Mark lived an exceptional and blessed life surrounded not just by family who loved him, but many of you, his beloved customers, who became like family!
Mark was one of 8 children. His mother, Victoria Wahnicki, and father, Marko Filanowski, were polish immigrants. They bought the family Farm in the early 1900’s. In those times, they farmed the fields growing an array of fruits and vegetables that they would either truck and sell in Bronx, NY or at the Farm Fruit stand located for many years on Bridgeport Ave.

Filanowski farm is 5 generations strong, and we will continue to build upon his legacy!

He also loved antiquing and shopping at Mardens with his wife Joan over the years and became quite the collector of things! If Gramp’s house didn’t have what you needed, you probably didn’t need it that bad after all. Mark was beyond loved by his whole family and all who knew him.
Mark is survived by his five beloved children: Joanne Filanowski Stonona, Barbara Filanowski Gladue, MaryAnn Filanowski, Teresa Filanowski Kristopik (Paul), and Jacqueline Filanowski Allen (Anthony). Dorothy Montano Keefe, 75, passed away peacefully with her loving family around her on February 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and unstoppable spirit.
Dorothy was the beating heart of every room she entered—warm, vivacious, and endlessly generous. Her five cherished grandchildren—Clara, Teagan, John, Alice, and Paddy—were the lights of her life. She is now reunited with her brother William “Billy” Montano, her brothers-in-law, Buddy and Bob, and her mother Catherine.
Dorothy’s strength and determination were well known. After marrying in 1975, she spent nine long years praying and hoping to become a mother—a testament to her fighting spirit which she had her whole life through her final moments. Dorothy was a lifelong Connecticut resident, attending Hamden High School and going on to be an operating room nurse for several years.
A natural host, Dorothy could turn any gathering into a celebration. She lived for the joy of togetherness, never missing an opportunity to throw a party, especially on her two favorite holidays—Christmas and the Fourth of July. If there was music, she was dancing. If there was laughter, she was at the center of it. Her faith was the foundation of everything she did, from attending daily Mass to leading weekly prayer groups in her home. She also put her faith into action, serving as a Eucharistic minister and volunteering with the “Midnight Run” to bring food and care to the homeless in New Haven—often taking along her children to help. Her unwavering belief in the power of prayer uplifted many, and her devotion is credited with the success and well-being of countless loved ones.

Nicknamed Nipper by his Irish grandmother Molly, he grew up in Fairfield where he attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School. He enjoyed a childhood filled with dear memories of creating chaos and laughter with his legendary Henderson Road friends from the Dailey, Simmons and Carroll families. Playing basketball at Wakeman, caddying at CCF and family vacations to Fire Island with his parents and siblings were among his fondest memories.
A proud 1972 graduate of Fairfield Prep, Nip excelled at basketball and was active in Prep’s alumni network throughout his life. His basketball skills led him to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with an athletic scholarship, where he graduated with a degree in Accounting in 1976.
While at Fairfield Prep, Nip was introduced to Patty, the love of his life. Nip and Patty created a beautiful life centered around their love, their faith, their family and dearest friends. Nip was a big presence and influence in the lives of many who befriended and loved him, especially his role as a beloved grandfather. He coached and encouraged his children’s academic, athletic and individual interests. Most of all, his greatest joy was watching each of his children grow into adulthood and witness their love and support for one another.
Through his sharp math mind and quick Irish wit, Nip enjoyed a successful sales career with clothing brands such as Nautica and Izod, among others. Nip was an avid NY Giants fan (in good times and bad) and he found great pleasure in the simple moments of life: a round of golf, fishing Milford’s beaches, cooking up a new recipe, enjoying an ice-cold martini, riding the ocean waves at LBI, or reading a good book.
He was generous in all facets of his life. Nip savored social gatherings at their home on Founders Way or at the Milford Yacht Club with lots of laughter and storytelling. He made sure there was always plenty of good food, flowing drinks and great friends gathered. Through his volunteer efforts and board service in later years, Nip enjoyed helping to fight local food insecurity through the non-profit Milford Food 2 Kids.
In his last few years, Nip embraced the opportunities to vacation, travel, celebrate family weddings, swim meets, baptisms and make many other lasting memories. Those times will be cherished by all who loved him due to his outstanding medical care, courage and Patty’s enduring love. Nip’s family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to his doctors, nurses, nursing aides and the countless people met along the way at Yale’s Smilow Cancer Hospital – Mr. O thanks you all. Their expertise and compassionate care (and let’s be honest, patience of Nip’s antics) helped him to make the most of his life in later years and fight the good fight to the end.
