Milford and Orange have issued alerts for their residents ahead of hurricane Henri, which is expected to make landfall in Connecticut Sunday.
New Haven County and much of Connecticut is under a hurricane warning from the National Weather Service, with the track of the storm set to make a direct hit on the state’s shores after crossing Long Island. The NWS predicts the storm will bring dangerous storm surge, heavy rain that could cause flash flooding and high winds that could down trees and lead to power outages.
“As the City prepares, residents are asked to monitor alerts and weather conditions, secure all outdoor objects susceptible to high winds, help to keep the tops of catch basins clear of leaves and debris, and to charge electronic devices,” Milford Mayor Ben Blake said in a statement. “It is especially important for shoreline residents to be vigilant. With the chance of flooding in areas of low elevation, please be sure to take all necessary precautions, including moving vehicles to higher ground.”
“Prepare today as this storm is expected to bring moderate flooding and tree damage,” a notification on the Orange town website said. “Power outages may occur and those in low-lying areas prone to flooding should take the necessary precautions. Please gather emergency supplies including non-perishable food, water, medications, flashlights, batteries, and secure yard items.”
