To The Editor,
Orange is a town where homeowners take great pride in maintaining their property from the doorstep to the curb.{{more}}
Unfortunately, our town leaders have not followed that philosophy. As I drive through the town I can’t help but notice the deplorable condition of many of our main roads. Peck Lane, Russell Avenue, and Lambert Road are just a few which are in particularly bad shape. I understand that these roads are now scheduled for repaving, but to pay for it we ended up having to bond for what should have been done gradually all along.
These are items that should be part of the annual capital improvement budget so that the condition never gets to the point it is now.
This is just one example of how the “non politician” First Selectman, makes decisions to save his job by minimizing tax increases, neglecting our town’s infrastructure and forcing us to borrow to do a major repair of the roads.
Our town needs to be maintained at the same high standards that residents set for their own property and we shouldn’t have to borrow to pay for it.
Bonds are for major capital improvements such as building construction and renovations, not for regular maintenance, like our suburban roads.
