Milford Enacts Parking Ban, Closes City Offices Ahead Of Winter Storm

In anticipation of a major snowstorm to hit the region tonight, Milford officials have announced alternate side of the street parking beginning at noon on Saturday, Jan. 29 through 8 p.m. Sunday.

Vehicles parked on city roads should be parked on the odd number side of the street until 8 a.m. Sunday. Vehicles should be moved to the even number side of the street from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

The alternate side parking ban will allow plows to keep roads passable and accessible to emergency vehicles.

Residents are responsible for shoveling snow and ice from their sidewalks and property.

City facilities will be closed to the public on Saturday, including the Parsons Government Center, Milford Public Library and the Milford Transfer Station.

City officials also asked those who live near elderly or infirm neighbors to check in on them as often as it is safe to do so. Residents were encouraged to make preparations for prolonged loss of power and to use extreme caution when using and fueling generators. Officials strongly discouraged the use of candles and said generators should be operated outside in well-ventilated areas.

Anyone experiencing a power outage is encouraged to notify United Illuminating at 1-800-722-5584.
