Dr. Frank G. Fortunati, Jr.
Dr. Frank G. Fortunati, Jr., 58, of Milford, beloved husband of Karen (Angelo) Fortunati and adored father of Jenna and Frankie, passed away on March 5, 2023. Born in January 1965 in Trenton, NJ, he was the son of Marie (Migliaccio) Fortunati and the late Frank G. Fortunati, Sr.
Frank was truly a Renaissance Man. A psychiatrist, lawyer and pharmacist, Frank was the assistant professor and Deputy Chair for Yale-New Haven Health System. Since 2016, he served as Vice Chief and Medical Director of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health for Yale-New Haven Hospital (YNHH). Frank was a born leader, instinctively leading by example, recognizing and fostering the talents of his colleagues to build a dynamic team of health care heroes. He would never ask a colleague for something he would not or had not done himself. Through a combination of professional excellence, humility and genuine affection, Frank earned the love and admiration of everyone he worked with as well the patients who received his compassionate care.
Frank’s life outside of work was rich. He was an accomplished musician playing saxophone, guitar, piano and flute. One of his great joys was performing with his friends and fellow psychiatrists in their band “Schedule II.” He filled his home and car with jazz and classic rock, bonding with his kids over bands like Chicago, Yes and Pink Floyd.
Humble to a fault, Frank was interested in everything – finance, ancient Roman history, technology, politics, and science. He embraced meditation as he navigated his health challenges and found peace in his faith.
While he found his professional purpose at Yale, love of family is what defined Frank. He was a steady and constant source of wisdom and encouragement for Karen and their children, diving deep into the issues and events of their lives. Their many adventures included travel up and down the Northeast, trips to indulge Karen’s passion for Revolutionary War sites, and to the Jersey Shore, Florida, and Europe, including a memorable trip to Italy in 2010. He had no shame in whipping out the selfie stick to take photos with his family.
But Frank’s favorite place was home. He poured hours into his garden, growing and harvesting tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, grapes from his late mother-in-law’s grapevine, and so many figs from his beloved fig trees. With no hesitation, he got matching fig leaf tattoos with Karen, Jenna, and Frankie over Thanksgiving 2018.
In addition to his loving wife and children, Frank is survived by his father-in-law, Richard, his brother, David (Jin), his brothers-in-law Rick and Steven (Tracey), his nephews and nieces Jake, Jessica, Sophie, Maggie, Emma, Rachel, Ryan and Peyton, and cherished dogs Patch, Petey and Penny.

Ray retired from the Post Office in 1990. Afterwards, he spent his time travelling with his family, visiting his daughter, walking daily, voraciously reading multiple newspapers and magazines a day, singing and listening to music, watching sports and CNN and an taking an occasional trip to Foxwoods. The most important thing to him was his relationships with his family, friends and wonderful neighbors.
It cannot be understated how much he was truly loved and how many lives he touched – the list is too long to write. He loved being social, telling corny jokes and was known as the “Mayor of Wilson Road.” He was a frequent dinner guest at his neighbors’ and family’s homes (who also brought him food after Vera passed away). Eric was a lifelong resident of Milford. After graduating from Milford High School in 1969 Eric enlisted in the Navy. Back then there was the “lottery” system, and his lucky number was 3 which meant if he didn’t sign up for the Navy he would have been in the front lines in Viet Nam. Eric was stationed in Guam and after his active duty he went on to become a Reservist in the Navy for 21 years. Eric took great pride in his service.
Eric was self-employed as a carpenter for most of his working years and took great pride in his work. Eric taught carpentry at Oliver Wolcott Technical HS; Eli Whitney Technical HS; Bullard-Havens Technical HS and Platt Technical HS.
Eric had a variety of hobbies, but his favorite was sailing. Eric enjoyed racing on Thursday nights in Milford and sailing for pleasure. He also enjoyed bird watching; home improvement projects; taking rides in his truck and listening to Car Talk on WNPR (as a family this would be our Saturday mornings) and part of the ride would be to the transfer station! As a family some of our greatest times were spent in New Hampshire in the summer where we enjoyed hiking, train rides, Story Land and swimming.
Eric was the proudest Dad. He loved doing things with Randy and Hanna and when he spoke of them he beamed from ear to ear. Eric loved it when their friends were over, you could always count on some crazy activity happening here. So many wonderful memories, the list is endless.
Eric is survived by his beloved children, Randall James (Alyssia) Gerlander and Hanna Lillian Gerlander; and their mother Kimberly Gerlander who was Eric’s caretaker, his sister Lynn Gerlander Hamilton and many extended family and friends.
I want to thank River Glen Health Care Center who took care of Eric for the last two years. When Eric arrived there during Covid he was very confused and it was challenging to say the least, but they worked with him to make him feel comfortable and relaxed. Sunny his nurse found that music calmed him so she would play Fleetwood Mac (one of his favorites) for him and that would change his mood. River Glen has shared with me how missed he will be, he was the heart of the floor. Thank you all for taking such good care of Eric.

Patricia M. Lucia
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Mary Lucia age 77 of Milford, CT on March 19, 2023 at Yale New Haven Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Pat was born in New Haven, CT to the late Thomas and Mary (Heaphy) Cronan.
Pat’s true calling in life was to be a registered nurse which she wore her badge with honor and dignity. Over her fifty plus years of nursing, she wore many different hats. She first started as an Emergency Room nurse at Saint Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT which she later became their nurse manager for twenty years and met her beloved husband there. She then went on and became the manager at Temple Recovery in New Haven, CT until its closure. During that role, she was nominated by her employees and won the prestigious Nightingale award. Her next chapter in nursing took her to Yale New Haven Hospital as the first urology nurse educator. As the clinical practice continued to grow, she returned to management as the role of APSM until she retired three years ago. In typical Pat fashion, she could not stay retired and went back to working with the Urology department. During her years of devoted nursing, she not only gave her patients and employees respect but she made lifelong friends along the way. She infallibly had an open-door policy to her employees and was always there to lend an ear or give advice to as she was known to many as “Mama Pat”, much more than their boss.
As nursing played a huge role in Pat’s life nothing was as vast as her mother and “Grammy” role. Pat was the definition of selfless. All you needed to do was pick up the phone and she was there for you no matter what and no questions asked. Be it picking up a grandchild to and from school, bringing them to their numerous activities, running to the store at any hour of the day, Sunday rituals to mass, making her phenomenal chicken cutlets and her many delicious dishes that will be sorely missed. She always said that her family was her life, but she was OUR life. She has left us with an immense void, but also beautiful memories that we will cherish forever.
Pat will be severely missed by her son WalterJohn whom they shared a very special bond and his wife Renee who was like a daughter to her. Their three children who were the reason for her being Frankie, Santino and her namesake Daniela GracePatrice Lucia. She was not only their Grammy, but their friend as well. You could always have seen Pat cheering them on at the sidelines of swim meets, hockey games, basketball games and at the dojo. She didn’t miss any milestones in their lives, and she will continue to watch over them. She also leaves behind her caring stepdaughters Rita (Dave) Supernaw, Elisa (Jim) O’Connor, and Laura (Chris) Church. Her beloved grandchildren Matthew Carralero, Ricky and Nella Church. Pat is survived by her close sister Maureen Redman and many nieces and nephews in addition to her great nephew David whom he will miss their frequent phone calls. She is predeceased by her brothers Thomas, William, and Robert Cronan. As well as her late husband and soulmate Walter Lucia, MD. We know that they are dancing up in heaven and enjoying a long-awaited glass of wine together.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday March 23, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at Saint Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave, Shelton, CT 06484. Mary Anne (McLean) O’Connell
Mary Anne O’Connell, R.N. of Milford, CT, formerly of Holyoke, MA, Norwalk & Bridgeport, CT and Bradenton, FL, wife of John ‘Jack’ O’Connell Sr., peacefully left us to join other angels on Saturday, March 18, 2023.
Mary Anne Jeraldine O’Connell was born on September 16, 1941 in Holyoke, MA to John and Mary (Falvey) McLean. After the deaths of both parents Mary Anne and her sister Peggy were raised by their Aunt Jane and Uncle Jeremiah Sullivan. Mary Anne attended Blessed Sacrament Grammar School and Holyoke Catholic High School, graduating in 1959. Following high school Mary Anne attended Providence Hospital School of Nursing earning a degree in 1962. Mary Anne’s caring and compassionate soul made a her a successful nurse in every place she worked, beginning her career in Florida. She continued her career in Connecticut, ultimately retiring from her role as a Public Health Nurse in the Bridgeport Public Schools.
Mary Anne was most dedicated to her family. She met her husband, Jack, in Kindergarten and they had their first date in 4th grade. Though they remained friends, their second official date wasn’t until 1963. They got engaged on what was technically their third date and they were married for 59 years. Through all of life’s ups and downs they sustained their love and dedication to each other. This relationship has been inspirational to many, especially their children.
After they got married Mary Anne and Jack lived in NYC and eventually settled in Norwalk, CT, moving to Bridgeport, CT in 1984. She and Jack moved to Laurel Beach in Milford, CT in 2005. This was referred to as the “O’Connell Family Compound” of which Mary Anne was the true matriarch hosting many holidays and special events there. She also cherished the time living near her oldest son allowed her to spend with her grandchildren. Her loving and sensible, encouraging words guided them, and were appreciated for being more Mary Anne-ish than grandmotherly. Especially when combined with her famous chocolate milk!
Mary Anne spent many years enjoying their home at Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunkport, ME while her children were growing up. She and Jack enjoyed traveling together, especially to Isla Majeures, Mexico where often friends or one of her children would join them. One of Mary Anne’s most favorite trips was the family trip to Ireland where we all explored much of the country including Dingle where her family was from. Later in life she and Jack traveled south in their RV, finally enjoying winters at their home in Bradenton, FL. Later on in life Mary Anne and Jack could be found having lunch at the diner where Mary Anne enjoyed her daily grilled cheese sandwich and having dinner at local Milford restaurants on Saturday nights.
Mary Anne loved to have any reason to celebrate, the sun on her face, and a lobster dinner. She called shopping her therapy, and especially loved her girl’s trips to China Town with best friend and sister-in-law Mary Lou and daughter Margaret. She had a fabulous sense of humor and tremendous faith. She was a compassionate and loving wife, mother, grandmother (great!), aunt, mother-in-law, and friend. She handled her health struggles over the years with strength and grace. She never let her struggles stop her from dancing at family weddings and making memories with friends and family.
In addition to her parents, Mary Anne was predeceased by her son Matthew, sister Margaret “Peggy” McLean, and brother and sister-in-laws George E. and Joan O’Connell. Survivors include her husband John ‘Jack’ O’Connell, Sr., son John O’Connell, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Milford, daughter Margaret and wife Katherine of Norridgewock, ME, son George E. O’Connell and wife Lori of Stratford, Maria O’Connell of Flemington, NJ, grandchildren Alice Iavicoli and husband Nicolino, Lyddy O’Connell, Katie-John O’Connell, John (Jack) O’Connell III, and great grandchildren Giovanni and Ollie Iavicoli. In addition, special to her heart, sister-in-law Mary Lou O’Connell, cousin Fr. James Bowler, SJ, nephew George William O’Connell, wife Karen, and great nieces Julia and Audrey.
There are no words to describe the effect Mary Anne has had on all of our lives. She was brave and an inspiration to us all. She loved us all unconditionally. You are in our hearts forever, especially when we see the ‘sky blue pink’ of the sunset. The family would like to thank the Mary Wade Home in New Haven, CT for their care of Mary Anne and the family. A dedicated family man, he worked hard to support his immediate and extended family, provide his four children with an education and raised them with the same Christian, cultural and family values that were instilled in him while growing up in Palestine. All who knew him, recognized his love and loyalty to his family, and whatever you asked of him, he would find a way to deliver.
Hanna was gregarious, enjoyed hosting family and friends, was a consummate storyteller and photography enthusiast. When he wasn’t working, he loved to travel with his family, always eager to pile his wife, kids, in-laws, siblings, you name it, in a van and just drive (and drive, and drive). There were countless road trips from Florida to Canada and everywhere in between. And if he couldn’t get there by car, his passport was at the ready for him to hop a flight with a lightly packed (seriously, essentials only) carry-on bag, to fun, cultural and international destinations, like Las Vegas, Spain, Italy, Kuwait, Syria and Jordan. When he got that travel bug, nothing could stop him.
Hanna is survived by his beloved family, wife of 48 years, Samia, daughters Elizabeth (Nader) Ajlouny, Lenna, Vivian, son Atallah, his beautiful grandchildren, Aidan George and Ava Grace; siblings, Aida (Yousef) Sayej, Emily (Michel) Owais, Elaine (Jihad) Shahoud, Suhail (Norma) Samander, and mother-in-law, Rahil Kaoud; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and grand-dog, Winston. He is predeceased by his parents, his brothers Antone and Michael and father in-law, Wadi Kaoud.
He will be loved always, greatly missed, and fondly remembered by many as a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, God father and friend. May he rest in eternal peace.

Frank Tondora
Frank Tondora, 82, of Milford, beloved husband of the late Marguerite “McGee” (Ryan) Tondora, passed away after a brief illness on March 3, 2023, with his loving family by his side. Born on October 6, 1940 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he was the son of the late Francis and Agnes (McDade) Tondora.
Frank was raised in Baltimore, Maryland, and grew up fishing in the Chesapeake Bay. He often traveled with a rod and tackle box just in case he spied a good fishing hole, later sharing this love and talent with his children and grandchildren. He was a lifelong fan of all things Baltimore, including the Orioles, Colts, and classic Maryland crabcakes. Frank attended the all-boys Catholic school Calvert Hall and he always spoke fondly of the Brothers who taught there. They helped instill in Frank values, character, discipline, and faith in all things – including Notre Dame football’s ability to bring home the big win when it mattered most.
Frank met the love of his life, McGee, while attending the Johns Hopkins School of Radiologic Technology. He knew a good thing when he saw it and he followed McGee back to Milford. They later married and raised a family in Heatherstone where they were blessed with decades of neighborhood friendships and traditions. Frank and McGee shared 51 beautiful years together and many common interests. Sports were a big part of their lives. They loved to travel near and far to cheer their kids on from the sidelines and the pool deck. And when that chapter closed, they then never missed a UCONN Women’s Basketball game (unless, of course, it conflicted with one of the grandchildren’s activities). Frank also volunteered many hours coaching softball, basketball, and Little League – he even donned a pair of skates to help a friend start Milford’s youth hockey program. After they became empty nesters, Frank and McGee became travel partners and avid golfers. They enjoyed many rounds among new and old friends at Grassy Hill Country Club where Frank brought home the Senior Championship more than once.
Frank’s dedication to his family was mirrored by a steadfast work ethic that enabled him to enjoy a long and successful career. He started out in industrial radiography at AVCO/Lycoming and later applied his talents in sales and marketing at Professional Equipment Company and Fujifilm as well as in medical imaging at Milford Hospital where he proudly worked as Chief Radiologic Technologist. Following his retirement, Frank continued to serve his community as an ambassador with the Cody-White Funeral Home for many years.
A cherished father and beloved “Poppy,” Frank is survived by his children, Frank Tondora III and his wife, Janis, Lauren Tondora Murray, and Lisa Blaha and her husband, Jon; his grandchildren, Caleb, Rylee, Hayley, Mick, Hannah, Zachary, and Maren; and his extended family, affectionately known as the “Jersey Gang” and the “Canada Crew.”
