Susan Ellen (Swift) Farrell, of Milford, CT, passed away at home on January 15, 2024 surrounded by family, friends and flowers.

Susan was born on June 3, 1961 to Susan and Raymond Swift, Sr. Susan grew up in Milford, CT alongside her brothers Raymond “Buddy”, Billy, Timmy, and Bobby. She treasured many happy childhood memories of vacations camping with her family. She was also blessed with several lifelong friendships she’s had since Kindergarten.

Susan attended Jonathan Law High School, Kolbe Cathedral High School, and Bay Path Junior College. These experiences prepared her for a career of almost 30 years in the title insurance business. She loved her work, in part, due to the travel and networking inherent to the business, but mostly because of the many close friendships she developed along the way.

Susan’s community service began early as a Rainbow Girl. Later, she served on the Board of Directors for Bridges for many years. She was also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Milford.

Of all of her life’s accomplishments, Susan’s greatest and most valued is her family. She married Timothy Farrell 32 years ago and together they raised Rebecca and Sean. She loved her children deeply and was so proud of them. She was an adoring and doting Grammy to her granddaughter Sawyer, enjoying every minute with her, every picture, every update, every video, every facetime call. Susan was also thankful for Amber, Sean’s dog, her constant companion at home.

In addition to the countless friends and loved ones in Susan’s life, she was a consummate homemaker. She was a masterful cook – never needing a recipe. She was an accomplished baker. Her cookie jar was always full. She was a true foodie. She loved everything about food- planning meals, shopping, preparing, serving, eating, and sharing food. Because of all of the travel her job required, she happened to know the best dishes and desserts to get at different restaurants all across Connecticut. She especially loved a good Sunday drive with Tim, which always included a stop at a favored doughnut shop, or preferred diner.

Susan is predeceased by her mother, Susan (Kish), her brother, Timothy, and her son, Patrick. Susan is survived by her father, Raymond “Bud” Swift, husband Timothy, daughter Rebecca (Dan), son Sean, and granddaughter Sawyer. She is also survived by her brothers Raymond “Buddy” (Carole), Billy (Arline), and Bobby (Lisa) and many nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. She is survived by several cousins she remains close with, particularly her dear cousin and friend, Lori Grucza Kirkland.

Susan is forever grateful for the loving care her husband and children provided her throughout her life and especially her illness. She is so thankful for Tim’s caring support and compassion through it all. Susan wished to extend a heartfelt thank you to extended family and friends who cared for her during the last 4 years throughout her battle with breast cancer. It brings her peace to know that these same loving people will continue to care for her family.

Susan and her family are grateful for the medical care provided to her by Memorial Sloan Kettering, particularly her beloved doctors Chau Dang, Quincy LaPlant, and many others.

Charles W. Grimshaw

Charles “Grimmy” William Grimshaw, age 90, of Milford, beloved husband of Kendall Carroll Grimshaw for over 50 years and devoted father to Allison Moreira (Paulo), entered into peaceful rest on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. Charlie was born in Staten Island, New York on January 16, 1934 to the late Charles and Louise (McElhone) Grimshaw.

Charlie lived in Staten Island for many years before moving to Connecticut and was a proud US Air Force Veteran who served during the Korean War. He worked at Bethlehem Steel for many years as a computer supervisor before retiring in 1994. He loved to golf at the Orchards in Milford and was a past member of Grassy Hill Country Club in Orange.

Grimmy, as he was known to the dozens of girl softball players he coached over the years, spent many hours on the ball field. He loved the game of softball and enjoyed coaching various teams; from his unbeaten Sparkle Lite Milford Recreation team through many state championships with the Milford travel team. He also served as an assistant coach at Lauralton Hall under head coach Tom McDonald, with whom he remained best of friends with over the years, as well as his wife Joan. Together, they won two state CIAC softball championships. Charlie loved coaching his daughter, Allison, and spent countless hours practicing with her in the backyard.

Paulo was more than a son in law to Charlie, he was a son. He loved Paul with all his heart and enjoyed all their times together, especially playing golf in 117 degree weather in Portugal!

In addition to softball, Charlie was an avid UCONN women’s basketball fan, and he and Kendall attended many final four tournaments over the years. He also enjoyed spending time on the Jersey Shore.

A lover of all animals, Charlie especially loved the many dogs he had over his lifetime.

After his coaching years, he loved watching his two grandsons, Matthew and Ryan, play baseball, basketball and football. He went to as many games and tournaments as possible; witnessing Matthews first homerun and Ryan’s FLAGG football championship. He was very proud and deeply loved both of his boys.

Charlie’s family would like to thank the wonderful people at Bridgeport Hospital for taking such good care of Charlie these past few weeks. We would especially like to thank the nurses in the surgical ICU. Your kindness and caring was amazing. He truly cared for all of you. Strawberry ice cream is now a staple in our household!

John William Hartigan

John William Hartigan passed away peacefully on January 14, 2024, with his loving wife Karin by his side. John was born on November 28, 1934 in Syracuse, NY to Mary (Perkins) Hartigan and John Joseph Hartigan.

John’s family moved several times while he was growing up, eventually landing in Rutland, VT when he was a sophomore in high school. Typical of John, he quickly made friends with everyone, and ultimately graduated as president of his senior class. For the rest of his life, he would call himself a “Vermonter”. It was on the slopes of Pico in Vermont that he became an excellent skier and a member of the ski patrol. Always a good student, upon high school graduation, John went on to study engineering at MIT. At MIT he was a member of the Chi Phi fraternity and would routinely break into Chi Phi frat songs at family events. John loved music and was an accomplished clarinetist and saxophonist and played in dance bands to help pay college tuition. While in college, John was in the Army ROTC and reached the rank of captain.

Following graduation from MIT, John worked as an engineer for Pratt & Whitney in CT and then for NBC in Manhattan. John was the ultimate “people person” and quickly realized that he liked people more than engineering. As a result, he pursued an MBA at Columbia. Upon graduation, he began a successful career on Wall Street which started at Smith Barney in Hartford, CT in institutional sales and office management, which led to investment banking at Bear Stearns in Manhattan and San Francisco, and finished back at Smith Barney in Manhattan where he brought in several large pension accounts.

John was an excellent sailor, had several boats over his lifetime, and for many years he and his good friends competed in the Block Island Off Soundings race weekends, taking home a couple of trophies along the way. He passed his love of sailing on to his family and spent most summers cruising through New England to islands like Block Island, Cuttyhunk, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket.

John and Karin were married for 41 years and primarily resided in Darien. While there, they enjoyed cheering on Matt’s Blue Wave teams, and spending time with their friends at the Tokeneke Club and Wilson Cove.

Later in life, John’s happy place was the lake house he and Karin owned on Lake Champlain in Westport, NY, with views of his beloved Vermont. It was here that family and friends gathered to recreate, celebrate, relax, and have fun in general.

More than anything, John loved getting together with his family and friends. For such occasions, he always had candles lit and a roaring fire, and most importantly, always made sure that everyone’s glass was full!

John is survived by his loving wife Karin, brother Richard (Judy) of Southington, CT, children Jack (Cathie) of Wilton, CT, Anne-Marie of Manchester, CT, and Matthew (Margaret) of Wilton, CT, grandchildren Jackie (Chris) of Milford, CT, and Will of NYC, and great grandson Luca of Milford, CT, and his many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his brother William of Salt Lake City, UT and his parents.

His funeral mass will be held on Saturday January 20th at St. John’s Church 1986 Post Rd in Darien, CT at 10am.

Ronald Arthur Murray

Ronald Arthur Murray, 68, of Orange, formerly Milford, beloved husband of Diane (Orfino) Murray, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2024. Born on December 4, 1955 in Bridgeport, CT, he was the son of the late Leroy and Dorothy (Barnstein) Murray.

Dedicated to his career, Ron worked as a lead man in the finish paint department at Sikorsky Aircraft for 44 years, making many friends who loved to laugh together.

He was an avid vinyl collector with records filling his shelves. He loved the Stones, Doors, Deep Purple, Zeppelin, Ten Years After, Cream, Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath and many more. It always put a smile on his face to share his love of music with his children. Whether listening at home or rocking out at a concert, he was always the “cool dad”.

When Ron wasn’t at work, or listening to records, he could be found relaxing with his family, playing with his dog, or cruising in his car. He adored classic cars owning a vast collection over the years, his favorite being Chevrolet. He was so proud of his 1969 Camaro z28 that was published in a magazine, and loved his current Yellow Jacket Challenger. He always excited by new technology, whether burning mountains of DVDs, or marveling at modern phones. He loved watching comedy and action movies, and as a life-long Giants fan he loved seeing them beat his wife’s eagles. He’d be so happy to know they won!

He loved to take his family on trips around the world. Whether a concert at MSG, a lovely cruise to Bermuda, a flight to see the queen, or a road trip to Grandpa’s, he loved making memories with his family. Beautiful memories we shall cherish forever.

Although Ron has held many titles and had many interests in his life, his favorite role was being a devoted father, a loving husband, and most of all, a provider. He loved nothing more than spending time with his adult children and was always so proud of them. Whether for guidance about life, or just an ear to listen, he was always there.

The imprint he’s left our hearts will never fade and he will be missed by all. We are so fortunate to have had such a good man in our lives. We are so proud that Ron was ours.

In addition to his loving wife, Diane, Ronald is survived by his children, Michelle (Richard Guariglia) Murray, and Simone “Sam” Anthony Murray; and his step sisters, Penny (Rick) Small, and Sharon DeMaria. Ronald also leaves behind his best buddy, his little Maltese dog, Brooklyn. A memorial will be held at the family’s convenience.

His love for his family (Mi Familia) and Colombian culture was not like any other, especially for his sons. After graduating from West Haven High School in 1993, Jorge attended Johnson and Wales University where he received a degree in culinary arts, and continued to pursue his passion in different restaurants, ventured on other courses, and navigating life his way. As Jorge was quoted in his high school yearbook, “I don’t know where I’m going. I don’t know what I need. But I’ll get to where I’m going and that’s alright with me…”.
