This proclamation was received during Cub Scout Pack 922’s annual banquet and came as a surprise to Jeff and Vicky.
Each year Cub Scout packs will hold a Blue and Gold banquet to celebrate the birthday of scouting. It is also a time where Cub Scouts are recognized for earning awards and advancing in rank.
Typically at the Cub Scout Pack 922 Blue and Gold banquet, it is also a tradition to recognize leaders and committee members for volunteering and for the dedication they provide to the scouting program. This year Pack 922 had more than 40 Cub Scouts advance in rank, including seven Cub Scouts from the Webelos II den, who received the highest rank a Cub Scout can earn – the Arrow of Light. The next step for the Webelos II scouts is to continue to Boy Scouts.
Since 2010, Jeff and Vicky Cap have been involved as leaders with Cub Scouts and have worked to recruit boys from first through fifth grade to join scouting. The parents of Pack 922 also play a big role in the recruitment, leadership, and support of Cub Scouting.
Jeff and Vicky, along with the leaders and committee members of Pack 922 are continually working to organize scouting events throughout the year. Jeff has spent much of his personal time in the last and previous years helping schedule and organize the large ConnJam event.
ConnJam took place at the Orange Fairgrounds for an entire weekend, which consisted of over 3,000 scouts and leaders. Jeff served on the ConnJam committee as the liaison between the Town of Orange and the Boy Scouts of America, helping to organize the event as well as being involved with planning meetings with various Orange groups and town offices.
Jeff has assisted with the planning of ConnJam for the past 12 years. He earned the highest adult leadership award offered through the Boy Scouts of America, called “Wood Badge,” in 2011. He has also held leadership roles for Wood Badge courses in 2014 and 2016.
In addition to ConnJan, Pack 922 also offers a variety of events each year, which Jeff and Vicky assist in organizing and running, such as camping (Famoree and Hauntoree), Battleship Cove, food drives, fundraising events, community beautification, opening ceremonies at community fairs and events, etc.
