Connecticut Clean Communities, a volunteer-run group that organizes litter cleanups around the state, will be at Walnut Beach for a spring litter cleanup on May 4 commemorating Mackenzie Powers and her mission to keep Milford beaches clean.
Powers – now in college – has been cleaning Milford beaches, particularly Walnut Beach, since she was 4, according to her parents.
“We’re looking forward to being back in the Milford community and celebrating Mackenzie’s legacy,” said Linda Knauff, executive director of Connecticut Clean Communities. “And we are grateful to our co-hosts, The Clean Earth Project, for inviting us into the Milford community and organizing this event.”
The cleanup will take place from noon to 2 p.m., and volunteers are welcome. All cleanup tools will be provided.
Connecticut Clean Communities focuses on litter cleanups along the coastline, in open spaces and in neighborhoods throughout Connecticut. Founded in 2023, the group’s volunteers have retrieved over two tons of trash from area beaches, parks and roadways.
