Lamont Orders “Non-Essential” Businesses Closed

Gov. Ned Lamont tonight issued an order for all “non-essential” businesses to close in the state.

The order goes into effect at 8 p.m. on Monday, March 23.

Exceptions to the order include places like grocery stores, pharmacies, banks, gas stations and hardware stores. It also will not close major manufacturers such as Pratt & Whitney or Sikorsky.

State Rep. Charles Ferraro, whose district includes parts of Milford and Orange, issued a statement urging residents not to panic.

“This is not much different than what most people were already doing,” he said.

Ferraro, who owns West Haven Academy of Karate, said he is “chomping at the bit to re-open.”

“I have ideas on how to do it and remain consistent with the CDC’s recommendations and I will be sharing them at a future time but, for now I will have to wait for the green-light from the governor as to when he will lift the executive order,” Ferraro said.
