Shannon Running For Reelection In 117th District

MJ Shannon

First-term state Rep. Michael “MJ” Shannon Jr. announced on Jan. 15 that he is seeking reelection to represent the 117th Assembly District, encompassing Milford, Orange and West Haven.

Since being elected, Shannon’s campaign said he has focused on lowering costs, strengthening public education, protecting consumers and making responsible investments in Connecticut’s future.

“I ran for office to serve my neighbors and make government work better for the people who live here,” said Shannon. “One of the most rewarding parts of this job has been talking directly with residents: listening to their concerns, learning about their families and neighborhoods and understanding where state government can actually make a difference. Being accessible, showing up and using my voice to advocate for people in this district is something I take seriously, and it’s why I’m running for reelection.”

Shannon is a lifelong Milford resident and graduate of Foran High School.

Shannon’s campaign said during the most recent legislative sessions, he delivered for constituents by providing targeted tax relief and cost-of-living support for working and middle-class families; strengthening funding for special education and local school districts while maintaining fiscal discipline; advancing energy reforms designed to improve oversight and help reduce electric bills; improve consumer protections and transparency, including cracking down on hidden fees; and supporting policies that help workers, small businesses, veterans and seniors thrive.

“Connecticut works best when we focus on solving problems instead of playing politics,” Shannon said. “I’m proud of what we’ve delivered so far, and I’m committed to continuing that work with the same focus, accessibility and accountability that residents expect from their state representative.”

Shannon said he plans to run a positive, community-focused campaign centered on results, service, and delivering practical solutions.

Republican Ray Collins III, who ran against Shannon and lost in 2024, has already announced that he is running for the seat again.
