Obituaries from the Oct. 29, 2026 Issue

Cissy Armstrong

Frances “Cissy” Armstrong, 68, of Milford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of September 26, 2026 after a two-year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family, and her devoted husband, Tom. The Nor’easter that accompanied her passing felt apropos for a woman so powerful.

Born on October 26, 1957, in Norwalk, Connecticut, Cissy was the youngest of six born to Robert and Frances Elinor Devine. She was a life-long athlete, first competing in swimming at a national level, then later qualifying for and competing at the 1984 Olympic Trials in women’s cycling.

She met her husband, Tom Armstrong, while working at the Cannondale Bike Company in Georgetown, Connecticut. Together they raised two loving children, Alex and Valerie. Tom and Cissy moved to Milford in 1991 where they put down roots that remain to this day. Cissy worked as an aide and swim coach at Joseph A. Foran High School for more than a decade. She was later hired at Yale University, where she started in the Admissions Department before being promoted to assistant to the Dean of Saybrook Residential College. At Saybrook, Cissy helped innumerable students navigate their undergraduate years. She was beloved by the Saybrook College faculty and students alike.

Beyond her work, Cissy was kind, loving, thoughtful, and funny. She was a consummate host, never happier than when she was surrounded by the din of chatting family and friends – particularly the members of her book club. She was a wonderful, active grandmother, always ready to get on the floor and play with her granddaughters. And she treasured time spent with Tom, as happy to take day trips exploring Connecticut as she was to travel around the world, so long as they were together.

Cissy is survived by her husband, Tom; son Alex and daughter-in-law Julie Alcarez (Milford); daughter Valerie (Los Angeles); granddaughters Katherine and Elizabeth Armstrong; and her siblings, D’Arcy Haskins, Peter Devine (Sharon), Jay Devine (Cathy), and Cathy Devine as well as her sister-in-law Sheila Devine and many cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Tim.

A wake will be held at Cody-White Funeral Home in Milford, Connecticut, on October 9, 2026, from 4-7 PM, with a celebration of life to take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Cissy asked that donations be made to the Kelly Devine Memorial Scholarship Fund by mail to “c/o Devine and Devine, 65 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06851” or World Central Kitchen online at www.donate.wck.org/

Sarah J. Sosenko Beaulieu

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sarah Sosenko Beaulieu, age 69, of Cheshire, CT. She died after a 9 month courageous battle with Glioblastoma at CT Hospice in Branford with her partner, Serge Beaulieu, by her side. She was born on July 31, 1957 a twin daughter of the late Peter and Edith (Koziuk) Sosenko. In addition to her partner, Serge of Venice, FL, she leaves behind her devoted identical twin, Peg Beattie (Wayne) of Orange, CT, her brother Don (Mary) of Ansonia, CT, several cousins, most notably her cousin, Nancy Saja, who was by her side almost daily during her illness offering unwavering support.

Sarah was a graduate of Shelton High School, Class of 1975. She graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education and taught 5th grade at Sunnyside School in Shelton. Before long, she discovered her true calling. After earning her MBA in Business Administration from the University of New Haven, she stepped into the world of internal auditing—a field where her sharp instincts, steady work ethic, and strong analytical skills allowed her to thrive. Over the years, she built a deeply respected Senior Internal Auditor career across the banking, healthcare, higher education, and transportation fields, always bringing integrity and passion to everything she touched.

Traveling with Serge was one of Sarah’s greatest joys. She embraced every opportunity to explore the world, finding happiness and fulfillment in Viking Cruises to the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Turkey, Czechoslovakia, England, and Switzerland. She also traveled extensively in the U.S. and Canada. Each place left its mark on her, adding color and richness to a life she lived with curiosity and appreciation. She also cherished the peaceful hours spent on the golf course with her friends where companionship and the simple rhythm of the game brought her comfort and delight.

Over the last several years, Sarah was a member of the Unitarian Society of New Haven in Hamden, CT and enjoyed the inclusiveness and outreach programs. But above all, Sarah’s life was defined by her love for her family. Her strong family values were her anchor, and she lived them every day. She was the person who showed up—without hesitation, without complaint—whenever someone needed her. Even while facing her own illness, she continued to give of herself with a gentleness and generosity that never wavered. Her selflessness wasn’t something she tried to cultivate; it was simply who she was. She gave love freely, quietly, and wholeheartedly.

Marilyn “Lyn” Boudreau

Marilyn “Lyn” Boudreau, 84, of Milford, passed away on September 29, 2026. Born on July 13, 1942, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late Louis Boudreau and Germaine (Bourque) Boudreau Velli.

Lyn was a lifelong learner, adventurer, beloved sister, aunt, cousin, and devoted friend whose curiosity, humor, and independent spirit touched everyone who knew her. She attended St. Charles School and was a member of the first graduating class of Notre Dame High School in Fairfield. She attended Annhurst College, Southern Connecticut State College, and later earned a master’s degree from Central Connecticut State University. While studying at Southern, she participated in a study abroad program in France, an experience that sparked a lifelong passion for travel.

After college, Lyn taught French and English at Southbury High School before beginning a career in social work. She later joined SNET (Southern New England Telephone), where her intelligence and determination led her to pursue a position as an engineer after teaching herself the advanced mathematics needed to pass the qualifying exam. While engineering was not her true passion, the opportunity provided the means to pursue what she loved most: exploring the world. Throughout her career, Lyn never lost her curiosity, perseverance, or desire to connect with others.

Following her retirement, Lyn discovered what she considered her true calling, teaching English as a Second Language to international students. Through this work, she formed many cherished friendships that spanned the globe and enriched her life for decades.

Travel was one of Lyn’s greatest joys. She loved exploring new places and cultures, but nowhere held a more special place in her heart than Torremolinos, Spain, where she returned time and again. Music was woven throughout Lyn’s life. She loved to sing, whether performing karaoke in Spain or entertaining family and friends closer to home. Her quick wit and creativity inspired her to write original songs that delighted family and friends for years. Whether she was making people laugh, encouraging everyone to sing along, or taking center stage herself, Lyn’s love of music brought joy to those around her.

Lyn was also known for her playful sense of humor and her affection for penguins, a collection that became a beloved part of her life. Her fondness for penguins became well known among family and friends, and her collection of “Perrys” always brought a smile to her face. Her family will fondly remember her quick wit, adventurous nature, and the many stories she shared from her travels and experiences.

Above all, Lyn treasured time spent with family and friends. She created lifelong memories through laughter, holidays, gatherings, and countless adventures, and she remained deeply connected to the people she loved throughout her life.

Lyn is survived by her siblings, Loraine (Paul) Duclos, Elaine (the late Earl) Cozzi, and Donald (Mary) Boudreau; her nieces and nephews, Jennifer (Joe) Federico, Brian (Allison) Boudreau, David (Jean) Boudreau, and Nichole (Brian) Mayhew; and her grandnieces and grandnephews, Joey Federico, Anthony Federico, Rory Boudreau, Annie Boudreau, Nora Mayhew, Thompsen Mayhew, and Emmitt Mayhew.

Jeffrey Burns

Jeffrey David Burns was born on Christmas Day by the ocean in Milford, Connecticut. Born to Bernard J. Burns and Kathryn Mary Eustace Burns, Jeff was the youngest of five children. Jeff’s childhood by the water cultivated a deep love of the sea that persisted throughout his life.

Jeff attended John Hopkins high school, going initially to the University of Richmond, then transferring in the fall of 1978 to Davidson College. Jeff was recruited by Davidson after catching Davidson’s attention during a spring game as quarterback with University of Richmond by completing 8 of 13 passes for 78 yards and 2 touchdowns against the number one defensive unit. His athletic performance made newspaper headlines. During Jeff’s time at Davidson, his artistic abilities caught the eye of his professors, and Jeff’s beautiful oil paintings are treasured to this day by his family. Of Jeff’s most memorable experiences in college were those in the company of his lifelong college friends and his canine companion, Bo.

Jeff graduated with a degree in economics in 1981. Feeling called by his adventurous spirit, he embarked on a formative six-month solo bicycle tour of Ireland, Europe and the Middle East. He lived and worked on a Kibbutz in Israel, concluding his travels in Egypt and sailing the Nile River. Jeff’s travels left an indelible mark on him, and cultivated both a lasting impression of the profound and nuanced beauty of the world, and a deep love for people that would guide him throughout his lifespan.

Returning home in 1982, he began a career that would grow into global risk management, working as he said “with people to resolve challenging situations before they became more challenging.” He was considered by others in the industry to be a construction expert with product development expertise and design of risk solutions for large-scale civil projects around the globe. He excelled due to his love of people and visionary outlook.

Jeff, above all else, cherished every moment of time with his family. Jeff had three beloved children during his first marriage and married his wife, Jamie in 2019. They shared loving, deeply cherished years together. Jeff trusted God’s love and never wavered in both his Catholic faith and deep love for family.

Throughout his life, Jeff’s adventurous spirit made him most at home climbing mountains or sailing into the wilderness of the sea. He maintained a love of all watercraft, some of which were barely seaworthy. His final home was in Evergreen, Colorado, with his wife Jamie, surrounded by the mountains he so deeply loved.

Jeff is survived by his loving wife, Jamie, daughter Jennifer Caitlin Markey and son-in-law Craig Phillip Markey, son Jeffrey B. Burns and daughter- in-law Katherine Renee Burns, and daughter Katherine Hally Burns. Jeff is survived by his well-loved grandchildren Jack Alden Markey, Owen Oliver Markey, and Eleanor Emerson Markey. Jeff precedes in death his beloved siblings, sister Kathleen Halperin, brother Bernard Burns, and brother Chris Burns. He joins his beloved brother Joe Burns in eternal rest. Jeff’s family and friends grieve deeply the passing of Jeff’s brilliant life and light, and he is remembered by the laughter, joy, hope and love he gave to so many in his lifetime.

Throughout her life she and her husband Ed raised their family in many organizations, teams and clubs. It was her true joy to be present at the many hockey games, shows and events because being a mother she often said was her best job ever. Many friends of her children often recall just dropping in for an extra pair of gloves or a snack or picnic as they might have from school or after a game. As the family grew up and moved away, she was a constant source of care packages, cards and frequent phone calls with sound advice and a dash of sass.

She and Ed took many trips and often incorporated a visit to our families along the way, always doing something new and different to color their world. They had a very active life both together and individually. She took this journey with her friends also by sending many cards to brighten a day, visiting when someone was in need of comfort or making Irish bread to bring as a special treat.

Ann and Ed Donohue gifted the world with five children and although Ann’s light has gone elsewhere her spark lives on in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family, Catherine (George Sweeney deceased) her son Brendan of Ohio, Maggie (Millyn Moore) their children Kathleen and Dan (Devan) and newest addition grandson Riley in Vermont, Only son Edward (Wendy) and their sons Jack, and Billy (Liz) and their new granddaughter Ella in Virginia, Their daughter

Roy C. Francis

Roy C. Francis, 86, of Milford, Connecticut, passed away on October 1, 2026, leaving behind a life distinguished by education, military service, adventure, and a genuine desire to help others succeed.

Roy was born to Bion and Helen Francis of Medford, Massachusetts. He went on to graduate from the University of Bridgeport in 1963 and began his professional career in banking, including time working in the Netherlands, before joining the Sears management program.

Roy eventually found his way into education, where he would spend much of his professional life. In January 1968, he joined Bunnell High School, teaching mathematics, serving as a senior class advisor, and developing an electronics course. He later moved to Gateway Community College, where he taught finance and helped develop the college’s automotive program.

Throughout his career as an educator, Roy was especially committed to encouraging women to enter fields in which they had traditionally been underrepresented and took great pride in helping his students achieve their goals. Following his retirement, he was honored with the title of Professor Emeritus.

Roy’s commitment to service extended beyond the classroom. He served for 20 years in the United States military, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. During summers, he taught and conducted military training courses and received recognition for his work as an instructor. Later he became a member of the 242 Combat Engineer Association.

Real estate was another of Roy’s lifelong interests. He enjoyed buying and selling property and ultimately building his own dream home. Ever the teacher, Roy was generous with his knowledge and frequently encouraged students to consider real estate investment as a means of building financial independence and creating opportunities for themselves.

Roy also knew how to enjoy life. He had a passion for cruising, fine dining, dancing, and travel, exploring destinations throughout the Caribbean and Europe, including Italy, Spain, Greece, and Iceland. He particularly enjoyed the friendships and camaraderie he found through his cruising experiences.

Roy leaves behind his loving and devoted partners, Ruth and Kathy; his nephew, Steve Turner; his nieces, Patricia and Kathleen Francis; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Bion and Helen Francis, as well as two brothers and two sisters-in-law.

Over the course of 86 years, Roy built a life rich in accomplishment and experience. Yet his legacy can also be found in the many people he encouraged along the way— in the students he taught, the people he mentored, those with whom he served, and the family and friends who shared his life. He will be remembered for his dedication to education and service, his adventurous spirit, and his enduring desire to see others succeed.

Raymond R. Miller

Raymond R. Miller Sr., 83, of Milford, beloved husband of the late Judith Miller, passed away on October 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Raymond was born on November 29, 1942, in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late Edward and Mabel Miller.

Raymond served in the U.S. Army Reserve upon high graduation. He began his professional career immediately thereafter at Mechanics & Farmers Savings Bank as a mailroom clerk. Over the course of 26 years, through determination, and a genuine passion for banking, he steadily advanced throughout in the bank to become the Chief Operating Officer. Upon leaving Mechanics & Farmers Savings Bank, Raymond’s part-time passion for real estate development and investment became his full-time career. He developed, invested, and managed numerous properties throughout Milford and the surrounding areas over the years. Raymond also became a Commercial Real Estate Appraiser and continued operating his own business until his death.

Throughout his life, Raymond was involved in numerous community organizations and activities in Milford and Bridgeport.

Raymond could always be found doing something around his home. He loved working in his yard and or doing a project on the house. He had an ability to fix, build, and figure things out, a trait he passed down to his family.

Earlier in his life, Raymond was avid golfer and softball player. He was an enthusiastic fan of the New York Yankees, UConn Basketball and New York Giants.

But above all, his family always came first. He lived those words every day. He was a devoted and supportive husband to his beloved wife, Judie, standing faithfully by her through every step of her life until her passing in 2025. Raymond was Judie’s caregiver for 10 years and never left her side. His love and devotion to her were unwavering, and their life together of 63 years was a testament to the true meaning of commitment and partnership. One of his favorite things he loved to do was taking long drives with Judie.

Raymond’s love extended just as deeply to his children and grandchildren. He was present for the moments both big and small, making sure his family always knew they were the most important thing to him. When it came to his grandsons, there was rarely an event, milestone, or activity that Raymond missed. From daycare/school activities, family get-togethers to sporting events, he was always there.

Raymond managed his grandson, Timmy’s, baseball team for many years, dedicating countless hours to the young players and the Milford Junior Major League. Every possible opportunity, Raymond and Judie attended as many sporting events, cheering their grandsons on and taking genuine pride in watching them play.

Raymond’s greatest accomplishment was not his career, the properties he developed, or the organizations he served. It was his family and the love, advice and support he passed on to each and every one of them in his own special way.

Raymond’s true legacy is one of love, devotion, advice and support to anyone who knew him. He was one of a kind and will truly be missed.

Raymond is survived by his children: Cherie Giambra (Stephen), Robin Moran, and Raymond Miller Jr.; grandchildren: Timothy Moran Jr., Stephen Giambra (Jessica Kinser), Jason Giambra (Jessica Sanders), Ryan Giambra, Brianna Miller, and Lindsay Miller; his brother, Douglas Miller (Zita); his siblings-in-law, Robert Harvey (Carole), Cheryl Skirmont (Anthony), Richard Harvey (Leanne), and Deborah Massicotte (Joseph), as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Donald Clark Morris Sr.

Donald Clark Morris, Sr., 92, of Milford, beloved husband of the late Barbara Martin Morris, passed away on October 21, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 1, 1934 in Stamford, CT, he was the son of the late Walter and Louise Morris.

Donald proudly served in the United States Navy, entering service in 1953 and continuing until his honorable discharge in 1957.

From a young age, Donald found his calmest moments fishing, spending time along the stream, and hunting. His dream was to one day live in a cabin in the woods, with his feet wading in the water and a fishing rod in his hand. These peaceful moments reflected the things that mattered most to him.

Donald passed this love of the outdoors down to his children, grandchildren, and even great grandchildren. From the stories of the antlers on the wall to planting seeds in time for growing season, these were more than hobbies he shared; they were memories that became part of his family’s story.

As the years went by, Donald’s love for nature found another home in his garden. His green thumb was undeniable, and there never seemed to be enough room for all the vegetables he wanted to grow. He would plant wherever he could find a bit of space, even using a milk jug on the deck if that was what it took. His yard and garden flourished, producing an abundance of fresh vegetables that always found their way to the family table. That is, when his great-grandchildren didn’t get to them first.

Though Donald’s hands may no longer tend the garden, the seeds he planted, in the earth and in the hearts of his family, will continue to flourish for generations to come. His memory will live on in every fishing line cast, every vegetable harvested, every garden grown, and every moment spent enjoying the beauty of nature.

Donald is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Morris-Briggs; his grandchildren, Daniel (Amanda) Morris and Kristin L. Briggs; and his great grandchildren, Odin, Edward, and Charlotte. Along with his wife of 65 years, Barbara, Donald is predeceased by his son, Donald Morris, Jr., as well as many beloved siblings.

All services will be private.

Susan “Sue” Niglio

Suzanne “Sue” Niglio, 77, of Milford, CT, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2026. The youngest of seven children of Italian born-parents, Remigio and Esther Garzia, she was born in New York City on August 9, 1949.

Sue didn’t have an easy childhood. Her father died when she was very young and her mother needed to work long hours and several jobs to make ends meet. Sue often recounted memories of selling balloons or fruit from her father’s fruit and vegetable stand to help the family. Through these experiences, Sue developed the grit and work ethic that would take her through life. After graduating from Evander Childs High School, Sue spent several years as an Executive Secretary at Citigroup in Manhattan.

In 1976, Sue married the love of her life, Joe, and settled in a simple, beautiful home on Eleanor Road in North Haven, CT. While on Eleanor Road, Sue and Joe were blessed with three sons. A devoted mother, Sue stayed home to raise her children while Joe worked long hours seven days a week running several Mister Donut shops within Connecticut that were beloved in their communities. Sue seemed to be able to do it all; volunteer, keep a tidy home (which wasn’t easy with three boys), travel all over New England for hockey games, and prepare a delicious meal each night for her family. When her children grew older, Sue returned to work as an Executive Assistant in the Finance Department at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Being Italian, family meant everything to Sue. She loved hosting every holiday, particularly the traditional Feast of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve. The thought of spending Christmas Eve anywhere else wasn’t even considered. Each holiday, Sue made certain that you went home with a full belly, plenty of leftovers, and were reminded how much you were loved.

Sue was tough and honest; you always knew exactly where you stood with her. She often joked about her inability to sugarcoat anything. Sue cheered and booed the loudest at every hockey, baseball, and football game (no megaphone needed) and was unafraid to let referees know when she thought they needed an eye exam.

As tough and as loud as Sue was, she had a loving and gentle heart. She would often prepare food when someone she knew fell ill, bake cookies and pies for colleagues during holidays, make Easter baskets and purchase Christmas presents for underprivileged children, and always remembered to send a birthday card to a friend or relative. Sue’s strong and loving heart was on full display when she cared for her husband, son, and niece when each battled cancer.

In 2019, after 43 blissful years of marriage, Joe passed away. Sue was also predeceased in death by her four brothers, Luigi, Simone, Ernesto, and Louis, her sister, Raffella, and niece, Diane Heaney, whom she loved dearly. She is survived by her three sons, Joseph (Kristina) of Rye Brook, NY, Anthony (Cathy) of Cheshire, CT, and Thomas (Danielle) of Milford, CT, six grandchildren, her sister, Rose Lucchese of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and several nieces and nephews who will miss her tremendously.

The family would like to thank the staff at Maplewood for the care they provided to Sue during her stay. Burial services will be private.

John Pizzi

John Pizzi, 82, of Orange, beloved husband of Rosemarie Pizzi, passed away on September 22, 2026. Born on July 7, 1944, in the Bronx, New York, he was the son of the late Pasquale and Philomena (Fannie) Pizzi.

Born and raised in the Bronx on Arthur Avenue, John treasured the memories and traditions of his childhood. As a young boy, he greatly enjoyed working at the neighborhood supermarket, playing stickball in the street, and practicing the French horn and trombone. In his younger years, he was an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in the Bronx. John spent many summers in Milford with his cousins, making cherished memories at the beach and with his family.

John attended Theodore Roosevelt High School and later earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the City University of New York. He went on to build a distinguished career as an electrical engineer at United Technologies Corporation’s Norden Systems, where he worked for 49 years until his retirement. It was there that he met Rosemarie, who also worked at Norden. Their meeting marked the beginning of a lifelong love that would remain at the center of John’s life.

John and Rosemarie spent the first two and a half years of their marriage living in the Bronx, allowing John to share the place he loved most with the woman he loved most. They later moved to Orange, Connecticut, where they made their home and built a life together. He never missed an opportunity to be there for his three sons and often traveled to their soccer games, no matter the distance, to cheer for them.

In retirement, John cherished the additional time he could devote to his family. He was a loving and supportive husband, father, and grandfather. With his grandchildren, John was playful and present, always ready to spend time with them and create memories they would carry with them.

Those who knew John will remember his lighthearted nature and wonderful sense of humor. He had a gift for making people laugh no matter the circumstance. He was an enthusiastic New York sports fan, especially of the Yankees. He enjoyed listening to big-band music, Dean Martin, and Perry Como, and was equally happy with a good book, a deck of cards, or simply spending time with the people he loved.

Along with his beloved wife, Rosemarie, John is survived by his children, John Pizzi, Jr., Christopher Pizzi (Heather), and Gregg Pizzi; and his grandchildren, Blake, Cooper, Brigid, and Enzo.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Infant Church, 450 Racebrook Road, Orange (meet directly at church). John Patrick Rafferty Jr.

John P. Rafferty, Jr., 64 of Orange, passed away on October 7, 2026. Known to all as “Jack”, he was born on August 17, 1962 in New Haven, CT to John P. Rafferty and Margaret Rafferty. He was the beloved husband of 36 years to Elizabeth “Beth” Cliff-Rafferty.

He went on to build a distinguished career as a Certified Public Accountant, dedicating more than 40 years to his profession and most recently serving as Chief Financial Officer for the Housing Authority of New Haven.

Jack’s adventurous spirit was evident in the story of how he met his beloved wife, Beth, aboard a Carnival cruise ship, just two hours into their journey together. It was love at first sight, and they married in 1990, going on to raise two beautiful daughters. A lifelong UConn sports fan, Jack could often be found proudly wearing his UConn memorabilia and attending games, frequently organizing outings with the lifelong friends he made during his college years. He was also a devoted Philadelphia sports fan and loved sharing his enthusiasm for the teams he cherished.

Jack lived life with determination, curiosity, and a sense of adventure. An avid bicyclist, he often rode 30 miles a day and enjoyed taking long solo biking trips, camping along the way. Most recently, he completed an incredible 200-mile journey through the Adirondack Mountains. He was rarely without a book in hand, especially mysteries, nonfiction, and autobiographies about people who overcame the odds or accomplished extraordinary feats. Jack was driven and headstrong, yet deeply loving, and took great pleasure in hosting family and friends for smoked meats and barbecues. He cherished his dogs, Daisy and Snowy, and loved taking them on long walks. Above all, Jack was an unwavering source of love and support for his wife and daughters, cheering them on in every accomplishment and always being there whenever they needed him. He treasured his role as a grandfather and was lovingly given the name “Grandpa Spike,” a title he wore with great pride.

Samuel Randolph

Samuel Randolph, 91, of Milford, Connecticut, passed away on October 12, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, cherished memories, and a family who adored him.

Born on May 26, 1935, in Fayetteville, Tennessee, Samuel was the beloved son of Ruby Randolph and Samuel Randolph. He carried with him the values of hard work, dedication, and love for family throughout his life.

Samuel spent most of his working years as a skilled welder at Textron Lycoming/Avco, where he demonstrated the strong work ethic and commitment that defined his character.

Samuel was a man who found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He loved being outdoors, tending to his yard, washing his cars, and taking special pride in waxing his gorgeous Mustang. On a beautiful day, you could often find him cruising along the beaches of Milford with the top down, country music playing.

He had a wonderful sense of humor and a way of making those around him smile. His family will forever hear his familiar expressions, “The thing of it is…” and “The good Lord willing…” — simple words that became such a beloved part of who he was. Those little sayings, once heard so often, will now be among the memories his family treasures most.

But above all else, Samuel’s greatest joy was his family.

He leaves behind the love of his life, his devoted wife of 66 years, Jacqueline Randolph. Their marriage was a remarkable love story, one built on unwavering devotion, companionship, and a bond so deep and beautiful that words can hardly do it justice. Through 66 years of life’s joys and challenges, they shared something truly extraordinary. Their love was the kind that others admired and the kind that will continue to inspire their family for generations to come.

Samuel was a wonderful and loving father to his daughter, Stacey, and leaves behind his son-in-law, Kevin Gendron. He was an extraordinary grandfather to his granddaughters, Olyvia Gendron, Sophia Gendron, and Ava Gendron. He also leaves behind his grandsons, Samuel Mitchell, Travis Mitchell, and Jesse Ruddy. The love he had for his family was immeasurable, and the memories they shared with him will remain in their hearts forever.

Samuel is also survived by his brother, James Randolph, and his sister, Margie Mariano.

Those who loved Samuel will remember his laughter, his familiar sayings, his love of the outdoors, and the sight of him proudly driving his Mustang along the Milford shoreline. Most importantly, they will remember a man who loved deeply and was deeply loved in return.

Although his family must now learn to navigate life without his physical presence, the love he gave them will never fade. It will live on in their stories, their traditions, their laughter, and in the generations that follow.

A celebration of Samuel’s life will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anne’s Church in Milford, Connecticut.

And as Samuel himself would so often say, “The good Lord willing…” we will all be together again someday.

Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever in our hearts.

Elizabeth Phelan Rivera

Elizabeth “Liz” Rivera, 71, of Milford, Connecticut, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2026, after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family and dear friend, Andrea Murray.

Born in Milford on June 7, 1955, to the late Robert and Claire Phelan, Liz was a proud graduate of Lauralton Hall and lifelong resident of Milford.

Continuing a proud family tradition, Liz built a long and accomplished career with the railroad, retiring from Metro-North Railroad after decades as a lead ticket seller. Early in her career, she was trained by a senior ticket seller named Nelson Rivera, who became the love of her life. They were married in 1998 and Liz often said that the 26 years of marriage with her beloved “Nelly” before his passing in 2024 were the best years of her life. Though the family is heartbroken by her sudden loss, they take great comfort in knowing these two beautiful souls are reunited once again, together for eternity.

Liz had a generous heart and gave freely of her time, volunteering throughout Milford and serving for many years as a devoted docent at the Stratford Historical Society. A true beach lover, she could often be found strolling the shore at Gulf Beach or climbing the rocks at Anchor Beach. She was a voracious reader and an avid card player, and later in life she developed a passion for British dramas. She never turned down a sausage pie from Modern Apizza and cherished her regular dinners with friends and family at Cracker Barrel.

Liz was deeply devoted to her sobriety and found tremendous joy in helping others find their own way. Through her compassion, love, and understanding, she offered encouragement to those who were struggling and reminded them that they did not have to face their journey alone. She always provided an understanding ear, a caring heart, and a safe place for others to share their experiences.

Above all, Liz’s greatest joy was her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She never hesitated to tell a perfect stranger all about them, often pulling out her phone for a seemingly never-ending slideshow. She had a special gift for making each child feel seen, loved, and one of a kind. A day at Grandma’s meant coming home happily messy from the beach or an art project, usually with a new book or toy in hand.

Liz is lovingly survived by her children, Richard, Christian (Jennifer), Cheryl (Michael), Nelson (Lisa), and Adam (Olga), and by her 19 adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish their memories of Grandma; her brother, James Phelan; her sister, Kate Phelan; countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family; and a lifetime of dear friends.

Liz was predeceased by her loving husband, Nelson Rivera; her parents, Robert and Claire Phelan; and her brother, Bob Phelan.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday, October 12, 2026, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Mary Church (Precious Blood Parish), 70 Gulf St., Milford. Please meet directly at the church. Burial will be private and held at a later date.

Liz faced many health challenges in her later years with remarkable courage and grace, most notably multiple sclerosis. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the National MS Society at nationalmssociety.org.
