A Cut Above: Make Your Skin Glow

To maintain clear healthy skin, exfoliate a few times a week to get rid of any dead cells on the top layer. There are many treatments with nourishing ingredients like jojoba, flaxseed or sunflower seed oils.

If you would like to give yourself a facial that will brighten your skin complexion, this mixture can be used by men and women: mix ¼ cup of melon, ¼ cup of fresh pineapple and ½ cup of seltzer in a blender until smooth and thick. Use a cotton pad to soak up the mixture and apply it on to your face and neck. Leave it on your skin for 15 minutes and then rinse with cold water and pat dry. Follow up by applying your favorite moisturizer. Your skin will feel clean and fresh while adding a youthful glow to your skin.

For healthy skin benefits that will support your facial program, treat yourself to super foods such as pomegranates, eggs, green tea and salmon as well as greens like spinach and broccoli. If you seem to have sensitive skin, test all products for a least a week on your jaw area, before using them all over your face.

I would like to share some facts by Dr. Amy Weschler, in an article I read in Cosmopolitan by Carly Cardellino.

I know I have always been very careful when wiping excess water off my face not to rub hard tug or pull the skin; but as the article pointed out this area is very sensitive and delicate and you could be promoting the likelihood for wrinkles.

This kind of drying on your face will also remove all the moisture from your skin making it difficult to apply a moisturizer application.

A good practice is to pat your face dry with a clean towel.

The same article offers advice on keeping free of breakouts from Dr. Doris Day. Use a fresh, clean towel on our face so as not to transfer any of the oils from your body and hair to your facial skin. Using the same towel as you use on your body can spread bacteria which can lead to breakouts. Also, by using a clean towel daily this will prevent any dead skin you sloughed off the day before from getting on your newly cleansed face.

You can also take the drying process further and let your body air dry, giving your skin a few minutes to dry before applying serums or creams this way you won’t risk pulling or stretching your facial skin.

As the article points out, most people don’t change their towels frequently enough to be considered clean. Bacteria can get a foothold on the towel from residue left over from missed spots during cleaning.

If nothing else, consider what other body parts that towel has been used on.
