Donald Lewis, A Staple Of Orange Civic And Veteran Communities, Dead At 90

Donald Jackson Lewis Sr., age 90, of Orange passed away with his family at his side on January 6, 2022 at the West Haven Veterans Administration Hospital. For 67 years, he was the loving husband of Jean Marie Malaby Lewis. Donald was born in Philadelphia, PA, son of the late Albert and Hilda Lewis. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Debra Corey and her husband Craig of CO, Donald Lewis Jr. and his wife Bonnye and Karen McDermott and her husband Douglas all of Orange, his 7 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren, as well as his sister Beverly Barley of PA. He was predeceased by his siblings, Catherine Boothe, Virginia Sheppard and Albert Lewis. Donald was a proud USMC Veteran, serving in the Korean War, and he was a member of the American Legion, Post 127. In his professional career, Donald was an Insurance Agent for State Farm Insurance. He was very active in his community of Orange, serving in many capacities. He was Vice President of West Orange Civic Association, a past President of the Chamber of Commerce, past Chairman of Orange Economic Development Commission, past Chairman of the Board of Police Commissioner (25 years of service), past President of Rotary Club, where he was the recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow and a 50 year membership award. He was also a past Scoutmaster of Troop 7. Donald enjoyed his lifetime of public service to the Town of Orange.

Family and friends are invited to go directly to the Orange Congregational Church on Wednesday at 2pm for a Funeral Service. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Orange Center Cemetery. There will be no hours for visitations. West Haven Funeral Home at the Green has been entrusted with arrangements.
