This was our second time visiting the Breakfast Nook located at 448 Washington Ave, North Haven.{{more}} The Breakfast Nook offers a wide variety of breakfast and lunch selections such as breakfast burritos, omelets, eggs benedict, pancakes, waffles and French toast. They also have delicious soups, classic salads, grinders, clubs, wraps, and healthy options such as turkey burgers and fresh fruit platters. This establishment has been owned by Charise and Arnie Jandreu, for the last two-and-a-half years.
Since its conception, it has been a place to enjoy great food with family and friends. On this particular morning the Nook was buzzing. Nikki was our waitress and explained the menu to us.
Choices included eggs served any way you like them, with fresh toasted locally baked bread, and breakfast burritos (which are three eggs rolled up with taters in a flour tortilla). Other specials included omelets such as the Garden Grove (which is made with spinach, mushrooms, Vidalia onions, Jack cheese, and fresh tomatoes), the Cowboy (which is black forest ham, Vidalia onions, and fresh peppers), the Polska (which is smoked Kielbasa, sautéed onions and Muenster cheese), and of course, their delicious Sicilian and Greek Omelets.
Robert decided to order the Banana Foster flapjacks, which is a tall stack of pancakes topped with simmering bananas, foster sauce, vanilla bean ice cream, and freshly whipped cream. It was artfully presented and adventurous in taste, enjoyed with a hot cup of freshly brewed coffee.
My order was comforting; the Belgian Waffle, with pan seared Granny Smith apples, glazed with brown sugar and cinnamon raisin sauce, smeared over a Belgian waffle with whipped cream, ending with delicious results.
Our next visit was for lunch; this time we were greeted by Karen, who explained the lunch specials and their soup of the day, which was chicken vegetable soup. There is a large blackboard listing of all the daily specials in the event you forget what was explained. After ordering our drinks Robert proceeded to order a grilled chicken club, which is grilled marinated chicken breast, topped with fresh baby spinach, provolone, buffalo mozzarella, and tomatoes. It was grilled on Italian round bread with balsamic honey, and served with dipping sauce on the side. In addition, Robert ordered fried sliced eggplant. This was the first time he had tasted something so unique, and we certainly would recommend this order for those who would like to try something different. Each dish is served with a fresh side of salad, or your choice of a fresh fruit cup.
My order was the grilled vegetable wrap, which was served in two half’s and stuffed with delicious vegetables such as marinated portabellas, yellow and green squash, roasted red peppers, mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil leaves.
Then it came time for dessert. This afternoon they were featuring cinnamon bun French toast, which was a bun dipped in egg batter, deep fried, and decorated with homemade icing. It is served with honey, whipped cream, and a sliced strawberry. This luscious combination was a great way to end our lunch; the dessert was moist without a trace of sogginess and very rich and sweet in taste. We certainly would order this dessert again in combination with a great cup of coffee.
We definitely intend to return to this truly exceptional environment. It offers food that is healthy, satisfying, and reasonably priced.
