“Dear beloved community,

In the wake of the tragedy in Orlando, the First United Church of Christ (Congregational) of Milford, CT will be hosting a “Candlelight Prayer Vigil of Remembrance and Peace” to be held at 8:20pm this evening. We will begin by breaking the Ramadan Fast with our Muslim brothers and sisters (immediately at sundown), and continue with a candlelight service on the front steps and lawn of our main sanctuary.

This peace vigil is meant to act as a moment to remember those who have been killed in Orlando, while praying for their families, friends, and loved ones. To pray for the LGBTQ Community, and other marginalized children of God, who are often targeted in the name of religion. To celebrate solidarity with our Muslim sisters and brothers, and lift them up as others choose to blame Islam for this senseless tragedy. To pray for peace in God’s world, and for an end to violence and hate.

Know that everyone is welcome to be a part of the vigil this evening. Please feel free to pass along the invitation. It is our hope that tonight we can offer a space to grieve together as community, and to show support for each other, regardless of our backgrounds.
