Ulrich Weil
Ulrich Sigmund “Uli” Weil passed away suddenly on March 8, 2026. He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Ulrich Weil and Ruth Weil. Uli was a devoted father and grandfather, a talented chef, and a lifelong athlete whose quiet determination and generosity touched everyone who knew him.
Uli grew up in Orange, Connecticut, and spent his adult life between Connecticut and upstate New York. Most recently, he was a resident of Guilford.
As a young man, Uli was an active member of his high school swim team, worked on Buckholz Farm, and spent countless hours outdoors fishing, biking, and hiking around Indian Lake in Orange. He attended Hopkins School and later Amity Regional High School, graduating in 1981.
Uli’s love of cooking began early while working at Lender’s Bagels in Orange. That experience sparked a passion that led him to attend the Culinary Institute of America, which began a distinguished career in the culinary world. Over the years, he held positions at Robert Henry’s, the Union League Café in New Haven, Perfect Parties in Madison, La Cuisine in Branford, and with Sodexo at several universities. His work was marked by creativity, discipline, and a deep respect for quality ingredients.
Most recently, Uli co-founded Energy Lab Eats with his business partner and friend, Brendan Bloom. Through that venture, he partnered with Bishop’s Orchards in Guilford, where he served as executive chef. While he loved cooking professionally, nothing brought him greater joy than preparing meals for his family-both close and extended-and sharing his enthusiasm for new ingredients and recipes.
Uli is survived by his four children and grandchild, Christa, Claire, Madeline, Tim, and Eloise; his loving partner, Stephanie Connelly; and his sisters, Claudia and Christa. He was a loving father who instilled in his children the values of hard work, determination, and self-reliance.
Those who knew Uli understood that he was a man of few words but tremendous drive. He was a competitive triathlete who completed a half-Iron distance race and participated in many shorter events throughout the Northeast.
Uli loved to laugh, to nourish others through his cooking, and to mentor his children, coworkers, and employees as they pursued their own paths. He was taken far too soon, still full of energy and excited about the future-both his own and that of the people he loved.
Reflecting on his life, Uli often said, “I started my life working on a farm, and I’ll end my life working on a farm.”
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 13, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Branford Yacht Club, 39 Goodsell Point Road, Branford. In place of flowers, please make donations in Uli’s name to the Community Dining Room in Branford, CT.
Daniel W. Wywoda
Daniel W. Wywoda, age 93, of Milford, beloved husband of Anne Wywoda, passed away peacefully on March 15th, 2026 surrounded by his family. Born on July 14th, 1932, in Dupont, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John J. Wywoda and Genevieve Smichowski.
Daniel lived an honorable and humble life, defined by devotion to his family and faith, and by finding joy in life’s simple activities. A man of Polish heritage, he carried his roots with him wherever life took him, building a legacy grounded in hard work, a strong sense of duty, and deep kindness and generosity.
Daniel proudly served his country in the United States Army for a year and a half during the Korean War. His service reflected the same commitment and sense of responsibility that guided him throughout his life.
Daniel shared a remarkable 57-year marriage with his beloved wife, Anne. Their story began with a fortuitous encounter in Puerto Rico. During Daniel’s career as an international businessman with Acker Drill and Intraco, Anne often accompanied him when his work took him abroad. Daniel was well traveled, visiting 77 countries across six continents. Yet no matter how far his journeys carried him, home and family were always at the center of his life.
A passionate sports fan, Daniel’s first love was football, religiously following the NFL RedZone each season. Baseball followed closely behind, along with the highs and lows of the Boston Red Sox. He also found great joy in family traditions such as March Madness and the W Cup, where he proudly served as “The Commissioner.” Daniel especially loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, cheering enthusiastically from the sidelines.
Daniel also cherished the simple pleasures of daily life. His mornings began with Taster’s Choice coffee and the newspaper, reading it from front page to back. In the kitchen, he was famous for making the best scrambled eggs—always prepared with a generous amount of butter. Evenings were often spent relaxing with a glass of wine or a well made Manhattan.
Those who knew Daniel will remember his kindness, warmth, and steadfast love for those around him. His life was rich with experiences—from travels across the globe to the small, meaningful moments shared with family. He leaves behind a large and close knit family tree who will forever remember the examples he set and the love he gave so freely.
In addition to his wife Anne, of 57 years, he leaves to cherish his memory his children Susan Asimakis and her husband Greg, Kathy Wywoda, Dan Wywoda and his wife Rosemary, and Mike Wywoda and his wife Lisa. He is also survived by his grandchildren Scott Asimakis and his wife Rose, Laura Asimakis, John Wywoda and his wife Kaitlyn, Tim Wywoda and his wife Catherine, Rachel Wywoda, Jaden Wywoda, and Declan Wywoda. His tree also extends to his great grandchildren Layla, Ethan, Aoife, Ronan, Julia, and Diana and many nieces and nephews. Daniel is survived by his sister Elaine Worden and predeceased by his brother Bobby Wywoda.
Family and friends are invited to gather on March 30th, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford. A Mass of Catholic Burial will be celebrated on March 31st, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Church, 400 Merwin Ave in Milford. Interment will follow at the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane in Middletown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
