Religious Groups Come Together For Vigil

The First United Church of Christ (Congregational) of Milford, invoted local Muslims to break the Ramadan Fast inside the church building on June 13. Following the Islamic ceremony and prayers, both religious groups joined together for a “Candlelight Prayer Vigil of Remembrance and Peace”.

The vigil was held in honor and memory of those who were killed in Orlando. Interim Associate Pastor Christian Watkins called for compassion for the LGBTO community, as well as other marginalized group.

Attendees offered their voices to song and read inspirational words while holding candles on the church’s lawn.

Before the vigil, several local Muslims prayed inside the church and broke the Ramadan Fast. Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims. During it, they are not permitted to eat from sunrise to sunset. The holy month occurs 10 days earlier than each previous year. This year’s Ramadan observation ends July 7.
