Timothy Joseph Attolino Sr.
Timothy Joseph Attolino, Sr., 62 of Milford, died on April 26 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his dedicated wife of 31 years, Patrice (McCarthy); his son, Timothy J. Attolino, Jr.; his daughter, Katie; four brothers, James, his twin Mark, David (Karin) and Jeffrey; nieces and nephews, Zach (Allison), Alex (Matt), Gabby, David, Matthew, Lindsey (Paolo) and Dylan; grand nieces and nephews; the extended McCarthy family and cherished friends.
A prolific artist, chef, fisherman, Dead Head, golfer, and vegetable gardener, he was always busy pursuing creative endeavors. His art work was often custom-made for friends, family and charitable organizations. Jerry Garcia and other Grateful Dead icons, Scrabble tiles, shells, birds and caricatures were hallmarks of his art. His last drawings, done in the hospital, were amazing caricatures of Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo, gifts for a doctor.
Born in Milford, Tim was the son of the late Joan and James V. Attolino, and grandson of the late Joseph and Anna Vincent, and Jean and James V. Attolino, Sr. Growing up, he played a variety of sports, including football with the Woodmont Packers and basketball with the Gromart Knicks, among others. He graduated from Foran High School where he played football and basketball, then attended Saint Anselm College in Goffstown, NH. He was an owner and chef of the former Ship’s Wheel Restaurant in Milford. He worked for Commercial Furniture for the past 25 years.
Known for the twinkle in his eyes, humor and gift of gab, Tim clearly loved making people smile. He had great times on beaches in Woodmont, Rhode Island, Aruba and Nantucket with Patrice, Timmy, Katie and friends, and practicing cartwheels there. He played the guitar and loved going to concerts with his brothers, friends and family. He had fun fishing on his kayak and riding his moped around Woodmont. He coached Timmy and Katie’s sports teams over the years and he volunteered for and donated art to several organizations, including Special Olympics and Smilow Cancer Hospital. Tim’s generosity spanned across Milford, as he loved sharing his time and artwork with fundraisers and organizations in his hometown. He relished lobster rolls, falafel, and peanut butter and jelly.
The family is appreciative of the care and compassion doctors, nurses and aides at St. Vincent’s gave Tim and for their empathetic and informative interactions with family members. Tim quickly befriended hospital staff members during his stay.

Shirley Balascak
Shirley Balascak, age 90, of Milford, CT, loving wife of the late Michael Balascak and loving mother to Karen Balascak, Mark Balascak and his wife Kathleen Brandon, was called home to the Lord on April 20, 2024. She was predeceased by her sister Barbara Fedele and is survived by step grandsons Adam and Jonathan Brandon, nephew Thomas Galatie and faithful life-long friends Noreen Baxter and Shirley McCormick.
Born in Bridgeport, CT to the late Marion Knott and Joseph Shaffer, Shirley was a 1952 graduate of Stratford High School where she met the love of her life Michael, whom she married in 1955. She worked for the U.S. Navy office on the Nautilus submarine program while Michael served in the Navy, retiring upon his discharge to become the best mother anyone could ask for.
Shirley was a member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine church in Trumbull since marriage, a member and former president of the Mothers & Daughters Auxiliary, a church trustee and a volunteer for the Red Cross blood bank.
She was the epitome of kindness, compassion, support, charity and love of others; caring for elderly neighbors, children and everyone who needed a hand or word; always putting others needs before her own and making lifelong sacrifices, especially for her beloved family. Shirley was well known for her generosity and treasured acts of kindness: faithfully tracking everyone’s birthdays and life events; writing inspiring and heartfelt notes and letters of friendship, sympathy, encouragement – whatever was needed – tucking small monetary gifts into children’s cards, supporting friends and even strangers, donating to charities and food to the St. Gabriel Food Pantry. Shirley lived the Lord’s Golden Rule (Luke 6:31) and made everyone who knew her feel loved and special.
She gave from her heart until there was nothing left to give.
Greeting everyone with kind words and a smile, making frequent telephone calls, or simply listening to others’ life situations, Shirley made everyone she touched a happier, better person. She did simple things extraordinarily well. Shirley was a voracious reader and enjoyed sharing books with friends and the Little Free Libraries around town. In her later years Shirley enjoyed feeding her birds and squirrels and took pleasure in their daily antics.
She knew she was blessed and appreciated all of God’s grace and will be missed by all of those who knew her. Our earthly loss is heaven’s gain.
Donations in Shirley’s name can be made to St. John the Baptist Byzantine Church 100 St. Johns Drive Trumbull, CT 06611 or the Alzheimer’s Association Connecticut Chapter 200 Executive Blvd S #4b, Southington, CT 06489

Denise Carroll
Denise J. Carroll, 57, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Raymond T. Carroll, passed away at her home on April 18, 2024. Born on August 7, 1966 in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of Peter J. Dirga and the late Sharon K. Dirga.
Denise grew up in Milford, CT and after high school was employed for years as a Bookkeeper and General Office Manager for Mercury Communications in Stratford, CT. Upon the birth of her three beloved children, she transitioned to a stay-at-home Mother, creating a warm and loving environment in which they would grow. Denise was a homebody at heart and loved to entertain family and friends. She and Ray threw many parties and gatherings, and her meals were legendary. There was always way too much food to go around.
Denise was very kind and generous, and that kindness was embraced by the animal kingdom. She had cats and dogs and numerous pets through the years. She fed squirrels and birds off her back deck. Most of her pets would seemingly find her, showing up at her house or the houses of her parents, family or friends and she would always take them in, nurturing them back to health. She once bottle fed a tiny stray kitten that grew healthy and still lives in her home with her 3 boys.
She was a science fiction lover and anyone who knew her, knows of the endless hours she spent watching Ancient Aliens, fascinated by the possibilities of the universe and the mysteries that lay within.
She loved nature and being outdoors and spent much of her time when able in the 2nd home she and Ray shared in Vermont, jokingly referred to by friends as “Carroll Mountain”. A lovely place where she spent time enjoying nature, the peace and quiet and beautiful scenery it provided. She often got up close views of the wildlife there and couldn’t have been happier for it.
Denise will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew and loved her. We will take some measure of comfort knowing that the faith that she relied on throughout her life, both in good times and bad, will bring her everlasting peace.
Along with her father, Denise is survived by her sons, Michael, Jonathan, and Andrew Carroll; sister, Michelle (Richard) Murphy; siblings-in-law, Frank J.
