Orange Resident Drafted By L.A. Dodgers

Austin L. French III, of Orange, just entered the big league. He was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers on the final day of the 2016 amateur draft.

French was at Brown University, where he made 12 appearances out of the bullpen as a freshman in 2013 according to his biography on the Brown University athletics website. He allowed nine earned runs and picked up 13 strikeouts in 12.2 innings.

French was one of 30 players selected by the Dodgers in the final round of the annual amateur draft. He was the 821st pick, made in the 27th round. He is a left handed pitcher (LHP). Half of the 30 draft picks were pitchers.

Prior to attending Brown, French was a student at Hamden Hall Country Day School. While there was a four-year letter winner in baseball, playing pitcher, first basemen and outfielder. He also lettered in football and basketball.

In 2011, he set a record at Hamden Hall for 18 strikeouts in a game to win the championship title. His four-year ERA was 1.55 and batted an average .417. He was named to various all-American and regional teams.
French is the son of Ann Marie and Austin French, of Orange.
