ASD Fitness Center, a fitness center for individuals on the autism spectrum in Orange, is holding free workshop Sept. 17 for parents of children in school with special needs.
The workshop, titled “Back to School and Beyond: How to Manage Your Child’s Special Education Journey” will feature speakers special education law attorney Lawrence W. Berliner and Dr. Shelley Pelletier, a neuropsychologist and school psychologist. Parents will have an opportunity to ask questions of these two experts.
Parents will learn strategies to navigate the special education process for the new school year, including knowing a child’s basic educational rights; what to do when a child is struggling and the school is not responding to their needs; demystifying the role of the attorney, neuropsychologist and the PPT Team; school evaluation and the parents’ right to an independent educational evaluation; and social/emotional and cognitive/learning issues.
The workshop will begin at 6:30 p.m. at ASD Fitness Center, located at 307 Racebrook Rd. in Orange.
