter

Irma (Ela) Venosta Heiter, 93, of Milford, passed away peacefully with her family by her side in her home, on May 9, 2024. She was born in General Pico, La Pampa, Argentina on May 25, 1930–the same day as her late husband, Eugenio Guillermo Heiter, who was born in Neustadt, Germany. They were married for 53 years before his passing.

Irma is the daughter of the late Antonio Venosta and Rosario (Elvira) Lobos Escudero de Venosta. Irma’s father was born in Italy. Although her father passed when Irma was only six, he left a lasting impression on her life. Irma’s mother worked hard to support them both after Antonio’s death. Irma believed that she and her mom made it through difficult times because of her mother’s determination, help from her mom’s family, and an enduring promise of protection from the Virgin of Lourdes.

Irma is survived by her four devoted children and their spouses, eight grandchildren, and loving relatives throughout the U.S., Europe, and Argentina–all of whom were so special to her.

Irma’s love for children, teaching, and learning led to a 50 year career as an educator. She began her teaching career in Buenos Aires, continued in Yonkers, N.Y., and concluded in New Haven, CT where she was a Kindergarten teacher in the Bilingual Program at Hill Central School. She spent the last 30 years of her professional career in the bilingual program in New Haven. Teaching was a calling that brought her tremendous joy.

A lifelong learner, Irma pursued and received a Master’s Degree in education from the University of Connecticut. Irma’s excellence as an educator was recognized and she was the recipient of several teacher appreciation awards, which she accepted with humility and grace. Noteworthy, is her 1990 New Haven Bar Association Liberty Bell Award. The Liberty Bell Award acknowledges the awardee’s sense of community service and dedication to civic responsibilities. Irma humbly shares this award with several notable past recipients. Other New Haven Bar Association Liberty Bell Award winners include George Herbert Walker Bush, American philanthropist Paul Mellon, and Yale University’s past president and 7th Commissioner of Major League Baseball, Bart Giamatti among others. Most noteworthy and treasured by Irma is the respect and gratitude she received from her students and colleagues. So many of these special individuals have taken the time to share their beautiful and heartfelt memories about Irma’s kindness, generosity, presence, and support during their lives.

Following her retirement from public school teaching, Irma continued to educate and support those around her with her wisdom about things that matter. Retirement also afforded her the gift of time to devote to her gardening, grandchildren, and travel. Unbeknownst to Irma, a trip to Argentina just 4 months before her passing, allowed her to bid farewell to beloved sites and people.

The Irma we know loved to clean, cook, host holidays, garden and wear warm, soft cashmere sweaters. However, the most important thing to know about Irma is her devotion to the God she loved with all her being. From the young age of 6 and throughout her life, she was influenced, amazed by, and drawn to all things spiritual: both the divine and the human. She prioritzed her soul’s health and held that more significant than anything material. Irma was blessed to attend  schools where good people of strong faith taught her how to invite the Holy Spirit to work through her. She sought her strength from the most powerful source–the Eucharist. She gently, but passionately, engaged in God’s work with her daily actions instead of words. In Argentina, her priest opened his doors to give her the Eucharist before all her high school and college exams. She later received communion daily at morning Mass before going to work. She never missed receiving It on Sundays, whether home or on vacation. Since making her first holy communion, she relied on the bread of life for her remaining 86 years. When Irma’s beloved neighbor, Jean Coleman, a St. Agnes Eucharistic Minister, passed, Irma was prompted to continue Jean’s mission. Under Father Callahan’s guidance, she became a Eucharistic minister for St. Agnes. Her grandchildren loved to find “her spot” at church so they could receive the body of Christ from their grandma – along with a special wink. Her inner joy just smiled through her eyes!

Irma was always so grateful for the people who God put in her path to help her. She transformed this gratitude into a mission of love. She used that love to serve, support, pray for, or in some small and quiet way help someone in need. Irma reflected and meditated frequently on the miracle of her life and her faith–faith that could move mountains.

Irma will forever be remembered as a devoted daughter, wife, sister-in-law, mother, aunt, godmother, grandmother, educator, colleague, neighbor, trusted confidant who never revealed secrets or gossiped, and a prayer warrior whose protection will be greatly missed. Irma never prayed for herself, but unselfishly remembered and prayed for others. Her family asks that even though she would never expect it, that we remember and pray for her now and always.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of one of the charities Irma loved would be greatly appreciated. Her favorites include: Office of Radio and Television (ORTV) for televised masses since these provided her with the opportunity to attend mass from home and receive communion spiritually later in her life (special thanks to to Father Gatzack for his wonderfully inspiring sermons); Her parish, Precious Blood Parish; The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA); Mouth and Foot Painting Artists; the National Shrine of the Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, Massachusetts ; The American Heart Association; or The American Lung Association.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 12:30 p.m. at Saint Agnes Church, 400 Merwin Ave., Milford (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH). Interment will follow at Milford Cemetery, 35 Gulf St., Milford.

Jane found joy in simple pleasures: reading a good book, sitting by the water, and admiring beautiful flowers. She delighted in dinners and trips with friends, shopping, and new adventures. Yet, her greatest joy, however, came from spending time with her family and celebrating her children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments. Whether cheering on her grandchildren at dance performances, swim meets, sports games, or celebrating their academic achievements, Jane was always there, showing her unwavering love and proud support.

In her later years, Jane together with her loving husband Edward, found great joy in escaping the winter by heading to Naples, FL. Christina Lynn Hey

Christina “Chris” Lynn Hey, 61, of Milford, was a loving daughter, mother, sister, and friend. She passed away suddenly on May 6, 2024. Born on May 4, 1963 in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of Barbara Holcomb and the late Raleigh B. Holcomb Jr.

Chris had a happy childhood growing up in Fairfield with her parents and 4 siblings. You could always find her with a smile on a swing, in the pool or with one of 5 cats or the dog. After graduating Roger Ludlow High School, she attended Sacred Heart University. Chris started her working life in the travel industry (which was funny since she really didn’t like to travel) and then went on to be a property manager/purchasing agent and then purchasing/payroll specialist. For the last 15 years, she worked for Wenncon in Bridgeport and loved her job and the people she worked with.

Chris and John Hey were married from 1985-2003. Together they had a son, Timmy—who was the love of her life and daily joy. There is no doubt she was a proud mama that would move heaven and earth for her son and animals (Zoey and Jazie). Although divorced, Chris and John stayed good friends and together built a loving family with Timmy.

She was a loving and caring daughter and sister that was always there with a smile to help, lend an ear, have a laugh or organize an event. (She loved organizing…)

There wasn’t an animal she didn’t love. In addition to her son, her life revolved around her pets. Toys, toys, toys…. special foods, blankets, vacations, even a pool to swim in—Chris would do whatever it took to ensure her dogs and cats were loved, had fun, and were well-taken care of.

Her favorite hobby was cooking which she mainly learned from her mother-in-law, Pearl. She had recipes everywhere and spent most of her time in the kitchen making delicious food (pepperoni bread, chili, pizza, mac and cheese, cakes, something with garden fresh tomatoes, Jello..) to bring to a family event or have on hand for Timmy’s friends who frequently gathered at her home. (They even called her 2nd mom and came to visit her when Timmy wasn’t even there!)

Chris learned to love gardening from her mom and especially loved old fashioned roses with beautiful fragrance. Other loves included vacations, swimming, going to the beach, and having a drink relaxing in the hot tub. Many may not know that she was a gifted photographer and if she had time, took amazing photographs.

Chris was so outgoing and lived her life quickly making friends and connecting with people wherever she went. Her smile, easy laugh, warmth, kindness, and twinkle in her eye will always stay in our hearts.

Chris is survived by her son, Timothy Hey (Melissa Alfaro); siblings, Elizabeth (Mark) Bogues, Victoria Holcomb, and Raleigh B. Holcomb III; nieces and nephews, Shannon, Dennis, Raleigh B. IV, Vanessa, Luke, Nate, and Riley; former husband, John Hey; her beloved pets, Jasmine, and Zoey; and many extended family and good friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Constance Pough.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. for a Celebration of Life at the Black Rock Church, 3685 Black Rock Tpke, Fairfield, CT 06825.
