The University of New Haven will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Bergami Center for Science, Technology, and Innovation at the Bartels Hall patio on its West Haven campus Sept. 27 at 4 p.m.
Scheduled to open in the fall of 2019, the Bergami Center will feature a makerspace, state-of-the-art science classrooms, communication studios, advanced “smart” classrooms, an atrium/café, and space for multidisciplinary student and faculty collaboration.
The building is to be named after Samuel S. Bergami Jr. and Lois Bergami of Milford, who are among UNH’s most dedicated benefactors, helping to transform the university and the surrounding communities. Samuel Bergami received his master’s degree from UNH in 1985 and is CEO and co-owner of Alinabal Holdings Corp. in Milford.
The event will be attended by the Bergamis, as well as the UNH Board of Governors and President Steven H. Kaplan.
The building project is part of an ambitious program of campus renovations and new construction in conjunction with the university’s upcoming centennial in 2020 that will transform the campus and further enhance the educational experience of its students and enrich our community.
The 44,000-square-foot Bergami facility is the centerpiece of the university’s Charger Challenge: The Campaign for The University of New Haven, which endeavors to raise $100 million before 2020 to invest in student scholarships and the university’s culture of innovation.
