Fitzmaurice, Judith Elizabeth & Daniel Moore

Judith Elizabeth Fitzmaurice, 80, and Daniel Moore Fitzmaurice, 81, of Milford, both passed away peacefully surrounded by their entire family. Judy passed away on October 16, 2021 and Dan passed away three days later on October 19, 2021, wanting to be with the love of his life. Judy was born on December 21, 1940 in Bridgeport, CT. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ann Thibault. Dan was born on October 08, 1940 in Bridgeport, CT. He was the son of the late Raymond and Mary Fitzmaurice.

Judy and Dan were beloved parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. Their incredible love created an immense bond that held their family together and made them all so close. Their love story will forever be a favorite of all that knew them. Judy and Dan’s love started in the 1950s at a carnival, in which Judy was there with her fiancé of 4 years. Judy really wanted to ride the rollercoaster at the time, but her fiancé did not. Dan overhead this conversation and quickly stepped in to ask if he could take her. As they say, the rest is history. Their incredible love only grew from there. They went on to create a beautiful life together, having 3 amazing kids, 8 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. All that knew them could see the love the two of them shared simply by the way they looked at each other. In his final days, Dan described Judy by saying “She just glows. She is so beautiful.” Their love is one most only dream of.

Dan worked as an iron worker his entire career, retiring in 1999. He worked alongside many of his family members during those times. Dan also used to drive a Mr. Softee’s ice cream truck and his three kids have fond memories of meeting him at the truck every day to get their free ice cream and to see their Dad. Judy spent her career helping others through her nursing registry, A-1 Nursing. They both had so much pride in what they did. They were both very competitive people. They spent many nights playing card games, Rummikub, Scrabble, and UpWords. Dan would even give out ‘free game wins’ to Judy for her birthday. They just loved being together going to the casino, eating at their favorite pizza places in New Haven, going to the Melting Pot, or just enjoying their dinner together in front of the TV watching their favorite show, Judge Judy. Dan and Judy were inseparable.

Judy and Dan enjoyed nothing more than spending time with their family. One of their favorite memories to talk about was their family vacations to Myrtle Beach with their three kids and their spouses and all eight of their grandchildren. They both would do anything for their family. Dan enjoyed woodworking and would make puzzles, birdhouses, and even personalized stools for each of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Judy loved to bake and would often bake with her grandchildren anytime they came over. Every holiday was spent with their entire family, surrounded around their kitchen table. Nothing brought them more joy or pride than their family.

Judy and Dan are survived by their three children, Tami (Bob) Collins, Lori (Hank) Zimmerman, and Daniel (Lisa) Fitzmaurice. They were also survived by their eight grandchildren, Ashley (John) Heaphy, Amanda Zimmerman, Chris (Nicole) Collins, Daniel (Stephanie) Fitzmaurice, Kelly (Steven) Bainer, Amanda (Matthew) Ferrucci, Ryan (Nicole) Zimmerman, and Kyle (Zoie) Fitzmaurice. They are also survived by their ten incredible great-grandchildren; as well as their sisters, Ellen Byrne, Debbie Orzechowski, Robin (George) DiPasquale, Michele (Pat) Thibault and Kathy Thibault; brothers, Art (Barbara) Thibault and Mark (Linda) Thibault; brother-in-law, Dick Mitchell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

They are preceded in death by their brother, Dennis Powers; sister-in-law, Erika Powers; sister, Maryann Mitchell; sister, Pat Jankovsky; and brother-in-law, Frank Orzechowski.

Sempsrott, Bud

On Sunday, September 26th, 2021 Duane (Bud) Charles Sempsrott, loving husband, father and grandfather went home to be with the Lord at the age of 72 in his home in Middletown, Connecticut. Although his passing was unexpected, it was peaceful and for this we are grateful.

Bud was born in Lebanon, Ohio in 1949 to Robert and Helen Sempsrott. He graduated from Lebanon High School and then attended Anderson College in Indiana where soon after he met his beloved wife, Polly, of almost 47 years. Together, they raised three children and have delighted in eight grandchildren.

During his college and early marriage years he traveled throughout the country playing bass guitar and singing back up in a gospel band called the Fishermen. During this time he witnessed hundreds of people giving their lives to the Lord and miraculous evidence of God’s faithfulness which provided a multitude of stories that have inspired many. In wider travels he enjoyed a trip to the Holy Lands and Greece, documenting his travels through photography, a hobby he enjoyed.

Bud provided for his family with his good work ethic and benefited every employer with his attention to detail and problem-solving skills. After obtaining his Associate in Science Ophthalmic Design and Dispensing in 2009 from Middlesex Community College he became a valued team member of opticians at Costco in Milford, CT for twelve years before retiring.

In his early twenties he began to anticipate the joy being a grandparent would bring. Naturally, he excelled in this role leaving a myriad of treasured memories with the grandchildren.

With a combination of ingenuity and hard work Bud faithfully and gladly served those around him. This gift of servanthood was exemplified in the three decades he served his local churches as a deacon, but was just as evident in the day to day life at home with family and neighbors. Humility and faithfulness permeated all of his interactions, but first and foremost in his relationship with his Heavenly Father. He first put his trust in Jesus Christ at a young age and continued to walk closely with the Lord through the years resulting in wisdom, godly character and a legacy that will be treasured by future generations.

Bud was preceded in death by his father, Robert and mother, Helen, and is survived by his wife, Polly, his three children, Joanna, Mark and Lindsey, his three brothers, Wayne (Diane), Karl (Leslie), Ralph (MaryEileen), eight grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. at Christ Church Fellowship, 649 Bank Street, Waterbury, CT. Flowers and donations may be sent to Christ Church Fellowship.

There will also be a memorial service in Anderson, Indiana on October 23, 2021.

She met her husband, George J. Skurja, in an ice cream parlor after his return from serving in the Army during World War II. They married in Bridgeport CT on May 7, 1949 and moved to Stratford. MaryAnn’s employment over the years included jobs as a typist, bank clerk, and a ‘piece worker.’ It was her employment as a small instrument calibration technician at Dresser’s Industries that gave her the most gratification, as her exceptional performance was recognized and she was moved to an air-conditioned room to do her job. She held these jobs while raising seven children.

In 1997, George and MaryAnn moved to The Villages FL. After the death of her husband, she moved to Huntersville NC where she has been a resident of The Glens since July 2011. When asked, she would say the greatest pride in her life was her family – she was always there no matter what or when. She was a loving and selfless daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. MaryAnn was a fifth-generation matriarch with 37 immediate family members.

MaryAnn was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Mark Catholic Church in Huntersville. She volunteered for several activities; and a memorable one was the precious task of doing the laundry for the neighbors of the Room In The Inn ministry. She also participated in several Small Groups sessions, adding joy and kindness with her group members.

She had a love of music and dancing, and believed that we all should “dance as if no one is looking.” She enjoyed reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, long car rides, sharing a cup of coffee, glass of wine, or a Cosmo with family and friends; and was ready to go for just about anything. She emulated the contemporaneous version of FOMO (fear of missing out). Her high energy and love was contagious.

She is preceded in death by her husband, George J. Skurja, son Peter Skurja, granddaughter Tara Cirillo, her brother (Thomas) and three sisters (Stella, Anne, Helen). Survivors include daughters, Judith A. (Otto) Sidarweck of Guilford CT, Nancy (William) Bourque of Milford CT, Patricia (Dwight) Corley of Huntersville NC, Susan (Jan) Dorenbosch of Redding CT, sons Thomas (Brenda) Skurja of Thomaston GA and George (Patricia) Skurja of Stratford CT; 12 grandchildren (Kris, O.J., Gene, Nicole, Hannah, Dale, Mark, Matthew, Tommy, Anni, Kacey, and Jake); 9 great-grandchildren (Emma, Timothy, Samantha, Liam, Chase, J.R., Leo, Zoey and Thomas); one great-great-granddaughter (Delilah); sister, Catherine B. Aiello of Chapel Hill NC; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Medical-Surgical and Hospice staff of room 207 at Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center for their compassion, kindness, and care of MaryAnn and her family.

Wright, Raymond Jr.

Raymond “Ray” Wright Jr; a Stagehand for Broadway and resident of Milford, CT, died of natural causes on September 19, 2021, at the age of 63.

Ray was the beloved son of his late parents Raymond Wright Sr. and Yoshiko Etsumoto Wright. Ray was one of seven siblings, he was predeceased by his sisters, Maryann Blais (Brad), Irene Wright-Marmora (Vincent) as well as his brothers, John Wright and Peter Wright. He is survived by his brother Donald Wright (Peggy), Glenn Wright, sister-in-law, Marcie Wright as well as his many nieces and nephews.

Ray was born on April 5th, 1958, in New Rochelle, NY, and grew up on a farm on Foley Road which he looked back on fondly. He moved on from life on the farm to serve in the United States Marine Corps in the early 70s and was honorably discharged in 1979 as a Lance Corporal. Shortly after discharge, Ray began his career as a Theatrical Stagehand (Carpenter); a career which took him from Broadway, NY to the Las Vegas Strip, as an instrumental part of the backstage crew on many, many productions. Ray dedicated much of his life to his career and eventually ventured out on his own to start his own carpentry business, The Wright Carpentry Company, LLC. Broadway eventually called his name again years later and he found his way back to doing what he and his family had always had a passion for.

Ray was an avid fisherman, often spending countless hours with a pole in his hand and telling his nieces and nephews stories next to any body of water he could find. They gave him the name of “Uncle Fishguts” for good reason.  From fishing along the shores in Milford, CT to “Walter’s Pond” in Warwick, NY, Ray was never hard to find. Ray’s love for adventure also helped him find himself as a hang glider pilot alongside his brother, Peter. From the countless pranks he pulled to his humor and wit, there is much that will be forever missed.

Ray loved his dogs the most. He was predeceased by his best friend, “Socks the dog” but he passed away with his dog “Scrappy-Doo” by his side.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will take place on Saturday, October 30th from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in The Gregory F. Doyle Funeral Home, 291 Bridgeport Avenue, Milford.  Military honors will be rendered at 11:45 a.m.

Interment will be private.
