Kathy Alagno To Step Down As Milford Chamber President

Kathleen Alagno of the Milford Regional Chamber of Commerce announced she will be stepping down from her position as President & CEO sometime in the near future.

Alagno has been President of the Milford Chamber since 1995. In that time period she has managed extremely successful membership drives increasing membership, offering opportunities for networking that are extraordinary, started three leads groups, a Health & Wellness Council, Milford Restaurant Week, assisted eight local business become ISO certified, hosted numerous legislative forums with governors, federal officials, and state legislators and run multiple benefit events.

Alagno stated via press release, “It is an honor to serve the Chamber in such a vibrant community as Milford. The business community in Milford is, and will always be an active part in the fabric of life and culture in Milford. Good corporate and community citizens, Milford businesses contribute to all the non-profits that call Milford home, truly making it, “The Small City with a Big Heart”. It is the volunteers of the Chamber that make the difference and are extraordinary. I have made lifelong friends and will truly miss seeing and working with them daily.”

On plans for the future Alagno noted, “A little R & R, and then I will decide what I will do.
Attorney Chris Carveth the current Chairperson noted, “We will miss Kathy and all the experience and contributions she has made over the years. A search committee will be put together in the next few weeks. The Executive Committee will move swiftly to create a seamless transition in leadership for the Milford Chamber.”
Alagno is a graduate of the U. S. Chamber of Commerce, Institute for Organizational Management Chamber Executive Training Program at the University of Delaware and multiple programs of the American Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives.

She has assisted other chambers with organizational management programs. Alagno was named the Executive of the Year in 2003 by the Connecticut Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives, and the Executive of the Year 2003 by the New England Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives.

The Milford Chamber under her tenure became the recipient of the National Association of Membership Development of the American Chamber of Commerce Executives, Award of Merit for their Website www.milfordct.com in 2003, and then again in 2004 as the Finalist, National Association of Membership Development from the American Chamber of Commerce Executives Award of Excellence.

In her capacity of Chamber President she also administers the Milford Chamber of Commerce Trust Fund for their Board of Trustees. Under her tenure over the past twenty years the Trust Fund has grown incredibly awarding approximately $300,000 in scholarships to Milford youth, $45,000 in mini grants for students and $43,000 in donations to various not for profits, including $20,000 to the United Way of Milford for residents displaced by tropical storm Sandy. Much of the funding was provided by proceeds from the BIC Golf Classic.
Alagno is currently a member of the Milford Economic Development Commission, Milford Progress, Inc., and the Central Regional Tourism District for the State of Connecticut, and is a member of the Devon Rotary.
She served on the multiple Boards and Commissions.
