Republican town committee chairs in Milford, Orange, West Haven and Woodbridge have issued a joint statement calling on Democrats to denounce the Working Families Party for tweeting its support for the “Defund the Police” movement.
The Working Families Party is one of larger third parties in the state and often cross-endorses Democrats.
“Democratic candidates in Connecticut who have been endorsed by the Working Families Party must immediately and unequivocally denounce the fringe extremist ‘Defund the Police’ movement which the Working Families Party has embraced,” the Republicans said in a statement.
“Connecticut voters deserve answers from the candidates who are running to represent and serve them in the General Assembly. The Republican Party endorsed candidates in Milford, Orange, West Haven and Woodbridge have already declared their support for sensible reforms that bring more accountability to police conduct while preserving public safety,” the statement added. The Republicans called on Democratic candidates running in those towns to take a position on the matter.
