Orange’s Congregation Or Shalom To Hold Healing Shabbat

In the wake of last week’s mass shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh, Congregation Or Shalom in Orange will hold a shabbat of solidarity and healing Friday Nov. 2 at 7 p.m.

“As we grapple with the disaster that befell Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life Synagogue last Shabbat, Jewish Americans across the country will come together this Friday evening to declare: We stand in solidarity with our sisters and brothers of Pittsburgh,” the synagogue said in a release about the event. “We refuse to surrender to evil; we refuse to be intimidated by hate. Specifically, we will gather on Friday evening to offer prayers of healing for the injured congregants of Tree of Life Congregation and the injured heroic police officers of Pittsburgh, and we will gather to say Kaddish for our 11 fallen brothers and sisters.”

Security will be present at the event.

The guest speaker who was originally scheduled for Friday, Rabbi Marisa James, will be unable to join the service, as she needs to officiate at her own synagogue’s “Solidarity Shabbat” in Manhattan, according to the release.

An Oneg Shabbat will be sponsored by the congregation’s Women’s Healing Circle and Rhea Paul in memory of her husband, Charles Isenberg.

Congregation Or Shalom is located at 205 Old Grassy Hill Rd. in Orange.
