Orange Adopts Tax Deferments For Those Affected By COVID-19

The Orange Board of Selectmen has created a tax deferment program for residents to defer certain taxes and fees for up to three months.

The program applies to any taxes due from March 10 to July 1 for real property, personal property or motor vehicles, or municipal water, sewer and electric rates.

In order to be eligible, taxpayers must fill out a form attesting to having been “significantly impacted” by COVID-19.

Financial institutions and mortgage lenders are required under the program to continue remitting property taxes regardless of the borrower’s eligibility for deferment.

The program was created in response to an executive order from Gov. Ned Lamont that requires all municipalities to participate in a tax deferment program, a low interest rate loan program, or both.
