Milford, Orange Students Compete In Kungfu Championships

Students from Milford and Orange enrolled at the Wu Dang Kungfu Academy in Orange were awarded first, second and third prizes at the second New York International Wushu Championships, held March 17 at Queens College in Flushing, New York.

The winners included: Elsie Guo, Elaine Guo, Sophia Wong, Sage Wong and Dashan Xia from Peck Place School; Patrick Meng from the Amity Middle School in Orange; Eric Song, Bethany and Sean Qian from Amity High School; and Tori Matula from Joseph A. Foran High School in Milford

The students have been practicing Chinese Martial Arts, also known as Kungfu, under the instruction of Master Jack at Wu Dang Kungfu Academy for a few years.

Matula will also be competing with Angela He of Woodbridge at the eighth World Kungfu Championships held in Sichuan, China on behalf of the U.S. National Wushu Team in June. The international event, considered the “Kungfu Olympic Games,” is held every other year.
