Mike Southworth, the Republican candidate for state Senate in the 14th District, thanked his supporters on Nov. 4 in his concession to incumbent Democrat Sen. James Maroney.
Southworth accumulated 22,555 votes, 42.78 percent of the total number cast, according to unofficial results from the Secretary of the State’s office.
“I am so proud and honored to have had the opportunity to run to be the voice for the residents of Milford, Orange, West Haven and Woodbridge in Hartford. It was an incredibly unique experience that gave me the chance to hear from so many neighbors across the community about the change they wanted and the problems they faced,” Southworth said.
“While the results are not what we had set out to achieve, they nonetheless show that we won the votes of thousands of more voters than any Republican candidate over the past few elections. I congratulate Senator Maroney on his re-election to the state Senate. In running a hard-fought campaign, we have helped give thousands a voice and raised issues that would have otherwise been ignored,” he added.
Southworth thanked his family, his campaign team, Republican town committees and all his supporters.
