Milford Announces Summer Camp Options

The Milford Recreation Department announced today that registration has opened for its summer camp programs.

There are four different camps available:

Marine Biology Camp starts June 15. Young explorers will study marine habitats and cetaceans using posters, live and rare museum specimens. Collect, label and mount a marine mollusk collection. Campers should bring a nut-free lunch.

Bird Identification Camp runs from June 28 through July 1. Campers will be immersed in live birds on trails, at the salt marsh and at the observatory, as well as mounted specimens at the museum using a field guide. They will have the chance to make a life-sized painting of their favorite bird on a piece of pine. Campers should bring a nut-free lunch.

Archaeology and Native American Culture Camp start July 12. Participants will create native names, learn to drum, handle actual ancient artifacts and learn scientific archaeological techniques while taking part in an actual dig. The group will excavate, measure and label artifacts as rare as the 4,000-6,000 year-old grooved Indian axe found two years ago. Campers should bring a nut-free lunch.

Clay Camp also starts July 12, and will involve making pots, a musical instrument and campers’ own creations. Campers will also make a snow globe. They will learn to use clay tools to add texture and patterns to their projects. Most projects will be fired in the kiln. All supplies are included and all projects can be taken home. Campers should bring a nut-free snack and not wear flip-flops.
