Milford Makes Holding Restorative Retreat For Makers

Milford Makes has opened registration for Cultivate & Create: A Restorative Retreat for Makers, a new full-day creative retreat designed to give makers, artists, crafters and creative hobbyists the opportunity to step away from everyday demands and reconnect with the joy of making.

The retreat will take place on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Sticks & Stones Retreat Center in Newtown.
“Set against a peaceful natural backdrop, Cultivate & Create is an intentionally small retreat that blends creativity, wellness and community,” the nonprofit said in a release.

Throughout the day, participants will have a catered breakfast, buffet lunch and afternoon grazing table by Kitchen Melissa; a meditative creativity workshop led by Tammy Theis Satterlee; gentle chair yoga for makers and guided nature walks with Kelly Warters of A Breath of Calm Yoga; the herbal tea ritual with Liz Garypie; dedicated open studio time to work on personal creative projects; curated gift bags; and a community raffle featuring donations from local businesses.

The retreat welcomes individuals who enjoy knitting, crochet, quilting, sewing, scrapbooking, journaling, painting, mixed media art, writing and other creative pursuits. Attendees are encouraged to bring a personal creative project and spend the day making alongside fellow creatives in a welcoming, supportive environment.

Attendance is intentionally limited to approximately 25 participants to create a relaxed and intimate retreat experience.
The retreat also serves as a fundraiser for Milford Makes, which is working to establish a creative reuse center and makerspace in Milford. While retreat registration is designed to cover the cost of the experience itself, sponsorships and community support help advance Milford Makes’ long-term vision of creating a permanent space where residents can access affordable creative materials, participate in workshops, learn new skills, share resources and connect through creativity.

“Cultivate & Create was designed to give people permission to step away from their daily responsibilities and reconnect with their creativity,” said Liz Garypie, vice president of Milford Makes. “Whether someone is a lifelong maker or simply looking for space to create and recharge, we hope this retreat provides an opportunity for meaningful connection, inspiration and restoration. It’s a chance to spend an entire day creating in community while supporting Milford Makes’ vision for a future creative reuse center and makerspace.”

Registration is now open and will remain available through Sept. 24 or until the retreat reaches capacity. Because attendance is limited, early registration is encouraged.
