Company Pulls Out Of Orange’s “Pink” Recycling Program

The company that serviced Orange’s curbside recycling of textiles has permanently ended its relationship with the town, citing coronavirus-related business considerations.

Simple Recycling, which ran the program that picked up clothing in pink bags, cited the global pandemic in a May 5 letter. “Our leadership has evaluated the landscape with the realization that some very difficult decisions must be made in order for our business to survive,” it said.

“While this is sad news, I want to thank everyone who participated in this program and helped to divert over 24,000 pounds of clothing and other textiles from the waste stream in just over six months,” said Selectman Mitch Goldblatt, who chairs Orange’s Recycling Committee.

Goldblatt added that his committee is still planning to hold its Shredding Day and Mattress Collection, along with Clothing, Toys, and Small Appliances Collection for Saturday, Oct. 17.

“Hopefully, we will still be able to make that happen,” he said.
